Frankly I don't blame Sam's mom for her thought process. Considering the history between her and Bethany, it's only natural. The man they had both loved had chosen her, not Bethany. And any mother would want to do anything to protect their child even from their own past when they had nothing to do with what happened all those years ago. And it's common we hear stories of people seeking revenge, even after decades go by.
Thankfully for her sake, everyone understood what she was doing was not out malice, but genuine fear.

In real life some married couple's age are gap in between while others are the same age or a little bit older/younger than the other but they still do love each other, Sam's mother would accept her son wanting to marry Bethany who is 30 years older than him. And yet she still believes that Bethany wanted revenge against her for taking Sam's father away from her when they were young (before Sam was born) but in truth the only person who wanted to seek revenge is Sam's mother herself who feared of losing her son. If Sam's mother really worried then she really should have talk to her son in the first place and then she would know that he will still be there for her as family grows.

Older men do tend to be more responsible, mature, financially stable, & sure of themselves. All of that is good; however, there are some drawbacks to marrying an older man as well. They can still be jealous & don't want other men to look at you or speak to you for a long period of time; that doesn't always fade away with age. They also won't always want to take you out on dates due to their fatigue & or poor health. One of the biggest reasons why older man would choose a younger woman is so that she can take care of him as he grows older & his health deteriorates. You'd basically be a free nurse to him

I have mixed feelings about it. There have been so many couples with age gaps that failed due to their age gaps. I've been on the fence as to whether or not I believe age is just a number. The younger one is changing faster than the older one. When the older person doesn't keep up with the changes, they drift apart. They both grew up in different eras, so it's like their from different cultures. If they don't take that into consideration, they may not spend more time than other couples to get to know each other more, and that can cause some problems.

In my personal opinion, I find this kind of relationship a bit "weird", however, I would rather accept and respect it than those relationships which involve a relationship with a minor.
