When I first heard this song, it sounded like it was a poem to a crush. His way of confessing his true feelings to this person the song was about. And now this version...
It feels like he's speaking to someone he has been with for a very long time. This time he is reassuring them with his long kept promises. This is song is very special. My mom passed away this November and we where driving to her grave {my dad and I} this version came up, I have never heard this melody before, never even paid attention to it , it was just the funny version to me. The lyrics felt intense and I told my father , that’s Mommy talking to you. I will always remember her love to him and I hope to reciprocate it to my wife forever. Thank you!

This is the song that my dad sang to my mom for their 30th anniversary. I was wondering why dad chose this song so I asked my uncle and he said my dad proposed to my mom when he was 22 and she was 21, by singing this song to her in front of their entire college class. My dad’s best friend had a video and showed it to me. I’ve never seen my dad more nervous than that day but as soon as he started singing it all went away.
