    What are the extent of the god of mischief’s powers?

    • @meganlodon
      @meganlodon Před 3 lety +28

      Lol. Yep. And it's more than just a representation. The mask has Loki's soul or something like that. Once you put the mask on, you become "possessed" by Loki himself. And I put possessed in quotations because Loki still harbors parts of Stanley even when he's in control. Loki like amplifies the personality of the person who wears the mask. Which I find very interesting. Man, I love this movie.

    • @rcbuckets
      @rcbuckets Před 3 lety +10

      Loki is also far more villainous in the Norse tales than he is in the Marvel Universe. In the MCU he loves his father and brother, in the Norse myths he has no immediate relation to them, and cares very little for them.

    • @meganlodon
      @meganlodon Před 3 lety +8

      @@rcbuckets Yeah. But also in Norse mythology he is known as Odin's and Thor's "brother" depending on the Saga. So, he's both Odin's "son" and "brother" or one or the other, depending on which Saga you go by. But despite Loki not caring, Odin cares for him in the Sagas where they are "brothers". Norse genealogy, relationships, and what not can get quite confusing, though that's with most ancient dieties in various cultures.

    "He's like god right now"....precisely. Remember, the God of Mischief and Chaos Loki created that mask, so it is his powers in it. The powers of a god of chaos is in that mask and it can literally bend reality how the user see fits. Hence why Stanly is all Loony Tunes, because he's a major fan of the cartoons so his powers mimics Loony Tunes.

      The Masks powers are limited only by a persons imagination and even then only what they person finds entertaining or funny. The only other limitation from the comics is that The Mask brings out and exaggerates a persons true personality. If a person is purely and unashamedly themselves the Mask doesn’t work, The Insane and psychotic for example.

    A lot of the movies from the 90’s that used CG that “still holds up”, is because they didn’t try to do more than the CG was capable of.
    This movie is a good example, because the character is cartoonish, the CG doesn’t have to look real, so it works.
    Another great example is Jurassic Park. They chose subjects that didn’t require a lot of expression or extra mechanics like hair, fur, feathers, etc., and they smartly blended it with practical effects.

    The mask amplifies repressed thoughts and impulses, making the wearer unhinged. It essentially takes away the superego, the part of your mind that says "This isn't right, we shouldn't do this" and lets the id take control, the id being the base needs and desires. At least that's my interpretation based on a semester of Psych that I refuse to not use lmao in regular terms, it takes away any fiber of your body that knows right from wrong, which is why even a good guy like Stanley -who wants to be a different kinda guy- gets turned into a cartoon casanova, and what's his face goes crazy in a "I'll murder anyone without remorse" kinda way because that's his inner want. Also, the more you use it, the more you become a little looser in personality, like how Stanley gets more bold in his actions towards the end.

Oftentimes, his movies were among the Top 10 grossers of their respective years. Thus, he was very much in demand. After Carrey chose not to do a *Mask* sequel, the original idea was scrapped and a whole new plot was conceived. The Mask is based on a comic book series by Dark Horse. It is much more dark than the movie (Then again you can't have Jim Carrey murder people in ways the Joker would say is over the top).

  • @spiritscar
    @spiritscar Před 3 lety +3

    The Mask wad based on an independent comic book published in the 90s.
    There actually use to be many more comic book films back in the day beyond simply Marvel and DC.
    Lot of movie reactors just going down the cookie cutter MCU catalog.
    It’d be more interesting to see you react to the other comic book films from the smaller and indie publishers.
    Some non Marvel/ non DC comic book films for you to consider.
    “The Crow” (1994)
    “Sin City” (2005)
    “Dredd” (2012)
    “Kick-Ass (2010)
    “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
    “Akira” (1988)

    Jim Carrey is the absolute best at physical comedy. He is great in every role he plays. They would recommend Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Cabel Guy, Batman Forever, and Liar Liar.
    Also the mask has basically no boundaries to its powers, also the mask changes do to the persons personality like how we see Stanley watching cartoons so it went with that personality for him.
    Also the mask originally was a comic book series except it was EXTREMELY gory with lots of people getting killed.

    Honestly, the best Jim Carrey movie is "The Majestic" hands down. I note a lot of commenters are suggesting other Jim Carrey movies, and they are funny, but what makes "The Majestic" his best is because in ALL of those others, he is 'over the top, crazy' it becomes his schtik, but in "The Majestic" all he does is act: no crazy voices, no silly gags, just plays a role, and nails it.

    @TimotheeReacts: Got to second what SpiritScar, below ( or above depending on how you sort your replies for reading, ) said ( typed. ) You should watch, and react to, 'Sin City' ( full title = 'Frank Miller's SIN CITY' ) from 2005.
    This is an absolutely brilliant film adaptation of some of the stories from Miller's popular "Sin City" series of graphic novels ( comic books to old guys, like me. )
    Filmed in black and white, with splashes of color for emphasis. Brilliantly directed by Miller and Robert Rodriguez ( primarily the directing of Rodriguez, Miller mainly helped the actors with character motivations. ) Also with one scene directed by Quentin Tarentino ( who is a friend of Rodriguez - and who had collaborated with him before*, and after**. )
    Excellent emsemble cast - including: Jessica Alba, Alexis Bledel, Powers Boothe, Rosario Dawson, Benecio del Toro, Michael Clarke Duncan, Josh Hartnett, Rutger Hauer, Jaime King, Michael Madson, Brittany Murphy, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Nick Stahl, Bruce Willis, and Elijah Wood.
    *See: 'From Dusk till Dawn' ( 1996, ) among others.
    **See: 'Grindhouse' ( 2007, ) among others.
