Exactly, I laughed because Hitchcock was criticizing people being voyeurs and putting their noses into other people's business. But the whole art form of movies is showing other people's lives so every viewer is being a voyeur.

Grace Kelly won an Oscar for best actress this same year. ( different movie)
2 years later ,she gave up her career in order to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco. She became Princess Grace of Monaco.
HItchcock had a thing for blondes and she looks amazingly beautiful in this movie. When he wakes and she's floating down to kiss him as if in a dream... just glamorous. Old Hollywood movies knew how to light and film actresses for beauty shots. Nowadays, it's much more naturalistic lighting so that art has been lost. Sadly, she passed away in a car crash at the early age of only 52.
At the end of the movie, Lisa is wearing jeans and a plain red shirt, not a designer gown. But she still reads her high fashion magazine. She is meeting Jeff half way. BTW, sales of jeans may have increased after this movie's release.
Part of what makes the story possible is that 1954 was just before most people in New York City got window air conditioners, which allows you to close the windows and pull the curtains. I lived in Jackson Heights, Queens until 1966 and I don't remember having any ac units.
This movie has always been one of my favorite suspense/thriller movies. One of the best movies that is always overlooked and very underrated and with great actors. Is Wait Until Dark. Starring Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin and Richard Crenna. It was made in 1967. It was great thriller.😊
This movie is only overlooked by people under forty. Hitchcock was considered to be, arguably, the greatest director in existence.

If you like simplicity with suspense and interesting character dynamics, I highly recommend two other Hitchcock films: Lifeboat 1944, and Rope 1948. Just like Rear Window, everything happens within a single set. Great reaction guys!
Yes. Too few people acknowledge "Lifeboat," which is a great movie.

Rope is such an underrated movie, it’s often overlooked when people talk about Hitchcock movies. And the fact that it was filmed in several long scenes with no cuts. When the camera was running out of film, the camera would zoom in on a dark surface, the film was changed, and the shot resumed. It was also one of the first mainstream movies to feature gay characters (they never actually say the murders are gay but it’s obvious from their interactions). Another underrated Hitchcock I’d Shadow of a Doubt, filmed in Santa Rosa CA. But my favorite Hitchcock is Rebecca

Another old but classic movie is "North by Northwest" starring Cray Grant. He also starred in "To catch a Thief" from same time.
"North by Northwest" Is the most entertaining Hitchcock Film if not the "Best"!

James Stewart has the cast on his left leg, and had leading role as the father from the movie, It's A Wonderful Life and tons of other movies.

So glad y’all are doing these wonderful classic films! One of my favorite Hitchcock stories, along with “North by Northwest” & “To Catch a Thief”. (When Grace Kelly first appears…oh, that close up, she still takes my breath away. Such exquisite beauty, class & charm. Back in a time when that was more common in women than not)
No one had air conditioning. That's why all the windows were open and some were sleeping on the fire escape.
Really really good to be made 50 years ago and had you two showing lots of emotions. It's great.
FUN FACTOID: Like Stephen King (Actually, it's the other way around), Alfred Hitchcock likes to make cameo appearances in his own movies. He can be seen winding the clock on the mantle at the 07:40 mark in the film.
This movie shows how literally a lot of strange things can be happening right outside our windows.

"Wait Until Dark" (1967) starring Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin is a suspenseful film you might enjoy. It's not Hitchcock, but it's solid genre go-to for me when the mood strikes. : )

The great Thelma Ritter (Stella) has the distinction of having been nominated 6 times as Best Supporting Actress, though she never won. She was always a delight.
The composer/musician/piano player is Ross Bagdasarian who created Alvin and The Chipmunks.
And of course the killer is Raymond Burr, tv’s greatest attorney, Perry Mason.
Alfred Hitchcock liked to make little cameos in his films, so there he is a 7:43 into your video, standing behind the pianist.
James Stewart was a big star who did lots of films, including three other Hitchcock films (Vertigo, Rope, and The Man Who Knew Too Much). Yes he was in Harvey and It’s A Wonderful Life. Other films of his include The Philadelphia Story, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, and Anatomy Of A Murder.
Plus, a lot of people seem to forget , that he made a lot of good/great westerns like the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and many others.
Fun fact: The actors in the apartments wore flesh colored earpieces so Hitchcock could direct them and they could get their cues.
One of the greatest suspense movies ever made is "Blow Out" from 1982 Very highly recommend.

I spent an afternoon watching a Hitchcock marathon on a classic movie channel which is when I first saw this movie. It is so good. Jimmy Stewart was such a good actor.

Another fun movie is Charade, it is like a Hitchcock movie. Stars Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn.
Hitchcock actually built an apartment building as the set for this movie. Some of the actors even lived in the "apartments" during the filming.
The composer was played by Ross Bagdasarian, who (among other things) created Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Raymond Burr, who played Lars Thorwald, was one of the first celebrities to have his own winery. Raymond Burr Vineyards still exists in Healdsburg, California, even though Burr died at the age of 76 in 1993.
You forgot to mention that Burr became famous as Perry Mason, one of the first courtroom dramas on American TV.

The blonde is princess Grace, I believe. The killer is the great Raymond Burr, star in many movies and the TV shows, Perry Mason and Ironside!

That being said, this is a great movie with one of my all time favorite actors, the late great Jimmy Stewart, and it makes me smile/laugh, that a movie about a guy being so bored he watches other people, is now being watched by people watching other people watch a movie.

It means the girl reminds her of herself because she's in love with James Stewart, not the wolves who are all over her at her apartment so she can tell that woman is also in love with someone else which we see at the end with the little short guy who enters her apartment.
A great courtroom drama/suspense film is director Billy Wilder's "Witness for the Prosecution." Good luck guessing the end to that one.
Yet another vote for Wait Until Dark! (Its somewhat similar to Rear Window is why some of us are bring it up. And its danged *great* !)

His name is Jimmy Stewart. He's one of the most famous and beloved actors of all time. He was in MANY great movies. If you look some of them up you will find more good reaction videos. One good one is Anatomy of a Murder. ALSO, the man who did the murder was Raymond Burr, who eventually became a VERY famous TV actor -- first as a brilliant defense lawyer, Perry Mason (EXTREMELY famous), and then as "Ironside," a clever police detective confined to a wheelchair. The glamourous woman was Grace Kelly, who eventually married the Prince of Monaco. The other woman was Thelma Ritter -- who stole every scene she was ever in, lol. I enjoyed her very much in The Misfits.
You need to watch Hitchcock's other classics, "North By Northwest," "Vertigo," "The Rope," "Dial M For Murder," "Rebecca," Frenzy," "The Man Who Knew Too Much," "Notorious," and "The Birds."
This is my favorite Hitchcock movie. One of the reasons is the wonderful Thelma Ritter who makes any movie she is in better.

I'm in the minority that finds Vertigo overrated, but the other two are eminently watchable!
I hope you watch more Alfred Hitchcock movies! You would love them! Don't be afraid to try his early British movies. They're all thrillers! But you can't go wrong with Hitchcock!
There is no such thing as a bad Hitchcock movie. Almost all of them became classics, and even the ones that didn’t are better than most other movies

You mentioned Harvey in your outro. Is that a coming attraction reaction? Don’t tease me! It’s a special (fantasy) film that can be an acquired taste. Very unusual for the times.

Another Western worth watching IMO is *The Quick and the Dead* (1995) starring _Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone_ and _Gene Hackman._
While not western related, I also recommend *The Mexican* (2001), starring *Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts* and *James Gandolfini.* Truly delightful.

The villain here, Raymond Burr, spent most of his career as ultra successful lawyer Perry Mason and investigator Ironside. Obviously he reformed.
And also ironically played a detective confined to a wheelchair in Ironside.
We all see things and make assumptions based on what we see. This was the hook for this movie. Hitchcock was a master of the everyday man getting into trouble.
There was a movie made in the late 90s or early 2000s with Shia LeBeouf called Disturbia. It was a loose remake of Rear Window, where Shia has to wear an ankle bracelet and can’t leave his property, but something happens to the girl next door who he has a crush on. It’s not nearly as good as Rear Window but still entertaining
Alfred Hitchcock made cameo appearances in his movies; he had to get them out of the way early so the audience could focus on the story. Here, he's the clock repairman in the songwriter's apartment.

In all the times I've seen this, I just now, with you guys, saw Hitch in his cameo in the composer's room for the first time. It only took some 30 years to notice.

Alfred Hitchcock is the director of Psycho as well as a lot of other great films like Rebecca, North By Northwest, The Birds, Strangers On A Train, Shadow Of A Doubt, Vertigo, The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, Notorious, To Catch A Thief, and The Trouble With Harry, among many others.
They should watch "North by Northwest." It is also a classic movie.

Hitchcock was the man adjusting the clock in the composers apartment in the beginning Hitchcock always makes a cameo in his micies just like Stan Lee
In the "rain scene', Hitchcock directed the couple that was caught on the balcony through radio earpieces. He gave them conflicting instructions to create genuine chaos.

Jeff is neither pessimistic nor insecure. He is a freelance photographer and doesnt want to be stuck in NY where he won't be happy. Jeff had to brow beat both women over and over before their intuition kicked in.
The murderer was played by Raymond Burr who played Perry Mason, the famous defense lawyer, on American TV for many years.
23:50 Lars Thorwald didn't find anyone in the hall so he went to the fire-escape window/ladder looking for the person who may have left the accusing paper note.

Mr. Hitchcock would have been proud of how invested you two got in his film. It is a good story isn't it? To see Grace Kelly in another Hitchcock film try "To Catch a Thief" Excellent story set on the French Riviera. Kelly met Prince Reinier (spl) and later married him making her the Princess of Monaco.

"The Cheyenne Social Club" Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda are both in it and it's a good movie.
You can see Grace Kelly again in TO CATCH A THIEF (1954), this time with Cary Grant. If you do, watch the look on Grant's face at the very end of the last scene in the film. Also, it sounds like you're not familiar with Hitchcock movies. He made it a practice to make a cameo appearance in each movie, starting, I don't know when. It's like playing a game of Where's Waldo to spot him. I don't think you did in REAR WINDOW. I won't tell you where he appeared. You'll just have to watch it again.

I think this is my favorite movie ever. One of Hitchcocks best. More of his to watch would be Rope, The Birds, Vertigo, and Psycho

actually hollywood produced far more movies in 30s, 40s, 50s, than they do now.
Then all the great movies of the 60s and 70s changed cinema forever.
@@flarrfan hollywood did make great movies in 30s to 50s too. even in 20s. hollywood lost it somewhere in 90s, with few exceptions.
We watch the Grit network, and it's amazing how many Westerns Hollywood made back then.
I don't know why Hollywood doesn't remake some of those old B movies, instead of remaking classics or successful movies.
