@@doublearollers yea between the hawk and I virus that came thru I have one bird out 13 I bred my 1st round last season. I didnt even have enough stock to start my 2nd round after virus hit.

Hello looks lke your breeding open loft with multiple strains or families all having access to each others cocks and hens .if this is the case how can you hope to keep any accurate breeding results and records .you mention a cock off goerge that n your pwn words is not so good .are you happy to have him choosing to mate any hen that is willing to be mated.i dont see any drinkers on upur nest boxes so i assume you are breeding open loft ( read as pigeon orgy).this method can be ok if you have close nit proven family but just letting any cock tred any henof different strain or family how will you ever know what is producing any good youngsters if your lucky enough to get any .perhaps i have misunderstood your video but i dont hink i have .if you are serious about trying to keep and fly somedecent stuff i urge you to at least t know 100% who the parents are if ypu are lucky enough to produce any outstanding youngsters.otherwise down the line think you will struggle with consistantly reproducing good stuff .if i seem a bit blunt please dont be offended .i see other novices posting on your site and they may think your methods are good and copy same methods .all good breeders of good quality livestock make sure they know the parents ofthe youngsters and if i am correct in my assumtion you cant know which cocks are the sire to your youngsters .only my opinion.good luck and reply if you like.
Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your advice and you’re right in what you say. I have 2 families, 1 is the Mason family and the other is from a friend of mine named David Challoner. There will of course be a possibility of a mix up but I’m hoping it is minimal. I’m obviously still new to the roller game and don’t have the correct set up to breed individually but I have still managed to breed some good young birds. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to select a lot of top quality birds for breeding and you could almost say that I’m blind breeding from some pairs at the moment but I’m hoping the family I am working with will be much closer knit in the near future. I do lock the pairs on the first round until they have laid the second egg and then it is an open loft, which understandably can cause confusion when confirming the linage but I’m hoping that in the coming years, my set up allows me to breed in individual boxes.
Hello I hear what you are saying it is difficult at first to get a good solid start n rollers .with regards to good quality potential stock birds a novice has to get what he can and try them .if I was starting again I would only get stock from a winning family proven over many years as having the qualitys I wanted and that had been bred in closednest box loft .I would rather have 3 pair of this type than a lot of pairs that you don't really know the history of.slower is sometimes faster in the roller hobby.i know some lads have some success with mixed up crossbred mongrel type birds but if look around a lot come into the hobby do a short time don't get a good result from them and drop out of the hobby again.i f your 2 families do indeed give you some top draw stuff later on down the line you could try a little controlled experimental cross if it works that's good if it doesn't easy to eliminate the resulting young .first thing is try and breed some good young that are still good at 2 years old .repeat mate their parents and breed some more have a 5 year plan to have a good old bird team don't try to run before you can walk and you should do well.good luck and keep looking up
