I know right?? The beta dudes were so pissed at me for not loving it. It wasn’t right from the get go. Now it’s good. Looking forward to riding it more now.
Yeh but, to be fair, KTM's have that fancy e-lectronic injection with sensors and stuff that are supposed to automatically calibrate. He lives at high elevation, higher than I ever ride and the Beta has a carburetor that comes jetted for much lower. It should run funny out of the box up there. Don't think I would have had 60 hours of patience tho.
@@ddrowdy2 I jetted it already. It wasn’t out of the box. Also, it ran pretty good from 0 to 3/4 or 7/8 throttle. It was just the top that sucked. And honestly it seemed to get worse with time. I’m thinking it had more to do with the two plugs than jetting.
If KTM had a carbureted model today, would you now prefer TPI or TBI? The reason I ask is I had a 2013 KTM 300 that absolutely ripped. I ride my friends TPIs, still plenty powerful and nice bikes but they seem more like today's Beta (softer hit).
@@highlandcycles Yes, I agree and Beta is super! Great bikes. They have really crappy electrical wiring and electrical systems though, and I mean really cheap stuff. All bikes have something that's not great. All in all Beta's are fantastic bikes.

Great video, Definitely noticed my 24 doing the same when I was racing. Been eyeing up the s3 head for a while. Looking forward to seeing more on how it performs and jetting. Always felt like I am running rich even after leaning out the jet some.
I can say that my kid is LOVING it! Says it’s a million times better.

Based on past experience with Beta, replacing the voltage regulator with a mosfet voltage regulator would probably have fixed it also. The oem voltage regulators are a bit on the lower output side of things and when you have 2 coils at wide open throttle there was probably not enough juice. Anyone with charging problems on a beta 4 stroke (if your that way inclined) a mosfet voltage regulator is the fix.
Who makes the best one?

great drone opening, beautiful area. I have an 18 300rr & was thinking about jumping to a 24 RE but wanted to see reports about that 2 spark plug design. I'm sure its theoretically better, but real world questionable, especially for regular riders like us. Seems totally unnecessary after seeing your report.

I wonder if simply eliminating the rear coil would have fixed the problem.
Maybe, as someone else said, the bike just doesn’t have enough electrical power to run two coils at higher rpm.
That is a good question for sure. I wish I had tried that but I wanted a high comp head anyway for our elevation.

Jetting! My 23 is set up really lean 35, 160, J at first clip. Stock recommended settings were just baaaaahgy off the bottom, blubbery at cruising and dead at top like you were experiencing. I found the 40,38 to be way to rich of the bottom. I've had other beta''s and ran them all lean with no issues. I would think each bike needs to be jetted to each persons liking and each bike to me has had its own jetting settings. Good Vid, Long winded as usual.
I had mine at 158 already. I might try 155
Might want to confirm your float height , mine was out from factory , should of checked it from get go , made the mistake running a smaller pilot to try and compensate . Back to a 38 pilot now with a float height of 7.5 mm , 165 main , runs sweet now , 250 rr 2023
@@oky69 I have adjusted the float on several Beta's, They seem to go out of proper height often, I also re route the vent tubes higher for less lost fuel
@@bradaltergott2786 float height once set should not go out , set carby up at 60 degree angle and recheck, mine was at about 5 mm to high , set to 7.5 sweet spot

I’m planning a trip to Rico Colorado and I’ll be bringing my 300 beta, what jetting are you running? I’m assuming it’s similar to what you run in your area. I’ve got the high comp head and full exhaust.
For Rico, I’d run a 155 main, 40 pilot, NECJ needle in #2

Had to be too rich. Did not change jetting.
