    I love the idea that the "ugly" phase is actually a phase of shock and perhaps a little cognitive dissonance at getting familiar with our hair's natural state and maybe not liking what we see. I agree that it's a matter of mindset. I grew up in a family that loved and encouraged natural hair so I was one of the lucky ones who loved my locs from jump even when I knew they looked "ugly" to others. Thank you for sharing your perspective. Your children are beautiful and great actors too 💜

      Lucky you! I remember when I first cut my relaxed hair and started growing my natural hair, my siblings and especially my mom, wanted me to go back to relaxer because they thought my hair looked dull. Flash forward, we all have natural hair now and 2 of us are locd!🤭
      Thanks! The kids said “Aww!” Thanks for the compliment!❤️

    Love this message. Self love in your natural form is so beautiful and you put it so eloquently however, I disagree that ugly phase is the shock of seeing your hair differently. Ugly phase is the excessive frizz, excessive shrinkage, some locs expanding a ton while others arent, part of the loc looking like the starter method, some locs unraveling a little, and they don't really look like locs yet. After the ugly phase, the locs are mature and just don't have those same qualities that existed in the ugly phase. Asthetically, mature locs look better. It's super helpful to just embrace the ugly phase because it's a part of the process and is not permanent.

      🤔 hmm I feel you on your point. A lot does go on in the initial phase. I have come to realize that beauty is actually a mental conditioning. A lot of what is called fashionable, decades ago would be considered ugly until repetition gets the mind to see them differently. That’s the crazy world we live in. Beauty is what we accept it to be and sometimes that comes by repetition or over exposure till the mind adapts and accepts. But I hear you, I hear you, that stage is challenging for sure. 💯!☺️

    Just to reiterate, FreeForm does not mean zero maintenance, and just incase anyone might fill "ugly locs" or "not maintaining your locs" is in reference to freeform locs, that is absolutely not the case. Just cos its not manipulated in any way, doesn't mean you don't wash it or protect it from accumulating dirt and debris, which is the kind of locs i am referring too in the context of the video; The uncared for Locs. Peace!😌

    I needed to hear this.... I've been loc'd a year and 1 mth and have yet to feel feminine. I'm searching for it but it has been a challenge 😢

      Oh I feel you there. I’m not even going to lie. Feeling feminine took a while. But once you are able to get past the acceptance phase, you will find a new definition of feminine within you. Please hang in there. It gets easier. Really appreciate you sharing this. Thank you.❤️

      Oh I know that feeling. It was a mental tug of war for me, between going back to my familiar comfort zone and this terrifying, yet exciting new adventure. But I can assure you, it gets worse😊🤭😄. But soon after… you start to see a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. When you see that light, don’t run to it, just walk. Trust the process!

    I'm almost sure you didn't mean to sound like you was coming for people with freeform locs. I was enjoying everything you was saying but when I heard you talk about ugly locs being not maintained. There are so many different kinds of locs some requiring a lot of maintenance others require none at all. I mean beauty is subjective so we all have a right to find something ugly. I still enjoyed the loc positivity in the video, I just think some freeform or semi freeform people would feel somewhat targeted.
    I'm not attacking or trying to put words in your mouth because you didn't specifically say freeform locs are ugly, but when you use the word maintained or neglected freeform is not generally maintained. Which if freeform is ugly to you that is also your opinion & right, it just caught me off guard because the video seemed like great loc positivity while excluding locs that don't fit some people's standards of what maintenance is or looks like is different for everyone.
    No hate coming from me towards your video or you views, I just heard the words ugly neglected & need to be maintained.

    • @TeezVlogTv
      @TeezVlogTv  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Absolutely not! Free form is not the same as Zero maintenance. I have seen quite a number of freeformers who actually almost got me considering going that route. The only reasons I won’t choose freeform is because I don’t want any of my locs to merge at all, not even by accident,and because I love the occasional scalpy look retwist brings. I appreciate your candid opinion, but perhaps the term ugly is given far to much credit than it deserves. If you notice, my main emphasis was locs that are obviously unkept and i would be a pretentious person if I say all state of locs are beautiful. I would be lying. Freeform is beautiful and actually captures the true essence of what locs is all about. The maintenance of non-freeformers is just esthetic preference. That doesn’t loc the hair at all. Freeform does that much quicker actually. Again, my opinion is that locs that are neglected don’t look good!😏

    • @RobinNatural1
      @RobinNatural1 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I agree. Neglected locs are ugly. Any hair that is neglected in my opinion is ugly. I know so many who have Freeform locs and they are beautiful. So, some maintenance is required. Low maintenance not no maintenance. Blessings.

      @@TeezVlogTvthanks for confirming that for me! Not that you had to. I didn't want it to come off as me putting words in your mouth I just wanted that distinction because free forms get so much hate sometimes even from within the loc community.
