This is the same path I took. Stock with 37's, then a fender chop to give me more clearance, over the wheels, then a 3.5" Terraflex RT3 Extended travel lift. The journey made me absolutely confident in my choices. Really happy with the Method 701 Bead Grip wheels
I'm loving those bead grips. I wheeled with someone last weekend that had them down to 3 psi in the snow..zero problems!
Subscribed, nice content. I have been debating this whole move myself - i was conflicted with shelling out $2k for 35's when I could be damn close with 37's. I appreciate everyone else's input (and Christian's from Epic) on the Teraflex 3.5 lift job for this Rubicon - looks just like your Mojave w/ the new smartcap I slapped on it and I'm glad I don't see a whole lot of them around here! I've heard great things about Clayton. I was really interested to hear Christian's point about 3.5 vs 2.5 because of drop bracket geometry. That was new to me. I've always thought you should stay as low as possible as long as you have clearance. Good luck with your build!!! Thanks for subscribing!
Is there a video version of your podcast? Am I just missing it? Anyways. Went back and listened to a bunch of them. Loved the one with your wife on planning a trip. Sparked great conversations with my wife since we are planning our first big family trip in April for the last total eclipse in North America until 2045. We’ve never done a trip together. We got our first fridge and you guys had so many helpful tips in that episode. Thank you for doing the podcast. Also loved the ones with your kids. Great insight from them for all of us parents. Our youngest daughter who’s 12 now has told us since she was 3 that she wants to be a mom. Scary but awesome. Well, good luck for us, we’re camping next to a family with a 3 year old for the eclipse event. Can’t wait for it to come!
I love hearing when people have actually listened to the podcast. I stopped making video podcast, but in 2024 I'll experiment with bringing them back and having them be part of the channel content. In the long run you are going to way happier with a lift. I’m running 37s, 4:88s and a 3.5” Teraflex lift. 37s are going to help, but if you’re going to do serious off-roading you can still use the improved break over and departure angles. You should also look at rear sway bar end link to frame mount reinforcement bracket. Teraflex makes a great one. They work way better before you damage the frame mount like I did. I’ve seen what you do and you should lift it.
I’m 100% lifting it. This is just me documenting what it’s like to run these tires with no lift. But ya, I’ll probably do a 3.5 and regear at some point down the road.
I put 37's on my Mojave without issue, started with BFG's then went to MileStar Patagonia. Both worked great, no rub etc.

Saw you driving the Galdy with them on as you pulled out of tire shop. Wow!! I was jelly because I have an almost new set of black Method 502 rallys sitting in my garage because they don’t fit my Audi q7 (traded in my other rig). So I kind of just sit there in total sadness admiring others wheels, while I look so naked and plain😢. Definitely a way better look with the new 37’s.

The Gladiator is looking real good. I ran 35s and no lift on my 2018 JL Rubicon and it worked out pretty well but, down the road I decided to do a Daystar 3/4" spacer lift - really good budget option for adding a little more clearance.
Over the summer I removed the 30lbs of plastic junk from my fenders and did American Adventure Lab inner fenders.

AEV Mojave specific 2” lift is the bomb if you don’t want go that tall.

Started with 3.5 lift with 35’s that last about 3 weeks 😂 then went to 37’s and absolutely love them ! Also went to 4:88 gears awesome combo and super happy

I am going with only a 2.5" lift from Metalcloak for all those reasons on my JTRD. I'm never going to rock crawl and with 37's it will be perfect for all I do.

Will, have you had your hinges ppf’d??? I’m seeing some serious tire poke. I transferred my jku wheels and tires over to my jt and the stance was the same as with 2” spacers on my jk!!! Wider axles, me thinks. Anyways, I was paranoid until I had the hinges protected. I’m still on 35s (6mnth old Ridge Grapplers) as I hadn’t planned on moving to a gladiator so quickly - thank the rebates and the sarge green with saddle seats catching my eye. I don’t have the same Epic and Metalcloak pull as you, so I’m hanging tight with a budget boost and airbags till I fill my coffers. Christian had lots of good points (I’m adding to my comments as the vid plays!)
I haven’t…I DO have a quick touch up paint kit from Mopar though. PPF is definitely coming!

I LOVE Nitto! Been running them for a very long time. These Recon Grapplers look badass on your rig! Let us know if it fits in the spare tire location. My 38” Ridge Grapplers don’t. I also tried a 37” Trail Grappler off my JK in there and it didn’t fit either.
Jury is out on the Spare tire fit. They didn't want to try at the tire store, and I haven't had time to properly try it either because we've been on the trail so much. Will update as soon as I have a minute to focus on it.
I have 6.5 inches on the front and 5.5 inches clearance on the back .. and i have taken my jeep on some 6 to 7 rated trails and never a rub 👍
How you drive it is as important as what you’ve modified. 👍

Will, I'd love to get your thoughts on an upgrade I'm planning on my '12 JKU Rubicon. I love overlanding and push it with some mid-hard rock crawling (I guess I fall more into the Rock-Landing group). My JKU comes with the Rubicon T-Case which has 4.0:1 gear reduction. I love it for rock crawling, but I feel it is too steep while overlanding with my friends that usually have at best 2.72:1 T-Case gear ratios. I'm thinking of adding a doubler between the Tranny and T-Case so I can select a 2:1 reduction so I can go over 12 MPH in without downshifting into low (and thus keep up with my friends). This gives me the option of engaging just the T-Case to get 4:1 when I need it, and both in the extreme case (8.0:1 from tranny to drive line).
That mod sounds pretty great...but also like one thing that might break. The option to choose between would be nice..but honestly, I've never had the ruby t-case. My JKU was a Sahara and both my 392 and Mojave have a faster geared TCase. So it's hard for me to say you should or shouldn't do it since I've never had the problem of my convoy going faster than me lol.
Hey Will, just watched Revere Overland and noticed the last part where you made your decision to skip the diesel heater and buy the Propex propane heater instead. Before you buy the Propex consider my advice from someone who also has had both but from another perspective. It may save you some frustration, time and money.
Let’s talk about the cons of the Propex propane heater. It operates at 2 amps which will only give you 1 night of heat if you are using a 500 WH power station. 2 nights on a 1000 WH station. A diesel heater is way more efficient. A diesel heater on fan speed 1 is only consuming .5 amps. That will last you approx 3 nights on a 500 WH station. Aprox 6 nights on 1000 WH station. Also a lot less fuel is consumed with diesel vs propane. Propex propane heaters are $1,000. Apples to apples. If you spend $1,000 on a diesel heater like a Webasto, you won’t get smoking or any of the other problems that cheap Chinese diesel heaters have. The more expensive diesel heaters have auto altitude adjustment. Even some Chinese diesel heaters have auto altitude adjustment, like the Maxpeeding Rods brand, HCalory or Vevor. Fuel spillage not a problem if your diesel fuel reservoir is attached on the outside of your rig (like on your tire carrier or rack). Just run a quick connect fuel line to the diesel heater. If you wouldn’t transport your gas filled rotopax inside your rig why would you transport your diesel filled rotopax inside your rig. Also the Propex will kick on and off all night long which is a bit noisy. Not consistent white noise. Also between the on/off phases all night long the Propex has large gaps in its ability to hold a consistent or steady temp. So if you set the thermostat at 68 deg it’ll bounce between 61 deg and 70 deg. Super annoying. Some complain about the diesel heaters fuel pump clicking noise but you can buy a $35 quiet fuel pump upgrade on Amazon. The advantage of the diesel heater in comparison is having consistent soft white noise all night long. Propane heaters don’t have app control. Newer diesel heaters do have app control. In my opinion the diesel heater beats the propane heater in almost every category… efficiency in fuel, Battery consumption, cost, weight, much less fuel needed, temp control, quieter (with quiet pump upgrade), and app control etc.
This is a very well thought out point. However, I haven’t decided to go propane yet…but I have decided to stop messing around with cheap diesel heaters. They are not worth my time and money. When I ran Rob’s propex it only used 10% of my 500W battery…so I could have easily used it for the entire trip without recharging my battery. Not debating your calculations..just sharing my experience on that. My bottom line is this…I don’t need to mess with a heater to go camping. I’m from Idaho and love the winter…all I really need is warm sleep gear, which I have. I’m starting to realize the heater thing isn’t necessary at all. Less gear to bring, less things to set up, less things that go wrong! Layers and a good bag are all you need. Heaters, while nice when they work, are not essential (for me).

I totally agree. The only times I’ve used either system was for when my wife or kids come along. As for the WH battery calc, perhaps I’ve been in colder situations during use. What temp were you using it in? Last, I thought it was worth mentioning… I really respect how you choose to include your family on your adventures. It’s nice to be able to look back one day in old age and have memories to share with significant others. You set a great example.

So did your fenders explode like Ginger suggested lol?!?! I'm in a Mojave with 37 inch Cooper AT3's and have added a 1.5 inch Teraflex front level kit that includes a 1 inch bump stop extension up front. In the rear I have added a 3/4 inch Daystar spacer and I have some Teraflex 0.5 inch rear bump stop strike pad extensions to add as the tires get pretty close to the inner fenders under full hard articulation (a front tire off the ground). Up front I have some Currie Rock Jock 1.5 inch shock extensions to add to get the shocks back into a better zone and allow normal travel. I don't have disconnects but have Mopar lift kit extended links. I am considering adding te JKS Flex connect setup....
Sounds like you have a great set up. I’m still running them on the stock Mojave suspension. Zero issues so far.
Totally agree the 33" make it look like a little kids toy. Ofcourse my 33's make my truck look Huge! 😂 We love our Method 707 BeadGrips with the Apex Fast Deflators. While we run the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. Which we've found to be extreamly quite with great traction. We went this route over the Toyo (≈Nitto) which dominate in snow. The Falken seems to be better in rain ratings with testing and reviews I saw. Our OEM tires where Hankook's I didn't even notice I had new tires when I left our tire shop. So nice to see you doing all the calibrations. Well done as always!

Found this all very interesting. Have a 2021 Mojave and decided to run it stock through the life of the OG tires. I wanted to see how it did in my “true” use needs to better inform my future mods. Honestly I’ve had no issues with the 33’s. I have noticed that as time goes by I’m asking more of the rig but being that I’m using it as an “overlanding” rig and not a rock crawler I think I could easily keep it stock with improved skills and better decisions on the trail (lol). What about 35’s for my situation, would that require further mods to accommodate? What would the Ginger say? Thanks for your insight.
I like your approach. They are GREAT stock...even if they don't look as cool. We ran ours on the NV BDR next to my 392 on 35s..and the truck scraped a lot on the washouts and rocks on that trail...that's one of reasons I wanted to move to 37s asap. I think 35s are probably the perfect overlanding tire...good for tough trails, and good enough for most rocks. I'm not sure what the Ginger would say about slapping 35s on there..but the Mojave will take them easier than they did my 37s.
JT's on 4.5 inch lift with 38's with a little poke out the fender is what makes the JT look proportional especially with the long tail. Even for mall crawling it's a great fit because you rarely bend down to put anything in the tailgate especially if you're between 5'6 and 6ft tall. Lol.
How do these tires hold up in the snow? I currently have 35 Nitto M/T Trail Grapplers and for deep snow they are great, however they slip easily going downhill with just a few inches of fresh powder. I am looking to upgrade to 37s (I should have gone with them in the first place lol but decided on the 35s) but I am looking for a better tire will driving on regular roads during the wintertime. This shouldn't surprise anyone with a Mojave because it has the highline fenders like the rubicon and a 1"inch lift from the factory over the rubicon. You wouldn't be able to get away with this if you owned a rubicon unless you did a fender chop. I personally did a 2" AEV booster lift and ran 37's it's almost the perfect stance and also threw on the apex sway bar disconnects.

You know I'm so torn on what to do with my JKU. 35s, 37s, what lift... Every time I think I have it figured out I watch something like this and question my whole existence. With the Majave do you think you'll need to eventually re-gear with the 37s?
Probably. The Mojave has 4.10s, which so far handle the tires OK. I do think a lift and regear are in my future though.

I have a '12 Rubicon JKU on 35" Patagonia M/T's (love these tires) - came standard with 4.10 gears. I upgraded to 4.56 and love it. When I wear out the tires, I'll probably upgrade to 37's (I'm more of a rock-lander). If the gearing doesn't work out, I'll probably up-gear to 4.88's, but I'll wait until I have some miles on them to see how she performs.
How are those Recon Grapplers working out for you? I had the Ridge Grapplers and was thinking of switching to those
I really like them. A bit less aggressive off road, but better in snow. Also a bit lighter and quieter on road.

Yeah people have been running 37’s on the JL/JT for years with no assist. All I did was throw on a power steering cooler and ran 37’s for 5 years without an issue.
Mine was an 18’ too with the aluminum steering box.
There's a bunch of data on each side of the "should you beef everything else up?" issue with 37s. My opinion is you can do it with a Mojave and not have to do anything else. The Mojave is probably the best platform to do this with though.
I haven't re-geared yet..and honestly, it runs pretty good. Nothing so major that I feel like I need to regear asap. I think the new steering boxes can handle it, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

Aluminum steering box MUST GO!!! Steel one is the one you need. Not sure if you can still get in on the TSB from Jeep but maybe worth a try. I got mine after warranty expired because it was a TSB for safety. Not sure if things have changed though. FYI@@Intentsrig
A narrower 37 would give you the same contact patch at air down, and better road performance when aired up. There was a great video done on it by "Tinker's Adventures"
I watched the same video. I’m not sure I agree with his conclusions. They are not based on a real build…the wheels he used were too small and narrow for 12.5s…with a proper wheel under a larger tire I think the results would be different.

I like the tread design on the new tire. Like said earlier do you have any plans to regear? I have no doubt a lift will be in the Mojave's future. I just can't see you driving around without a lift being a Poser.
There's a lift coming for sure..but I'm not sure which one yet. I'll likely regear as well, but honestly, the 4.10s really aren't bad. I still see 8th gear at highway speeds.
@@Venture2Roammine also sees 8th gear on the highway (if no headwind) and with the 4.10’s and the 8speed trans it has a better crawling gear ration then a JK on 37’s with 5.13. Only thing you really gain is the 8th gear back. ❤️👍🏻
I love the Mojave, but how do you get around the low(ish) payload capacity if you are overlanding?
Step 1 of overlanding: remove the GVWR label.

Payload is a problem…but it’s better than my Wrangler. We pack as light as possible. Our gear is a mix of car camping and backpacking stuff.

Please stop suggesting moving 33 to 37 has no consequences. Steering components are not built to handle 37, suspension, wheel bearings, wheel arches, transmission shift points, and so many other components. It would be so much more responsible if youtubers would instead go through the whole modification process and explain why every components need to be upgraded, trade-off vs gains, and finally the financial impacts. Have you even checked how unsprung mass has an impact on stopping at 60 mph on the highway if you need to do an emergency brake? Did you know that a stock Jeep could do 60-0 under 304ft or 612ft worst case with stock 33" and could easily translate into 1,000ft with 37' on stock not even accounting lost of control due to wheels tearing through your stock front fenders and snapping any components built to withstand OEM setup. Christian is right, to get a Starbuck coffee driving like miss Daisy.
It sounds like you should make a video about this, which would do way more good than just complaining via a comment.

I definitely agree that a gladiator needs 37s. Anything smaller makes the gladiator look wimpy.

Gladiator needs 4.5 inches of lift and 38's with a little "poke" out the fenders to be proportional especially with the long tail.

I haven’t regeared yet. It’s fine. A little sluggish…and I will rehear eventually, but it’s still very drivable without.
I just put 37's on my overland with a 3.5" lift and I'd say thats probably perfect for the majority of us. Most of us are not taking these out rock crawling. You wouldn't have bought the JT if that was your intention because of the poor departure angle.
I agree with the notion that 37s with a 3.5 lift is probably the right call for the vast majority of circumstances.And you guessed right, the JT won't be a rock crawler, it will be a desert runner. The 392 will be more of a Rocklander build.
I would have went with the 37x11.5R-17 instead.
That's a good choice. I like them a little wider, but 11.5 probably performs better.
Well @Venture2Roam they should rub less, throw less mud all over, and get better fuel economy. That poke is an $800 fine here.

Maybe. I just took it snow camping with some interesting wheeling and it did just fine. Not advocating treating this like a full lifted set up..but it's interesting to me how much it can do without anything else done.
Don’t do it. Gas mileage is already bad. And you definitely will need to change things underneath. Lots of stress on the factory set up. Rubbing is not the issue. It’s mechanical issues under stress. Good luck. I run 35 grapplers on my gladiator rubicon and I tried the 37s. Looked cool but gas cost too high. And on long island to drive onto the beach 35s are the limit.
Oh and I have a 2.5 lift.
You're not wrong, but to each their own. The risk of damaging driving components is there, but there's a bunch of data on both sides of that issue. Gas milage is 100% true...but as a Jeep owner that ship sailed for me a long time ago...that said, I respect anyone who's trying to keep it less horrible. Also 35s are a great tire size. I've driven them 1000s of miles on almost every type of terrain and think they are the perfect overlanding tire size...but I'm still doing 37s 😂

What’s your MPG? I run 37s and get 16/17 average. I am regeared to 4.88 though.
My 2018 JLUR (built) on 38's (Patagonia) and 4.88 gears is 15 around town and close to 17 most of the time on the highway. Live in a mix of hills and flat land in north Georgia. Just for reference. If I was in more of a hilly area meaning foothills I'd go 5.13@@groot_offroad2958
I think some dude with purple hair and a blue gladiator blew two front axles rubbing tires into the wheel wells.

Stock mojave drives like crap on 37s and bad drops will ram your tires into your fender roofs.
You need atleast 2 inches of lift and proper bump stops to run 37s on the Mojave for anything but street use and ideally 4.88 or higher gearing or youre going to lose 8th gear above 65 mph and your milage will tank.
Im running 5.38s and 2 inch AEV spacers on my Mojave, and i went with the fox adjustable stabilizer to bring back some control to the steering at high speed
You’re not totally wrong, but I’ve been wheeling it stock on 37s with no rub, and 8th gear hasn’t gone away at highway speeds. Not saying a person shouldn’t get a lift, but it’s interesting to me that my truck is doing just fine without it. Will I get a lift…yes of course, but I’m also documenting how it’s doing without one.
