First game played in Italy was in Torino, 1908. They have been in the IIHF for many years, have played in many World Championships, Spenglar Cups, Euro tournaments. Show some respect Moe

It kinda warms my heart to see Italy finally win and celebrate, after getting dunked on by pretty much most of the Hockey elite (Russians, Czechs, Sweden etc.). Glad they managed to stay in the Top Division, and hopefully they will train hard for the next championship in 2020! Good luck!

Unbeliveable where we are now compared to 3 years ago we lost in the last Match against Italy and now be stayed in Top Division as 6th in the Group ending up with beating Czechia and GB and nearly won in Ot against the US proud of this Team and proud of my Country🇦🇹

Its amazing. Italy has done everything possible to reduce the number of Italian Canadians on the team. Years ago 90 percent of the team was Italian Canadians. Now the team is 90 percent Italian born players, like Trivellato, Marco Rosa, Marco Insam, Andreas Bernard to name a few. All the Italian goal tenders were born raised and played their hockey in Italy and abroad. Marco Insam played his junior hockey for the Niagara Ice Dogs of the OHL. Pretty good for a kid from Italy. Many Canadian kids cannot crack the OHL. But every chance the announcers have to mention that Mgonigal was from Oakville Ontario they took the opportunity it is annoying. They never speak of the Italian born players. What team they play for in Italy or in Europe Very disrespectful
Im austrian and yep thats a real embarrassement.. we couldnt win those games where we were favoured a bit or at nearly the same level (like against norway) and thats why we DESERVE to go down.. if our leaugue would just realise that we have too many foreign players...the swiss only allowed 5 per team..thats why they could finally raise their international level to worldclass..

There are 10 players on this Italian team who listed dual citizenship. So congrats Italy and your German, Swiss, Austrian, and Canadian players too.
Man, actually the players from Sudtirol are Italian as that region is part of Italian territory. Then they took the dual citizenship later on, but trust me in the last two years we had a decreasing percentage of non-Italian players.

two really, really weak teams stayed in the elite division. in the case of ITA vs AUS it's not such a big difference but let's not fool ourselves, France (which i don't even root for) is much better than GB. big day for Italian and British hockey, kind of a bad day for top level hockey. the difference in quality between the top 6-8 teams and the rest is already getting bigger every year and these two games will just lead to more completely one-sided games between the favorites and the underdogs in the future. this year nobody except Slovakia and Latvia got even close to the eight teams which got into the play-off. i swear this division should be limited to 14 or even just 12 teams cuz it's getting more and more boring and one-sided every year
