Great review! I’ve never read anything by Cassandra Clare, but it was super interesting to hear your thoughts on this book and Clare’s transition from YA to adult fantasy!

I haven't read a Cassandra Clare book, but I've been seeing this everywhere. I liked hearing your thoughts on what can be written in a adult book vs a YA book. And you cleared up a misconception I had about this book, because I thought it was a fantasy romance 🙈
I also like slow paced boring fantasy, and the story sounds interesting. I hadn't really looked into this book previously, but I'm kind of interested in picking this up now

If you do pick it up, let me know what you think!
Yeah the beginnings of some potential romantic subplots are in here (that I suspect will continue to develop in later books), but the bulk of the page count and the focus was on other stuff, which I enjoyed!
      Thanks for watching :)

Thanks for the review. I really like how you've highlighted its positives and negatives and provided enough detail so I can make an informed decision. I haven't read her YA books so this one wouldn't have been on my radar. You had me with talk of political intrigue, not being romance-focused and exploring power and corruption, but I'm not sure "slow paced, boring fantasy with walking around, talking to each other and doing things" for 600+ pages will have enough to keep me interested :) I don't mind a lack of action but need a bit of mystery or scheming to keep engaged. The characters and world sound interesting so it's one to keep an eye on. The YA-New Adult stuff was really interesting. I suppose she has to walk the line of retaining enough YA-like aspects to bring her established readership along, but have enough adult content to engage her readers who are now older as well as a new audience looking for mature content. I bet its quite limiting and often frustrating for an author.

Thanks for your comment! It’s definitely a slow paced book, I still found plenty to enjoy and to keep me interested but I’d say the sequel(s) will cement how good it works as an entry point to the series and setup for the world. I can definitely see it being too slow for a lot of people, especially at that length. I’ll keep you posted!

An excellent video. You’ve made me Cassandra Care about an author I have no experience with 🙏

really enjoyed the review! i loved and appreciated how you mentioned the transition into adult from YA but still talk about the book on it's own. I also have a couple issues with the idea of "new adult" that you touched on haha. Really excited to get to this book especially hearing more about the actual plot of it 👏

Yeah I really don’t think we need yet another age group to market to, or to separate out “new adults” as a demographic, but it was the most concise way I could think of describing it 😂
Thanks Bees! I’m excited to hear your thoughts when you get to it 😍

Cassie said, there would be four books for the Sword Catcher Book Series.

I have read several of Clare’s books. I actually loved the Mortal Instruments movie. There’s one line that Implied that Jace and Clary are NOT siblings but most people seem to miss it. I didn’t care for the Shadowhunter TV series. I don’t mind what others do in private but as a heterosexual male, I don’t care to watch 2 males make out. There’s gays in her books but it’s not so in your face. I’m looking forward to reading Chain of Gold. I’m most interested in the Lynn character and her magic system.
