The Ukrainian song proves the power of music! You feel the sorrow in her voice and the response of the coaches and the audience is incredibly movie even if you don’t understand the language! Brava.
Same here. I've seen the performance the times and it always ends in tears. If I'm not mistaken, it's a folk song titled, Plywe Kacza ("the duckling swims"). The lyrics are a dialogue between a mother and son going off to war, asking what if he never comes back. The dialogue is told in the context of a duckling crossing a river, which symbolizes crossing into the afterlife.
Of note, that performance occurred before the current war in Ukraine. I'm sure the song is extra meaningful today. Also, from what I've read, three of the mentors didn't turn because their teams were already full. Otherwise, in sure all mentors would've turned.

Tom jones is a true legend. But the folk song from the ukraine had tears streaming down my face. Dont know what she was saying but i could tell it was a very important song for the people. Moved me to my soul. Just shows the true power of music.

Sir Tom Jones is the G.O.A.T. I can remember watching his TV show as a young boy in Oklahoma, and I loved it. My Mama and my sisters would scream and sing along with him. What a beautiful soul he is.

Would it be possible to add an onscreen english translation to the non english songs? After reading the translation of the Ukrainian song I got what the judges were so shook up about, but an instant translation would have worked better.
Editing that would be really annoying to do, plus some things dont translate as good as they could

The reimagining of Dancing in the Dark is perfection. It's not "better" than the original, but it changes the meaning and the emotional context of the song. A great example of how a new arrangement can create a "new" song.

This comes from someone who spent his own money for the very first time on an album buying "Born in the USA" and saw Springsteen as the first live act I ever encountered - the "Dancing in the Dark" cover is a thing of unspeakable beauty.
