VR indeed was made for sim racers. anybody who writes these garbage "VR is dead" articles never got behind the wheel of a car in VR before. Long live VR!
Some people have mentioned frame rate issues. I'm looking into it. Sorry about that :(
Jimmer, I don't want to sound cross, but it was really tough to watch this one. Eyes are still a little wonky when typing this out. Great content as always looking forward to the next one!!
+Jimmy Broadbent
Well sir, kind is on your end :D (not blaming you). The excessive shaking probably messed up with the video processor (don´t know what software you are using) when it tried to interpolate the video frames, causing the jerkiness effect and not making the video play smooth (even if it have high frame rates).
Just for comparison, It´s similar when you play a game at high frame rate (kinda like 140) but the game still feels jerky (lot´s of unity games suffers from that), because even if you have a lot of frame-rate, the frame-TIME (the time in with every frame is displayed on the screen) is all over the place, some frames gets 0,9ms of exhibition time, while others 14ms, others 30ms and so on. This oscillation in frame-times are what causes the "apparent" low frame rate even on a high frame rate scenario. I remember that when I used to play WoW, on a big raid, I used to get 50 fps but what I saw on the screen was kinda like a powerpoint presentation..... :S (Since the game was having trouble in giving me stable frame-times in heavy loaded situations).
The opposite also can be done, check this anime video, in with the original is 24 fps or 30fps (not sure), but here it was emulated at 60fps - the video processor creates intermediary frames based on the previous and the next frame and fills the gap in order to reach 60fps with stable frame-time. The result is best than the original, in terms of animation and fluidity of the video.

Most likely a video renderer issue, or an issue with the gameplay capture
What are you doing with your feet when you kick brake and the still accelerate at the same time how do you do it well
Your nose wouldn't fog up a visor
Hello, first time watcher here. what a surreal experience i've just had listing to your voice... it was like i was suddenly a small child again on a cold wintery Sunday in the early 80's, watching a f1 race with the enthusiastic commentator (the great Murray Walker) who created such an air of infectious excitement, the fire is blazing next to me and I'm eating sandwiches and drinking cocoa. Good times indeed, thanks for the walk down memory lane... Back to the present day thought, excellent video! you have a new sub. Keep up the Great work :D
This game has such great moments and great video btv keep up the good work
When I first bought PC2 at release I thought I'd wasted my money. Started playing it again about a month ago and was having a blast, its only gotten better with the most recent patch too. You should give it a go more often Jimmer.
Solid Shepard and 1 year later it’s my favourite console racing game on Xbox
Wtf is a jimmer
Иван Грозный his fanbase calls him Jimmer
@@yammmit oh ok. Cute I guess
Иван Грозный indeed
You remind me a lot of Murray Walker with your commentaries, and I'm sure you'll reckon that as a great thing
im sure thats offensive lol, i would hate to be compared to another singer/songwriter or another boxer. like... cant i be my own unique style?
@@badassmastermax cant tell if your being serious, either way nice profile pic.
Thanks, nah just tugging chains
RIP
well he grew up in that era so he should
Jimmy, I love your videos. You always give Project Cars some jabs but I always see you having fun with it!! Congrats on 100k
Knee driving - like my old man used to do when he lit up a cigarette while driving
Really enjoying the content like this youve been putting out recently, just awesome commentary. Really looking forward to more and more iracing too!
after the latest update the handling of many of the cars have improved greatly, especially on the default setups.
gotta go check the jaguar xjr-9 then, that car was terrible to drive.
Corvonix plays Agreed. My absolute favorite car in PC2, and the aero was abysmal. Especially in Le Mans trim.
I went to drive it first, turned about 5º on the wheel, the car turned 180º on the track
Neotronis its nice cause the cars felt like they were on glass or something before
Corvonix plays You have to mind the groundeffects on the XJR-9 as well as Group C in general. It's unstable at low speed (which is realistic,) but it drives very nicely once it's up to speed.
Great Video Jimmy, as always! keep it up!
"when this game works, it puts a smile on my face. I wish it always worked like this!"
Perfect assessment of a game with unlimited potential and possibilities.
Love all the Nissans in PC 2. This thing is an absolute joy with a good ffb setup.
I totally agree with you. Nissan GTR, the road version, in Nurburgring is an absolute orgasm for me. Not the fastest, but huge amount of fun.
Amazing. That looked like a right load of fun.
How you talk so much and keep it on the road is beyond me - I crash if I say thank you in a race - You might like group 5 a lot too - the Capri is very satisfying around Donnington / Oulton Park / Brands Hatch type tracks. Top stuff :)
You had done something to turn down the shakiness but it looks like it’s back. Loved this, I think it’s time for another drift vid!
Great stuff Jimmy, enjoyed that.
Jimmy coming around on PC2? Surely a new dawn!
OMG I'm gonna complete my VR setup tomorrow and this is making me cry it's shaping up to be invigorating
How have your VR exploits gone
PC2 is absolutely the best Sim to date in my opinion.
I recommend turning off the Pit Subtitles and the Pre Race Light tree. It distracts from the VR experience.
I also added 2 transducers today and my God I've been missing a whole new spectrum of sim racing. One under my seat. One direct mounted to my pedals. I feel like Im driving better because I feel the road and car now.
I completely agree! A lot of people complain about certain tiny nit picks in this game, but really at the bottom of it all the abundance of quality and quantity of content available here is unbeatable.
What a blast race!!!!!
You should become a race commentator! Great video, what an enthusiasm.
That game looks amazing imo!
My fave class, the Jag is a beast in PC2
Tristan McCarthy Dat NA V12
I don’t care if the car is Jag or Merc or Porsche, they are f*ckin’ Group C
Reinhard Ecker True to real life as well. Almost nothing was able to even keep up with it, and the same thing happened later with the Toyota Eagle MkIII. In fact, that was a big factor in the downfall of IMSA's GTP series. The other manufacturers were tired of not standing a chance against the Japanese cars, and they were already more focused on other series like NASCAR which was really gaining popularity at the time, so there were a lot of constructors dropping out. Plus, the Japanese economy was in a recession at around the same time which meant the Japanese makers were dropping out as well for different reasons. What fascinates me about it is that Group C - which featured a lot of the same cars and teams - also died at around the same time yet for completely different reasons.
@john jones That's pretty cool. Sadly, it was one of those "nothing lasts forever" situations with Group C and GTP although I'm sure it was a relief for all the other teams when Porsche's dominance in the 80s finally ended.
r89c's were actually really fast in the 89 Le mans, so if they hadn't mechanical issues, I bet that one of the three would had the podium position.
Nice one Jimmy!
This fella is living his dream !
Can't wait for next gen consoles that'll be able to fully support vr in games
I play this game with an old ps3 controller and find it really hard, wish I had some sort of wheel set up. Top work Jimma!
An XB1 pad would work better... or if you need a PlayStation pad, a PS4 pad would be a massive improvement over the PS3 pad.
Aiming a small fan directly at your face while you are in VR prevents the lenses from fogging up. I have one permanently mounted to my cockpit and it works incredibly well.
i was like #500 yay! cool vid jimmer, shoulda done it in the jag tho.....
A Historic Layout will come in the June Le Mans DLC-probably either the 1989 layout or the 1971 layout or the 1955 layout.
AOR SmokingPuppy841 I hope it’s one from the 70s or 80s but I doubt it will be. It’ll be something from the 50s that feels and looks like a boring country road that only has 19 pit boxes....just like they did with the Historic Spa.
4 significant patches now since release and this game is maturing into something great.
still not the best physics wise tho but have to agree with you, coming along nicely
Daisudori how are the physics ok wasn’t this made my racing drivers and the majority of sim racers never driven a race car and don’t know how it feels lol
Daisudori it's very subjective when it comes to physics and force feedback models. I'd put it on a par with the other leading sims. It's different but no less accurate than any others in my view. The fact that the same car on the same track has never felt the same across any two sims ever made shows us that none of them are really very accurate ultimately. They get better with each new one though. I wonder what we can expect in 10 years? Should be good.
I love this game, recently got a g920 and it’s one of my favorites to play with a wheel
Not much of game experience review but i do appreciate the enthusiasm!
Jimmy, get yourself a fan and the sweaty head VR experience will go away.
I don’t understand why SMS won’t allow the player to pick specific Ai cars for the quick races. Two games now and they still won’t allow it even though people have begged for it.
Tired of my races having half the grid be one make of car when there’s 15+ makes in that class to choose from.
Yeah, and the GTE class the AI never choose the Ferrari.. It's only there when I'm in it...
Dylan Schnoebelen I agree. The custom grid tool is a pain in the ass and shouldn’t even be necessary...seriously, why isn’t there a custom grid option built in?
I’ve posted on the forums and everyone agrees it’s a must have feature. Ive asked them during their live streams before the game launched if it would finally have a custom grid feature like AC and the question got ducked every time.
Michael Decker whoooosh
OhItsThat Yes, we need custom grid and custom championship offline too.
Yeah agree, custom grid options were available in PC games back in the mid 90's. Grand Prix and NASCAR Racing series come to mind.
Man that Nissan was a beast.
"Nope thats a VEC line through there, dont do that" hahaha
Should probably look into if there are any ways of stabilizing the camera when you're in the VR-helmet. It's very shaky at times and hard to stay focused. I love this game in VR though, by far the best experience so far for me. Love your videos, mate. :)
2:27 I had a shit in the middle of the Dunlop bridge at 03:30 of the Sunday of the 1989 race.
Kick ass show...
great video
just brought the game because of this video
Lol, someone seems to be enjoying themselves
Bit of a tip for you, Jimmy, regarding the fogging inside the headset.
Before you put it on, give your lenses a quick blast with a hair dryer set on warm to heat them up a bit. Just do it enough so that they don't feel cold and slightly warm to touch (don't over do it, just use common sense there) and your lenses should no longer collect condensation. Don't wipe your lenses with your gloves either. That's likely to give them scratches.
How can you talk and drive so well? When I play driving games I melt my brain just trying to concentrate on driving and I still suck XD
Why has'nt Nascar or Formula 1 offered this guy a contract yet.
Really enjoyed driving the Nissan R89C in career, car sound like a racebike or something :P
However came up short on the championship because the other Nissan GTP ZX is pretty much impossible to beat on some tracks
i cant watch this, im to jelly :))
murray walker would have been proud of you
P10, just behind ALL OF THE 962s xD
(and an XJR and a ZX-Turbo)
Theres a Le Man Pack coming out after the Porsche Pack so i wouldn't be surprised if the old version of the track comes with that. But PC2 is still my top Sim cause i find it easy to setup and jump into a race and the Live Track 3.0 System and Weather is the closest your gonna get to Real Life at the moment. AI still needs a tweak here and there but its been massively improved from Launch and thats what makes PC2 for me is you dont have to play online to enjoy it.
Hey Jimmy... FYI, there is a product I use ( I'm currently at work so I'll have to wait until I get home to give you the exact name and brand) for my Oculus Rift that comes in a spray that almost completely eliminates the lenses fogging up. I bought it at a cell phone store. It works very very well. Both to clean the lenses and greatly reducing ( if not completely eliminating) foggy lenses. I'll check back in once I get home.
Hey Jimmy! The stuff I use is called WHOOSH! It comes in a spray bottle that includes a very high quality cloth for application. I use it by spraying it (a decent amount) on the cloth and the n wiping the screen. I let a small amount of the spray to air dry on the lenses (that really helps with the products anti-fog qualities). Anyway you should look it up. It is mainly advertised to help clean cell and tablet screens and to help eliminate finger prints from forming. It is in it's anti-fingerprint formula that also helps it as an anti-fogging agent. The girl mentioned that when I was picking up a new cell phone and the first thing I thought of was my Oculus Rift. I had constant issues with the lenses fogging up. Now with this stuff it really helps. Anyway, you should give it a try! Good Luck!
I setup a fan blowing on me with the headset on. Helps fight against fogging.
thanks for doing what you like as your "job". it's very inspiring!
maybe TLDR but ... well I feel like sharing
my girlfriend returned to school 3 years ago at 28 years old with a 1 year old son and a house to pay... because she was very sad with her life and her job... it has been very tough for both of us with financial stress, after a couple of I left my job to get a "better" one in terms of salary and schedule... and you know, because life... a year after changing job from a job I would have never loose, they kinda fired me! yep, no salary left... At that point I felt like pure shhit... I fought to find a job with all the stress in the world I manage to get one after 8 weeks...
this new job is pretty cool, my girl friend will finish school in a couple of weeks, and she will more than likely be working at her dream job as a quality control in a microbrewery (dieu du ciel). I'm very proud of her!!
I started a couple months ago to be very interested in racing and I think it would be very cool to do something with my life related to that... I think I will start building sim racing rigs, for me and if some other people are interested, I could start something...
Beambox best luck with that and glad things are going your way
Georgexx 13 thanks!!!!
Wish you the best of luck brother, keep us informed about it!
Renzo Sim Racing thanks!! I’ll probably start with something small/light for shipping, affordable, modular, easy to assemble... I look at many rig review to try to improve on what people likes... I would invest any profits in making other models. The real goal is just to try to do something that I like and that I could be proud of! Like Jimmer!
I’m a mechanical engineer so this is not something new for me to design things... my best friend is an aerospace welder so I think we could do a good job! The hardest part would be eventually our own seats... I studied in composite also... ;)
Thanks for the interest guys! It’s very appreciated!
I think Jimmer attracts great people on his channel! Happy to be part of it in a way!!
YOU YOU AREEEEE FUNNNN I LIKE YOU
About mixing LM and normal versions of the Group C there, keep in mind that the modern slowed down track variant isn't anywhere near as clear a fit for the LM variants as the old layout was, even with more modern cars like the LMP900 stuff you might find that minimum drag isn't the quickest way around. =)
Hey Jimmy great vids! Just curious is there much of a difference quality wise between what you are seeing in your VR headset and the video feed we see? Still on the fence about picking up a Rift... cheers!
Jason Presents hey dude, something not seen in videos, is since VR headset have 2 separate screens inside , they do an incredible job projecting a 3d image to both of your eyes. Worth every penny.
2:16 "...so the car understeers quite a lot" so it's like the Beta version of the Nismo GTR LMP1?
proto-longboi
Dayum son xD
The wheel covers on the jag were called piss flaps
amazing!! what vr system are you using?
use a bit of body shampoo and rub in the inside of the vr. dry it out with a clean tovel. we do this in icehockey to prevent fogging in. (i hope you understand my bad english :D)
I grabbed the pcars2 demo on steam,
My poor old pc can't cope with it :(
If all this CRAZY SHAKING is part of VR Experience then I am glad I stayed away from it. How can one not throw up after watching this is just crazy.
The Jaguar XJR-9 drives really well too. I think this class is probably one of the best in the game. Too bad the AI, even after patch 4.0, is a bit nervous with these cars and often tap the brake seemingly for no reason.. which causes a chain reaction of tapping the brake. Highly annoying. Other than that, these are a blast to drive. Wish more people used these online.
I'm watching this becouse the stream (:
This shows that PC2 at its BEST is the number one sim right now for me. It has a lot of crappy content, some half baked cars, and some irritating bugs but its sweet spots are oh so sweeeet.
@Jimmi Broadbent, Historic LeMans will come one day, it is a planned DLC track
Heyhow much cost ut VR setup? Great vid :D
GOD DAMMIT IM JEALOUS
Pcars2 is very satisfying when you power out of corners with abit of slid its the best sim out there for that and its some thing that assetto corsa badly needs.
[TN] Strikeman Your opinion.
It sure is...
"The Free D" ;)
iRacing has got even better mirrors in VR, the angles are more limited in PC2 when moving your head around.
Jimmeeeer!! I need to train more racing! Which AI settings (power and aggression) do you use for ac videos like the one on road america?
(Sorry for the totally off-topic question, but i'm wondering that since so much time...)
5:44 The RARE Porsche 962.
The R89C and the R92CP were 2 of the best looking cars in Gran Turismo 4, yet i've never driven them. Shame on me
2:40 "i think they're probably the most realistic mirrors that are around" - Jimmer please try LFS in VR, demo is free... would love to know what your impression is
YEW JIMBO
Moar!!!
Le Mans 1999? didn't you meant Le Mans 1989? also, the Sauber with the double wing is just the C9 in high downforce config :) I love the R89C. it's a real beast. too bad it didn't go well :/ btw, I'm also born in 1991 lol
If it helps small amount of shaving foam to clean you vr will slow even stop it steaming up 👍
Try the Sauber. That thing has a hudge sound 👍👍👍🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭
you need to get a fan lol, help when doing vr
Pc2 is a great sim.. hopefuly ac2 will have a better tire model and hopefuly ac2 will happen hehe
Jaka Kosmac Heh yes
Hi Jimmy,
How have you configured your clutch?
I feel it is like a button. Downshifting in a Formula Rookie is very tricky as it feels like moving the clutch pedal 1mm makes the difference between fully engaged and not applied at all. Makes Revmatching hard...
I'm using a Logitech G25, H-Shifter.
Any tips or hints?
frame rate got murdered when the sun started to set
The trailbraking is real
group C is best C
Question: If you had the budget for only one what would you get? Good VR set or good Wheel setup?
Jimmy, I have a request, could you do. Some track guides on pcars 2?
Jimmy what steering wheel are you using and in your opinion, what's the best wheel to go for?
wow VR shake is hard to watch
Mcgiever100 was just thinking the exact same thing... Although I think it must be amazing to play racing games in VR I don't think I'll be able to cope with al that shaking...
This was unwatchable, unfortunately
I keep hearing people complain about this, I've never even noticed it. Doesn't seem to bother me at all. I drive in VR as well with a Vive and it's not an issue there either. I would imagine it's less of an issue if you're driving instead of just watching a video.
It's hard to watch on a normal screen. You do adjust to it. Having used VR though it's much, much easier to adjust when you're actually doing it. About 5 minutes to adjust, another 5 to get over the motion sickness. Once you've done it a few times it's very natural. Only major gripe with them is the low-res picture you get. It will get better over time though.
This is not representative of VR racing when setup properly. In VR you should have the camera locked to the horizon, not the vehicle.
Thought clutch doesn't working is pcars?
2:18 Actually if this was AC or RF2 then you'd be right but everything starts up to temp in PC2 no need to baby it.
Can you do a group c race at Daytona Road course. My home track! Miss those day. Also do a HRS classic 24hr check it out they run full out!
Thanks Jimmy
Greg Stone, Daytona USA
This game looks ridiculous. Is this the best racing sim right now?
Oi Jimmer !
How unforgiving are the project 2 game physics! Ive had the game 2 days and im struggling to stay on track
Jimmy you are having some serious skill. Have you ever tried it in real life?!!!!!
Hey jimmy. What ffb mode are you using?
