    Great memories of a time when air travel was "elegant". Now, air travel is akin to a bus ride in the sky.

      @jameswoods7276 Před 2 lety +2

      Well when the company making the plane is called AIRBUS what did people expect would happen? 🤣
      But yeah the days of elegant or even remotely comfortable air travel are truly gone. Unless you can afford first or business class.

      It was elegant - but you paid. Unless you were very well off, flying wasn't an option, except as a literal once-in-a-lifetime experience. I remember seeing ads in 1970 for BOAC (as they then were) offering Sydney-London economy return for AUD $700 in 1970 - the equivalent of $8,552.17 today. You could do it for $2000 or less now.

      @@Elitist20 Hence my comment of "elegant". You get what you in pay for.

    N709PA, the 707 in this film, was struck by lightning which ignited fuel vapors and caused an explosion and full separation of a wing. The plane crashed near Baltimore. Very sad indeed.

      Right near the crash site of an Eastern DC-4 in the late 40's.

      I am seeing N710PA at 8:54 for Paris anyway I have not finished watching the film. I remember reading about the Elkton Maryland crash to think it would take TWA Flight 800 before fuel inerting systems were seriously considered as mandatory equipment on civil aircraft. Not too sure any FAA rule mandates it to this day. Some general aviation PJs have it. I remember reading my Falcon brochure sent to me that said the jet had it. Will have to look it up in my records.

    Fascinating how a 707 morphed into a DC-8.

    I remember as a kid flying - we'd get dressed properly, they gave out playing cards, kids were given "wings" after we landed, we were served hot meals, stewardesses (oops...FLIGHT ATTENDANTS) were pleasant and glad to see you, and just an exciting time at the airport. Now.......its just not pleasant.
