Ashok did say “if you like my name that much, you should take it” and that he did.
good observation
@@lyhthegreat obvious observation
The name is based on a popular actor too.
The way that Ashok behaved like his friend, bonding with him and all, and then later all of a sudden would show him his place as a lowlife servant was really disgusting
That was horrible
Shows how the Indian upperclass can never really reconcile with the lower class. Ashok is Westernized enough to care about him but still Indian enough to care about his social position.
Pinky is the closest we get to a genuine caring person (and the furthest from a typical Indian) but even she has habits of the upper class (giving him a strange amount of money when she left).
yup
The way I see it is that he doesn't treat Balram like his father or Mongoose did because he had Pinky by his side. He knew Pinky doesn't like this kind of behavior, and he knew in his heart that this is unacceptable way to treat someone, and when she left he got no one but his toxic family that encouraged his bad side. I really like his character as he portrayed how much other people around him can influence his mindset.
yeah he was worse than mongoose because atleast mongoose never changed his colors.
Great movie. Compelling. I liked that Balram was portrayed as a character with faults but at the same time with noble instincts.
not really noble instincts, the whole point of the movie was that he gave up his morals to escape being a servant, so I wouldn't call that 'noble', but it does speak of a message that corruption breeds corruption
@@mathsisdeadtomenow He did some pretty bad things. (SPOILER) But at the end he also helped and took care of his drivers, he paid the family when there was a fatal car accident, he adopted his nephew. He was a multi-dimensional character.
Dude the point of the movie is that he gives up his morality to escape the coop, and that corruption breeds corruption. Obviously no ones all bad and good but by no means is he meant to be viewed as noble.
@@mathsisdeadtomenow , he gave up a false morality that was created to enslave him. That's the point.
@@RafaelRodrigues-rx9ry Thats not true at all. You should read some reviews that actual critics have written, you've completely missed the point.
It shows the reality of gap between rich and poor. Balanced script with all the flavours of emotions but it feels like the concepts are assembled from various sources.
Acting is brilliant. The newcomer overshadowed the amazing Rajkumar Rao.
A vey good thing which should be appreciated is that there are no songs in the movie.
Production design is good. If it is not titled as 'white tiger' and branded with some other name which is apt enough, then it could made a little difference.
All and all it's a worth watch.
Great write-up.
There are songs in the movie
One thing that gets overlooked is the fact that his rural family has grown to 17 members, which also portrays the sad reality of Indian people who despite having such poor income decide to have a lot of kids which in my opinion is the greatest vicious trap of poverty.
ppl like having sex.....they cant afford condoms
Lol not like the kids cost them money. They getting PS5s and new Nike's? 🤣
not just India but also africa like nigeria because they lack knowledge on birth control like in this movies some ppl dont have a change to go to school so they work eat and f.
Another reason they have lots of kids is so they can get free labor for their farms
ah hello fellow vape cat member
What I really loved about this movie is that small did it made to Slumdog Millionaire “this isn’t a situation you can get out of by winning a million rupees at a game show”
Loved the movie and loved the fact that for the first time, A rated actors like Priyanka Chopra and Rajkumar Rao are not playing the read roles but characters of the book. The story majorly revolves around Balram Halwai who comes from village to city and how his pure intentions has turned ghastardly while being in clutches of his masters and how he stood up for himself and created fate of his own is gripping. Since I've read the book long back, so I'll say that all the major parts of the book has been covered while throwing light to a poor man's fate, or a servant in India. The movie has done justice to the book to a great extent. Reel life Balram has totally done justice to the character of the ficticious novel.
Loved this movie. Cause it was real and well portrayed. No cheeky ending like he went back saved his family and found a way to destroy the Storks blah blah blah. Cause that's just not how things usually play out
Totally agree. This movie takes the cake on being "real", even if it was a work of fiction, or semi-fiction.
I read the book when I was in school and it was so captivating and amazing that I could never forget Balram.
The movie does the justice to every role. It amazed me how a director can actually make us believe that it is not a movie. We engage, we become one amongst them, it feels like we are watching them in our lives.
Great movie. Great acting by everyone and great direction.
A tragic tale that seems to purposely shed a negative light on the caste system and the gruesome odds of moving up in society. Barlam himself had to become maniacal to finally break free and get to the top. But the lesson is that that shouldn't be the case in a healthy society.
This is literally get rich or die trying for Indians it is such good movie.
More than anything, I felt a sense of pride as an Indian, watching this. None of that stereotype, or overplaying Indian ways, accents, mannerisms. It was very real. Finally, an 'India film' that is simply a very powerful statement on humanity that could play in any cinema, anywhere, without having had to sacrifice all that is authentically Indian in this story. Adarsh Gourav plays a very difficult, multi-layered character that puts him on the world map, more than a clear stand-out in the world of 'Indian movies'. Gourav pulls it off like a pro, bringing nuances and facets of the character to life so incredibly well. Priyanka Chopra also does a fantastic job, again with a role that would have suffered portrayal by caricature in the wrong hands. More than justice has been done to an excellent novel by Aravind Adiga.
Iranian director through!
Many great movies are made in India but they never get the adequate attention they deserve, but this movie is being watched a lot globally which looks like breaking the chicken coop for India
Thank you netlfix
The movie was good but it wasn’t perfect. I felt that the 4th act of the film was rushed and didn’t really provide that impact I would have wanted during the ending. I wouldn’t explain too much of this because I don’t want to give out spoilers. The movie also seemed to have dragged a little during the 3rd act which I felt lost a little momentum.
On the plus point, cinematography, score and performances were brilliant! I wouldn’t complain if Adarsh Gourav and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas receive Oscar nominations for their work as lead actor and supporting actress. I also liked the original song from the film ( Jungle Mantra by Divine) which might get nominated at the Oscars as well.
Overall the movie was good. I would give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 out of 5
Agreed
Agreed 👌🏾
@alessio tiscali Dude you’re sick
I think the ending feels rushed because it’s basically just the epilogue. The movie effectively ends with Balram’s decision. The plot is about creating the conditions for him to break away from the servant mentality. It’s not about what he does afterwards. In fact, I think it’s nice that we are allowed to know what Balram does with the money, another director could just have ended it with Balram screaming at the wheel and leave us with the mistery
Get what you mean. Overall a great job, but for character arc they could have spent more time on that transition period.
Very informative!!!!! Awesome
Anyone else thought Balram was attracted to Ashok? Just me? Okay...
I thought it too. I read the book and Balram always describes Ashok as handsome, good smelling etc.
Now that you mention it, it was slightly puzzling when Balram refers to Ashok as "my ex" at the end of the movie. I supposed the implication was "ex-master," but then again you won't normally call your former employee/boss just "ex" because that would sound like an ex-spouse or ex-lover. I haven't read the book yet, but maybe the choice of the word was intentional? Balram's English in the email(=narrative voice) is quite perfect, so I don't think the word was there just to indicate limitations in his English proficiency.
That was because he said that he would pretend to be his wife.
He wants to be him. Not attracted to him
Just brilliant and the lead actor is amazing!
great film
Is it a thing to killing families as retributions?
Wtf...
Yes. To avoid retaliation

"The White Tiger" is a drama film which is released today on OTT platform. The story is based on Aravind Adiga's Booker Prize winning novel. The plot revolves around casteism in modern India. Audience will get a vibe of "Slumdog Millionaire" while watching this film.
Being a newcomer, Adarsh Gourav just stole the limelight. Priyanka Chopra Jonas was amazing. I had huge expectations from Rajkumar Rao after watching his performance in "Ludo". I personally felt that he could deliver much better performance here. Ramin Bahrani did a wonderful job with his direction. I didn't read the book so I couldn't compare with it.
This movie is well acted, beautifully made and engaging.
According to me, "The White Tiger" is a must watch movie.
No shit we watched it too
great movie
Nice I love this movie
balram after he becomes much more powerful and richer, im sure he will send assassins to his former masters for revenge
I really hate the way the movie ended, it was so real, Adarsh wasn't a bad person, he was a good person, but the low life changed him into a bad person, this is so sad, because a lot of real people on indie have the same faith, if you have no money or food, people will act worse than the animal. the grudge will grow on you till the point no humanity will be lifted on you.
And just like in real life, if you want something really badly, you can get it, but you will have to make a lot of sacrifices, and here, his entire family and his good part of him was the sacrifice he made.
To be honest I don’t think he became a bad person. He killed his abusive master and now that he’s a boss he treats his workers well. He takes all the blame for any wrong doing his employees make
so you'll just repeat lines from the movie??
The guy was too humble and I like it, I wish I could live such a humble life like him.
Did you even watch the movie?
What does the scene mean when he popped on the ground, laughing with his dad?
Its called going mad he was losing it that's why
It wasn't his dad...
That wasn't his dad
He didn't forget where he came from; just because he had a "high end" job. It was a realization, and he had a laugh about it with a stranger taking a shit
At least that's what I think
he'd left his hometown for a better paying job, and in this scene his uniform and cleanliness really stands out amongst the rubble of his surroundings and the dirt on the other man, marking him as a higher-class and outsider. however, the irony is that both the one who seemed to be living in better conditions and the dirt-poor man stuck in worse conditions, still ended up in the same place in the end- taking a shit in the dirt. no matter how much balram tried to escape the 'darkness' and thought that he had done so when he landed his job, in this moment he realises that he actually hadn't escaped poverty at all, he was still just a servant to someone else, and still very much in the darkness. his contempt for the dirt-poor is shown throughout the film as he thinks he is better than them, but after the realisation in this scene, he is shown giving money to a poor man.
Are you kidding me... is this genuinely a text to speech
It was most emphatically *not* a 'satirical' ending (you have to be an idiot to perceive such)....It was, rather, a *revolutionary* statement.
I wanna see a sequel!
Thanks for the movie. Please stop Labor exploitation and caste exploitation.
you literally did everything BUT explain the ending, what a waste of time...
Do what you like.... Otherwise you will be forced to like what you do...
Great movie and storytelling, sorry for Prime Minister who had no idea he was part of the cast members.
What cnt
What does this mean?
Haha. Nice one, with the PM. Great movie, though.
There was not a single character in that entire novel I was rooting for.
In that vein, I suppose that means there's not a single part of India I'm rooting for.
Who is shark ? ‘Ashok’
I noticed after reading your comment.🤣🤣
It's not poor parts of the town. Big metropolitan cities don't really have that, you'll find the poor in the streets, sleeping on footpath/roadside..
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤
he is more urban person than imigrant
Typical hollywood filmmaker try to show the dirt of india.
I still can't understand the applause surrounding this movie, he killed innocent man ,not even the ones that mistreated him and causes his father's death
The man he killed wasn’t totally innocent, he was corrupt, bribing politicians to prevent from paying taxes, doing his father’s dirty deeds. And Ashok did treat Balram like he was beneath him, he just acted like his friend from time to time, which really made Balram angry.
@@scifinerd17 are you an idiot?? non of that gave him the right to murder him?? do you even know what the difference between mistreating someone and murdering someone??
@@yousufazhar2308 They were criminals and murderers themselves and he lived in a third world country where the rich are at the top and the poor stay at the bottom and have no chance of surviving. Balram was driven mad, which was the whole point of the story, that’s why he killed him. He didn’t want to do it and even felt bad for it afterwards, it doesn’t justify what he did, but he did it for his own survival, because he wanted to get out.
@@scifinerd17 there are lots of different ways to get out besides the guy that he murdered never murdered anyone and i think you should read your comment one more time if you think that you are not justifying the murder
@@yousufazhar2308 He was literally trapped, he said in the movie that if he tried to escape they’d come after him and his family. Did you not pay attention? Jeez...smh
The part where the newspaper shows the family that gets shot kind of made me laugh. But in the end, I guess some sacrifices are made for the greater good. The nephew (I think) got a happy ending too.
But someone tell why did he kill his master for ?? Was he jealous all the time ?? Why couldn’t he just tell his master that he want to quit !! It was sad tho !!
He needed to kill his master and take his money.......to finally leave the coop. It was an opportunity.....since they were gonna replace him anyway.
I think he realized that their was no other way for him to be free and that that’s the only way
@@jaderose6615 Yeah cant believe he put his whole family in danger just to succeed. Thats a big sacrifice. Only a white tiger can make that choice and live with it!
After pinky left ashok he was becoming a violent drunk towards balram letting himself in balrams apt at all hours and refusing to leave and was planning to fire him I am not saying it's right but the whole system is fucked up
He could just tell his master he wants to quit. And then he could take his savings and buy a shack in the slums. Quitting grandma and the arranged marriage would be a little more difficult.
i thought this movie was trying to be like parasite in some way but i dont think it has lived up to that level. Firstly the dadi was portrayed as being evil but all she ask for was money from her kids which is not wrong in my opinion she's an old lady and she wanted him to get married which is something that ever mother wants for her child. Then the ending i mean a guy from low class is shown to have murdered his employer run away with the money and be successful without having any regard to his family. This is so awful it should not be glorified what will the coming generation learn from this movie ?? I dont know but i was seriously disappointed.
The main character is a psychopath.
Watch the movie again and watch all he does.No conscience.
