Using dish soaps to wash fruits doesn’t sound right.... especially for berries. Never heard of it when i studied and got my food management certificate...
she said she uses a plant based soap
Imagine this, you dont learn everything at college.
Plant based or not Why does she add soap? Seems weird to me, isn’t the vinegar cleansing the fruit? Also some people say to use vinegar & baking soda that is natural.
All you need to clean berries are vinegar and baking soda
What vinegar do u use please 😊
You can also use mason jars that you can vacuum seal with a vacuum sealer and they’ll last even longer. You can get the Food Saver vacuum sealer and order the accessary for sealing the lids and at least double the time berries remain fresh.
Thank you for the tip!
Great video! I soak my fruits and vegetables in vinegar, but I am a little Leary on putting dawn on my food. Which companies dish soap are you using?
Yahni Bryant any foamy soap will work. It's just a drop or two to remove any wax or spray residue
Vinegar and baking soda will do that just fine
I usually put them in a bow or strainer to clean. l then use the salad spinner to speed up the drying. I've seen some people say not to close the container back tight. But since the original container usually has holes anyway, I don't see the point
Dish soap???? Lovely flavouring that is
It rinses right off, just like it does from your dishes.
@@MOMables fruit has crevices that makes it not come out as easily
What dish soap are you using? Are you not concerned about using dish soap on your food?
I am not. I use one or two drops for a gallon or more of water. It rinses out and I use a plant based soap.
*baking soda & vinegar works best for me! You will definitely see the difference
Thank you for sharing! 😊
You mentioned a thin flat container as an option... what kind do you use? Have a brand new fridge being delivered in a week and I'm anxious to organize it better and keep my produce lasting longer! Berries are our biggest struggle, I end up freezing so many of them for smoothies because they start to turn.
This is what I use to store my berries - I forgot to bring it to video day! bit.ly/berrycontainer

Do you use their line for all of your produce to keep it separated in the crisper? Or just certain foods?
Just certain foods.
Dish Soap? Would you actually eat dish soap? I don't think so. So, why put it in your food? Cheers
Do you put forks in your mouth? Do you drink out of glasses? Does that mean that you eat/drink dish soap? Do you not rinse anything?
Eat it, no. Use it for rinsing, the same way i do for dishes I eat off of? Yep!
Use baking soda, vinegar, water to kill bugs and remove any pesticides residue.
Glad that works for you!
How long does it take for them to dry
What is the concentration of vinegar that you use?
Standard white vinegar.
can u use apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar?
Tiffany cardenas I am sure you could.
Do frozen berries need to be washed before eating?
Wei4Green no. Those have been washed before freezing and storing. Enjoy!
I would definitely give them a 2nd rinse!!
You can 😊
What about washing frozen berries? Do u wash them frozen or thaw them out 1st, wash them & then re-freeZe them? Thanks
Frozen berries have been pre-washed before packaging. Washing is not necessary before eating them.
What kind of dish soap do you use?
Thank you!
Thanks for the tip! I will try it out!
Great ideas! How much vinegar, Laura? (I know - I'm such a novice!!!)
Amy, it depends on the size of your bowl. 1/2 a cup? I just pour a nice long splash.
Love the lord your God with all your heart soul mind and strength and love your neighbors as yourself
You're awesome! Thanks
Excellent
This was aa very nebulous set of instructions. How much water? How much vinegar? ( I mean, you could have left ideas for proportions anyway)
If you click on the link below the video you'll find more details. Washing berries isn't a science like baking. The spinner holds about a gallon? A cup of vinegar, and a few drops of dish soap.
Ellen Hatch I've read its 3 parts water and 1 vinegar.
use apple cider vinegar
that will work too
Thank you. 😇🙏🥰🌻🦋🌸
Why is it when I use this method my berries will mold a day after, where as when I do nothing, let them just sit and wash them as I go they seem to last a lot longer ? Why is it that berries last longer at supermarkets but when we bring them home they right away???
If they mold quick is because they soaked in water too long and they did not fully air dry. Supermarkets are temperature controlled environments where our homes are not. Their shelf life at a supermarket is 48h max.
How is this the first video that pops when I search this, no one should be using soap to wash berries smh
you don't use soap to wash your hands and then rinse it? wash your dishes? two to three drops of soap in a gallon of water isn't going to hurt you or your fruit. it rinses out. Plus, soap is the only product proven to remove waxy coatings and it's slipperyness washes off bacteria (just like washing hands). Of course, you can use whatever method you like... even purchase those fruit washing liquids which are dilluted natural versions of the soap i'm using, usually made with coconut-derived sulfactants .
Instead of dish soap and vinegar, use baking soda and vinegar which will remove pesticides
Thanks for sharing!
Sorry, but washing with soap is not recommended-rising isn't enough as some soap can sock into the fruit/veggie.... ;(
two drops of natural soap don't hurt anyone. gets rinsed off. we have more "grime" on our hands.
Dish soap 🙈 can't believe this
Now you know :)
Lol @0:37 your a cheater you have store bought pre sliced pineapple. Ha ha I use canned pineapple but if I'm making fruit salad I use a pinapple ring cutter from fresh pinapple.
What I thought you we’re supposed to wash them when you were going to eat them 🤯
Yep! Washing blueberries takes off the natural 'bloom' that protects them so wash when you're going to eat. I don't know that strawberries have bloom, but berries don't like water, and even if you 'dry' them, they aren't dry (are you completely dry when you towel off from a shower? No. Too bad many people will lose more berries than they need to.
@@rmcmmc7 yah I'm a recent berry addict and when washing i have to be careful as too much water on um ruins THEM! I like to wash before eating jus seems more natural.. lol
Or you can eat them in two days...I meant you bring the food home to eat it.
okay listen up homie some people can’t fucking eat a hundred berries in 2 days?! and then keep buying them over and over. so why don’t you fucking piss off you little negative bitch
tea that was a bad decision. If u talk down too him and especially with such aggressive tone then your no better him. Be kinda, keep your head up, stay positive, have a great day :)
@@michaellopez3710 Sorry but I have to agree with Tea, here. The abrasive tone was needed. If Walhan08 had his way, diabetes would spread like the plague.
No way you add dish soap to wash your berries…omg
Dish soap is totally safe is you wash it properly.
