- The Mavericks are coming off a surprise appearance in the 2024 NBA Finals in which Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving exceeded expectations. While the Mavericks are expected to be among the favorites to win the Western Conference among the likes of the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder, there are still some questions surrounding the Mavs and what they need to do to get back to the NBA mountaintop. Naji can definitely play DJJ's role, but guards will generally be harder for the Mavs to defend.
How do we get back to finals?
1. Luka has to play less mins in regular season. Play off ball more. Shoot 3 ball at +38%. FT's at +78% but most important reduce turnovers to below 4 per game.
2. Irving has to be more aggressive in first half.
3. Klay needs to shoot at least 8 3's per game and hit over 38%.
4. PJ has to be stopper on D and simply hit his wide open 3's.
5. Liv has to stay out of foul trouble, hit foul shots, should be able to get double double rebounds and points.
6. Grimes, Naji, Gafford, Exum and Hardy just do what you do. Be high energy solid NBA role players that are dependable especially in crunch time.
Of course last but the key for all NBA teams gotta stay healthy.
Thunder will be awesome followed by Timberwolves & Nuggets. With Spurs if they get LM from Jazz look out. Memphis, Rockets, Warriors, Lakers and Kings. Western Conference will be a blood bath again to get into the top 5 for playoffs. Sure would have rather picked up Curiso and LM going into new season. Go Mavs. Get Rest Luka.

If klay want to play in this team he must be a good defender
This is not a do or die for Hardy. He’s been decent and can only be better.
Maan grown men need to stop questioning how much Luka plays. If you aren't Nico or Luka know your place. Life isn't 2K. We all love basketball, but it goes too far when you start telling people that aren't breaking any rules how they need to live.
Hardy is doing great, looking like a mini Kai with his tempo and willingness to attack the paint, just needs some more time to work on defense.
As long as Klay fulfills his offensive roll, I'm completely uninterested in his defense stats tbh. Truth is we got defenders to put in when we need them most, but what lacked for us when it mattered most was bucket getting, not truly any defensive woes (except maybe Luka getting targeted on that end) If he's hitting that 40-45% from 3 range this league better WATCH OUT cause we will be EXTREMELY hard to beat
Think Klay has few gas in the tank. Luka will improve more in defense. DLive would be frightening if he add 3's in his offensive arsenal.
It he is still an elite scorer and defensive player as you want, do you think the Mavs could have gotten him for $50 over 3 years? That's why they got Grimes and Marshall for defensive help. So get off the notion that Klay will be defensive player he used to be.
If the Mavs get Dennis Smith jr, there shouldn’t be anymore defensive woes.🔒🔒🔒
We don't need him to be the elite defenseman he once was we just need him to do some defense which is just fine and I know for a damn fact that'll be a lot better than what kind of defense thj was doing

@@beastscale1892 he plays bigger than 6’1. he’s a slashing playmaker with Hall of Fame, defensive badges.😭😭 He has tht dawg in him, he’s known to make offensive players very uncomfortable.
We don't need Klay to be the D player he once was or come close to what DJ gave on the D side. He just needs to do what he does best shoot 3's and make 3's. PJ, Naji, Grimes, Exum, Gafford and Liv will be our key defenders. Luka, Irving & Klay just give effort and be in position on the D side of the ball. We don't need or want Luka being our top rebounder again. Much rather him give us 27pts, 10assist and 5 rebounds with 4 or less turnovers and play 30 to 33 mins during regular season. On back to back nights rest him. Target 67 games for him. He was simply beat up and worn out during playoffs. Mavs should tell him don't touch a ball for a month and let your body heal. Nothing but stretching and light weights and proper nutrition for 30 days.
I have been watching klay Thompson practicing in a couple recent videos he looks great very fluid and consistently hitting his jumpers. Too many haters on social media talking shit against the splash brother
Biggest question is can Luka give enough defensive effort consistently

The biggest question imo is who is the true back up PG. Exum and Hardy isn't enough.
Can Luka stay healthy? is the most important thing. Same for the others players...
Will Luka get in “real” shape?looks pudgy. Needs to gain upper body strength’ lose 10 lbs and get faster. Then Mature and Lead
Big question is will Kai choke again playing against the Celtics.
Hardy needs to look to do something else then just score. Every time the ball gets in his hands, he shoots it.
