I wish Mr. Marshall were still with us. His strong, compelling, commanding, knowledgeable voice would be as irresistible today as it was then.
@Vartox I agree a great man.
Love him great person and actor.Handsome and educate classy and sophisticated Nuff lova and God's blessings!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
He was fun and sociable
His voice was as good as James Earl's Jones... RIP William Marshall...
He was The King Of Cartoons on Pee Wee's Playhouse
He Most Definitely needs a star in the walk of Hollywood
Brittany Alston I agree 100%. Mr. Marshall definitely deserves a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. Such a brilliant and charming actor. ⭐️️⭐️️⭐️️⭐️️⭐️️
Brittany Alston you mean he dont have one...WTF?!
I concur.
@@buckypreseau7349 I agree
If he doesn’t have one then Hollywood still writhes in its festering antebellum mindset. Give Dr. Marshall his star IMMEDIATELY! 🥰❤️🖤💚✊🏿🙏🏿 🌟
A underrated ICON.
Indeed. Thanks for watching.
I wish Mr Marshall had gotten true acolytes he so richly deserves. He wasn't just actor, but singer, producer and gifted opera star
Absolutely!!! I ALWAYS said that. He's so commanding.
Tariq Marshall can you ever think of doing a remake of blacula? I think Chad boasman( black panther) could do a better black debonair vampire. his grace and style is way out of this world when he does c'hallawa. I'm not surprised your grandfather did an excellent job even ad the king of cartoon of peewee's playhouse. but I wish he lives a few years more just to talk with a few rappers and today's black reinansancce from film to politics. you're grandfather was a true wonderful man, hes a magnificent Shakespearean actor and I love to have him iny films too. thank you and Jah bless.
LifeWorks, ndh enterprises, llc. Chad could do a great job, but he couldn’t even touch Mr. Marshall’s rendition of Blacula, in which he already raised the bar so unreachably high. This man was very classically trained. According to folklore, he played Othello so effectively that it’s been said that his portrayal of this character was one of the best ever in acting history. Add to that, he had a very commanding presence with a 6’ 5” and a bass ranged voice. Not even
Chad can even come close!!
He had so much presence. You couldn't take your eyes off of him. He stole every scene.
So true. Not only that, you had to hear EVERY word that came from his mouth.
I wished he done 2 More Blacula Films back than
I believe Mr. Marshall displayed incredible class, humility, and self-restraint during this interview. Ms.(whatever her name is) repeatedly interrupted, rushed, micromanaged, and downright embarrassed herself by asking complex questions to "Sir" Marshall and then cutting his reply short or talking over him...etc (She seemed crass). I personally would have walked off the set once she mixed up the Korean War w/ WWII! Do some homework on your subject. At any rate...Mr. William Marshall was a strong, debonair, powerful presence in the 20th Century! His legacy shall endure and encourage. Thank You Sir!
no doubt , I didn't know if was just me. she really did everything she could to ruin this interview imo.
but very very put man.
I was so annoyed with her. Here sits across from this very talented actor and she kept on interrupting him.
Agreed...he was amazing as a man and actor...gorgeous opera singer. The woman was very rude... constantly interrupted him... disrespectful.
Terrible interviewer!! Terrible!!
90% of being a good interviewer is listening and getting out of the way. She obviously wasn’t aware of this. William Marshall was an artist and a gentleman. He is missed.
What an incredibly gifted actor. He was truly a man of class and is missed dearly.
bored1ca he was such well matter a true gentleman
He sure is
They do not make them like this any more. Mr. Marshall was a very powerful man.
Yes he was Jeff. One person I would have loved to meet.
The Prince Of Cartoons
With his stature, looks, and voice, the man displayed a powerful presence on stage and screen!
Mr Marshall flew with us from JFK to LAX, and he was the coolest most kindest man ever!!! He was very tall too! :)
Wow! Wonderful experience! I would Hav talked w him all the way across country!
Wow!
Thanks for sharing, Roy. What year was this fateful flight?
I met him at LAX riding on the A Shuttle bus 1987. He was a very gracious and polite man. I asked him for his autograph, and politely gave it to me without hesitate.
@@demetriusdion286 Yes, he was always quite generous about those kinds of things. Thanks for sharing.
Mr. Marshall spoke with such Intelligence & Class!- R.I.P. William Marshall
Somebody thought he was raised in England until they found out that he was from Indiana
What a charmer… SIP Sweet 🤴 PRINCE!
In my opinion, Mr Marshall has the greatest most iconic voice I ever heard, period!! It's a tragedy Hollywood didn't put him in more prominent roles. What a talent.
Agree
William Marshall, very articulate speaker. Enjoy listening to his interviews. What an outstanding actor and life he had. Gone but not forgotten. Thank you Mr. Marshall.
His voice sounds like he borrowed it from god.
That's awesome, lol. Dude's had a fantastic voice
Hello Mike, I just wanted to say that I agree with you. My eldest son is 43 years old and he has the exact same voice as Mr. Marshall!!
MIKE59780 loved his voice, his perfect diction...and he was a very handsome and outspoken Black man!
This was a awesome actor. He was so handsome. His voice was just magnetic.
@@elizabethjackson9263 your son should do voice overs, he'd be awesome
When I was a kid, I can remember seeing the movie where Mr.Marshall played, Blackula, and I was scared, yet amazed how talented he really was; graceful, professional, intelligent.
Grady Wallace me too, very true.l miss those days
As a young kid I remember being afraid of actually living with Blacula. I never knew if my father would suddenly emerge from his coffin and bite me.
brilliant, charismatic actor with a powerful voice.
Blacula and Scream Blacula Scream currently making waves on the new Scream Factory Blu-ray. Any new fans should definitely see this interview and your other videos. Thanks so much for sharing these. He had incredible presence, charm and intelligence. He added dimension to the Blacula character that still resonates today.
You're very welcome.
Good points of a great actor.
If James Earl Jones declined to give his voice to Darth Vader, George Lucus might’ve went to the late great William Marshall. Also, I liked how he didn’t let Ms. Hart interrupt him. I hate it when an interviewer does that to their guests.
Tariq,
Your father's leagacy lives on in you, in our hearts and in his body of work. I was first introduced to Mr. Marshall at 9 years old..his role in Blackula. He became my first tv idol and my admiration for his work and incredible talent has not changed. I am 48 years old and his talent, intelligence, and presence is undeniable. Classic and timeless...Im typing this message with tears in my eyes because of the postive impact his work has left on the perception and imagery of African-Americans in movies and film. Words connot express the admiration I have for him. Mr. Marshall you will be missed. Rest in Peace...your leagacy...lives on.
I know what you mean. I was only 8 when Blacula debuted in theaters.
Thanks, Monica.

The first time I saw Blacula was at the old Lux theater in downtown Oakland in the mid 1970s and it's one of scary movies I have ever seen.
Johnny mahsrow you did wow
I saw Blacula at a drive in theater back in the 70's and couldn't take out the trash at night after watching that movie.
My mom said the same. I thought he had the best Cape because of him I want to walk around with one
I watched blacula on comet tv
I saw it at the Grand Lake theater at the same time. I was about 7 years old and my babysitter snuck me in. It was a terrifying movie scaring the S*it out of me.

I have so much admiration for this man. I mean from the time I saw him as Dr Daystrom on Star Trek.
He validates my adherence to proper English in everyday conversation, and the use of class and tact.
We need more William Marshalls out there....
But thank goodness we got one at least!
Absolutely. The man who created the multitronic unit know as the M5
R.I.P Bill Marshall
William Marshall was very, gifted, talented, charismatic & sexy ...Very handsome actor.
I could've listen to Mr Marshall talk all day
Absolute legend. He elevated the “Blacula” films to classics with his fantastic performances and relevant input. Superb!
What a voice!!!!
to bad he couldn't get better roles what a classy man
He could have if he hadn't burned so many bridges. Nevertheless he retired comfortably after having done quite well for himself. Unfortunately, his reason for retiring was Alzheimer's disease, though.
He told me, and Sidney Poitier confirmed this story at the memorial service, that he, Poitier, and Harry Belafonte were a troupe in their early days as unknowns. At some point, my father told them that it was time for them all to go their separate ways.
Now, though my father did break into film before Poitier, everything began to fall apart when he was fingered as a communist for attending a negro artists' party, whereupon he was fired from Harlem Detective in which he played the lead. He then left for England. His career began to recover, though, upon his return to the US in the late 1950's, but he had become more political by then and began turning down roles that he felt did not accurately reflect race relations.
Despite his mistakes, he nevertheless did quite well for himself, but could have risen to greater fame if he hadn't burnt so many bridges. Once true fame was acquired, he could still have used that fame as a platform to address race relations, but he didn't see it that way. Primarily for this reason, he will always be a lesser-known actor with a strong cult following.
On another note, with his stature and basso cantante voice, he could have joined an opera company in Europe and done very well in that world when the acting opportunities dried up. He did a little opera, but not nearly enough. Had he made that choice, he would have been much happier and may possibly have lived longer.
oh hes was your Dad i was gonna ask about that looking at your name. im asuming you met Mr. Sidney Poitier at his memorial service if so that also awsome.i would respectfully disagree with your fathers opionion on him but im some generations younger .i first saw your father in Blacula my father who was white showed it to me knowing i like monster movies. he introduced me to Black and other culteres. thats two bad that you have to kiss ass to get work in H woold i like to tell it how it is . im an aspiring filmaker my self hope to find work ells were Thank you for replaying to me and sharring about your father. Take care
He made his roles ICONIC! that's more than any actor could ever ask for!!!!
Tariq... your dad was the epitome of a real black man! Talented, educated, intelligent, well spoken and didn’t take any mess! If you can post some of his other work, like othello, and anything else he graced screen or television with, it would be greatly appreciated! And yes... he was a VERY handsome and SEXY Black man!!! RIP Mr. Marshall! 🧛🏾♂️!
Great interview rest in peace to Mr.William Marshall.
Your father played the best , scariest , coolest vampire ever. His voice was special.
This man was one of the greatest actors who ever lived. And he NEVER received the recognition he deserved. He made the two Blacula movies classics purely by his very presence.

MR Marshall was a class act . What a great actor !
William Marshall, Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones... amazing voices!!
He made a huge impression on me as Dr. Daystrom on the old Star Trek tv show. I think he could deflect a landslide with that voice, I'll never forget it.

Scream Blacula Scream is currently playing on tv right now, here in the Northern California's Bay Area. Enjoying it even now.
It was no where good as the first one.
Tariq, I'm a great fan of your father's. His portrayal of a vampire was played not only with class, but a level of sophistication and swagger that Christopher Lee did not posses as Dracula. HIs voice, his sheer on screen presence was "hauntingly" beautiful. The power and majesty of his baritone voice was enough to send chills up and down a woman's spine! Okay,.........before you think this is something it is not; what I truly wish to say is that I enjoyed the sound of his voice; his diction, his enunciation falls gently upon the ears. As a lover of languages, I am always moved when black people speak with such eloquence. I'm sure you are very proud of your father's body of work. HIs presence from the screen is sorely missed.
Thanks, Doris.

I second the motion.
I agree right now
I just finished watching an episode of Bonanza where Mr. MARSHALL portrayed a black Opera singer Thomas Bauers he was so handsome and I was taken by his beauty and his voice...so I had to Google him very beautiful write up, so talented found out he played Blacula a black Dracula then I remembered him.... he played on Star Trek....a real Oper Singer ... a director....he played in so many movies and shows that I remembered...just and outstanding person love his voice ..he passed away in 2003 at the age of 78 ....please read about him you would be amazed.
His portrayal of Richard Daystrom in Star Trek was outstanding. He conveyed the turmoil of a man unravelling due to the huge pressure of expectation from others. For a one off guest role he managed to make the character impressive and a little ftightening. What a great voice too.
He is a very beautiful man and it was perfect casting to include him! ❤
The movie was creepy and scary at that time still a little scary when watched at night William Marshall owns that BLACULA character.
I admire this man so much. Even though I was afraid growing up I was 6 when I first watched this at the foot of my bed. My parents whooped my behind lol..When I grew older and watched it . He was was suave &debonair. Making me the gentleman and the man I am today. Salute Sir William Marshall.
One of the most underrated actors ever.
I remember going to see Blacula as a 10 yr old with my older sister and her children! I was terrified of the character and admired him just the same! An excellent actor, with his commanding presence and voice! An icon in our community and a legendary actor of the Black film era! RI power William Marshal, I wish I could have met you and thanked you, for your dedication to black films, during a time we were not recognized!

He'd have been the best thing to happen to me in that damn hospital lol.
Marshall was so far above the others that he should've been a pilot. What a master!
Great to see and hear this interview of the late, great actor William Marshall. The interviewer ,unfortunately, interrupted Marshall too frequently in this interview when he would be elaborating on a subject. Many interviewers ,unfortunately, never learn to let the interviewee talk extendedly so that he or she can fully discuss a topic and reveal interesting aspects of a topic that would be of interest to the listening audience.
One of the best actors to work on the original Star Trek.
Beautifully Dignified !!!!! And that voice , and audio eargasam
I was watching Blacula on fire stick over the holidays. He presented that character in a Shakespearean type style of a vampire.
All Hail William Marshall I missed you in the Hall of Fame in Blacula and Scream Blacula Scream and Black Pirate Hero. Sincerely Yours Tommy Brown

Gifted, eloquent, and extremely talented actor! Most ppl don't know that he also voiced the Marvel character ,The Juggernaut, on the X-Men cartoon.
Yes, the episode was "A Firestar Is Born."
From Marvel Animated
William Marshall, in my opinion, was a great actor who never got the credit he deserved nor the many great roles that he should have gotten. He was so full of class and dignity. I loved his voice. Why he never got any narration / voice over work that I can remember off is beyond me. I would loved for him to have joined John Facenda as a narrator for NFL Films. While Marshall scared the poop out of me as a kid in Blackula and gave his character a lot of depth, class and dignity, he was so much more than his most famous role. Looking back, Marshall, with all of his talent, skills, abilities, looks and personality should have been a much bigger, well known, more respected and appreciated actor and performer.
His Othello was wonderful.
They cut out one part of the interview, when Mr. Marshall got a bit excited. Here's how it went:
Tanya Hart: "How did your colleagues react to your success as an actor?"
William Marshall (thinking for a moment, and becoming angry): "Twenty years of groping, to prove the things I'd done before were not accidents. Seminars and lectures to rows of fools who couldn't BEGIN to understand my systems! Colleagues...colleagues laughing behind my back at the Boy Wonder, and becoming famous building on my work. BUILDING ON MY WORK!"
Fuckin brilliant! You nailed it! ..and then Dr Daystrom gets the Vulcan nerve pinch!
RIP, good sir! I only wish we could've met.
My children and grandchildren have all watched "Blacula" and " Scream Blacula Scream". I wanted them to see that whatever you do, you can do it with dignity! I remember William Marshall on Bonanza portraying real life singer Thomas Bowers. And also in the movie "Abby". A truly gifted actor!
This was great! Such a commanding actor. There's one thing I would have liked asking him and Orson Welles: "Okay guys, what do you REALLY sound like when you're at home?" 😉
One of the best guest stars on “Star Trek.”
*Such an underrated actor, such a shame! One of the GREATEST And SCARIEST vampires ever! RIP William...*

I'M JUST GONNA KEEP IT ONE HUNDRED!!! BLACULA COULD HAVE BIT THE SHIT OUT OF ME NIGHT OR DAY!! DAMN HE WAS SO FINE AND THAT VOICE WAS TO DIE FOR!!! AND WHAT AN AMAZING SINGING VOICE!! THE FIRST TIME I HEARD HIM SING WAS ON BANANZA!!
He indeed should have gone into opera, as true basses (in his case, a basso cantante) are the rarest of male voices. He would likely have flourished in a European opera company, more so than he did as an actor in America.
Hello Mr. Tariq, yes he would have I believe he would have flourished in European opera a whole lot better than in the U.S.!! i just never thought he got the recognition in the U.S. that he should have received!! My Eldest Son has the exact same voice as your dad. I just love speaking with men with really deep voices and that's why I could sit and listen to your dad's interviews anytime. Now this was a man i would love to had seen more of . He was just a huge presence on and off the big screen . And i have to say the best vampire movies of all time . It was so cool to see something other than the standard white vampire . Really wished he could have done a hundred blackula movies . Your big fan Mr William. M, George B
Thank you for your comment, George. He did do a lot of stage work, musical theater, and some opera when he wasn't doing film and television. He was just a bit ahead of his time, when there were fewer roles for black actors, though his turning down certain roles did not help. He really should have spent more time in Europe, since a black basso cantante with his stature would have flourished there in an opera company, especially in France. Anyway, thanks for watching.
Scarier than one of those Today's

To me - Sir William Marshall will always be Dr. Richard Daystrom of Star Trek. I wish he was still around to have young nerdy minds hear his voice. Oh, i know there's no shortage of inspiring iconic BiPOC actors (and activists) but dammit, Jim. How many possess a presence that can really be put in the same column as this man? Also - his Paul Robeson connection makes me (as a Philadelphian) very happy.
