- #PandaStory: I lost count on how many "field trips" Mei Xiang had taken her cub on throughout the night. But during this one, after they had been absent from the den for 2 minutes, the keeper switched the cam to Room 3, the large room adjacent to the den. There sat Mei Xiang holding her cubbie ~ and for the 1st time (except for exam photos and videos) we see cubbie in color! His ears and his eyes are open now ... what an experience for our 8 week old cubbie! Remember, Mei Xiang has reared 3 cubs successfully before this in this same environment ... trust her maternal instincts, and trust the Smithsonian National Zoo.

This is the best thing in 2020. Little guy is SO sweet, represents hope, new life and the beauty of love & family to me.
It is definitely my escape from all thats wrong in our world right now. It is the only thing that brings a smile to my face along with lots of chuckles.

You are so right. If it weren’t for the pandemic, it would be hard for me to keep up with Cubbie’s progress from day to day - a silver lining to the 2020 cloud. Also, watching Cubbie grow does not make me feel so bad about the weight I have put on - of course, though, he is SUPPOSED to be roly-poly!
Little Panda 🐼 is such a cutie pie now. He was born 8-21-20, with a strong pair of lungs I remember that day because that’s my birthday 🎂 too. Now the FUN begins with the little fellow. 💕

Mei’s little chubby boy is getting more difficult for Mei to carry him around! I love her taking him out to the bigger area. I thought for sure she was going to put him up on the rocks, whew she didn’t. He definitely doesn’t want Mommy to wander to far from him. True love between Mommy Mei and her baby son 🐼🐼💕

@@theresadavis7604 We know how much the cubbies need their Mom's warmth as they grow...and her nourishment, etc, etc. He seems spoiled but I see it as he is all dependent on Mom for everything. And, in the wild, one can see how difficult this would be for Mom pandas even thinking about her gathering food/water for herself and making sure cubby is secure/warm, etc. Anyway, I find this experience of watching/learning about their upbringing fascinating/meaningful.
Items that weigh as much as Junior:
1. Mr Coffee 12 cup coffee maker
2. A 2 liter bottle of soda
3. Four footballs
4. Two racks of baby back ribs
5. Five bunches of bananas
6. Twenty sticks of butter
7. Five pound bag of sugar
8. War and Peace

Considering Junior's feisty attitude, and Mei's gentleness with him, "War and Peace" is a good description. 😉
If history repeats itself, Mei may put our little cutie in one of the "holes" in the rock formation - using it as a playpen. Exciting times ahead!

Wow. I love how the Mom was going to leave him but just stood there for a second to think about it , saw her baby boy was alone and uncomfortable and decided to take her cub with her around the Pen so he won'tbe alone and she could make sure her was safe. Pandas are just so perfect 💘🖤🖤🖤🐼🐼🐼💘
I am very excited to see the baby going out for the first time. Mei checked the safety, such a responsible mother took her naughty son out to see the world!❤️🐼💖

Cubbie already knew that the world was his oyster but now he gets to find out that the oyster is HUGE! Fun adventures ahead with many tumbles too. Love and hugs to the sweet, sweet pair, plus Tian Tian.

When he gets a little bigger, Mei will start doing the cubby shuffle, where she puts and down and pushes him across the floor. It's so cute to watch.

Oh how time flies! Already 8 weeks old. Beautiful cubbie. Mei is a great mom. Glad to see mom taking him out to explore. Soon he will be pouncing around having fun with mom. Good times are a coming 🐼 🌼💙🌼🐼 ❤💙❤
I am so engrossed in watching mom and cub each day. I can’t wait until to see what each new day brings. For the past few weeks, I have watched and amazed at mom. She is so good in taking care of her cub. It will be exciting to see when baby gets bigger and starts to explore what new things he will do. So very exciting in all this craziness!

This place is the best part of my day... it gives me such pleasure to see Mei Xiang and Cubbie .. she’s such a good Mama ... I cannot imagine anyone saying anything negative... the bears are such a joy...
What I truly adore is her cuddling her baby. I have 2 Chiweenies a brother and a sister I helped raise since they were 12 hours old. They love to snuggle underneath me and love to be rocked and cuddled just like the panda cub. Its fantastic that love is a universal language

I watched this amazing mama bear and her precious baby all the way through. It brought so much joy to my life. I found them so much like a human mother and her child. I will never forget this amazing journey with them.
Awww... she went to him every time he whimpered. She seems to hold him a lot more than I've seen the mommas do in the many other vids I've watched of pandas and their cubs 😍

As Mei started to leave baby cub was like can I come with...of course mama picked him up right away and out they go. Baby is growing too fast😊
She sure is a very attentive mommy. Even when she tried to walk off, if she heard the slightest sound, she was right back there with her little one.

I have screen shots of Bao & Mei in the den doing headstands - in date , one day apart - so they were basically the sane age as well LOL
@@sunlover2745 Isn't that interesting that Mei Ziang has the timing on schedule. I'm interpreting what I see as her close observation of each cub's development. I just love how she gets down to watch the movement of each cub...almost like an athletic coach.
@@barbaramcintosh8080 Absolutely, She's the Very BEST ! She has all the patience, yet she can get that firm paw going when need be. It's all about guidance and rearing , and to me, quite frankly she's the best teacher there is in the Giant Panda world!

The zoo made video of them measuring baby today but it is with music. I would like to be able to hear cubbie barking. They said he yelled a lot during being measured. Can you possibly get that doxie. I really appreciae these wonderful videos on this channel.
