I always thought of octane as the Bart Simpson of apex, is smart, but who has enjoyed the life of being “dumb”, in the sense of no tension or Debts

Here's the thing though, it did work. He calculated it correctly, he pulled it off, he reached the 11.7 second time and broke the record on the Gauntlet (which at the time was the World Record for the Pilot Gauntlet by CashMayo)
He's lacking in self preservation, but it's not like he wasn't right. Octane's various stunts of flying exploding rocket cars over weddings or surfing an exploding volcano or something don't leave him to tell the tale because he has dumb luck, he does genuinely understand the physics and techniques required to make it alive through what he does
Smart but lack common sense
I love how it went from Octane being Manipulative of lifeline in Season 5 to Him being as smart as Wattson , Crypto , and Caustic.
Ngl i dont think its fair to say that octane manipulates lifeline. Just my opinion tho.

@@ultravioletentertainment7332 yeah, plus i dont really agree that octane not telling lifeline about his dads involvement in the hostage situation was a sign of him being a fake friend. Obviously he didnt say anything because he didnt want to lose his only friend.

Tbh, if octane actually did plan his fights before rushing in, he would be terrifying in battle lore wise. He isnt revenant or ash level of terrifying but im sure he would be up there with wraith if he didn't simply rush in for the adrenaline rush.
You know, my older brother and I had a conversation similar to this once. Our conversation was who the smartest legends were, and we put him up there as one of the smartest legends. We put him up there with Crypto, Caustic, Wattson and a few other legends (legends like Ash and Horizon). Octane is smart, he just is a adrenaline junkie and enjoys having fun

If this turns out true it could also explain why Crypto suddenly does not trust octane as much, he even says hes something about like father like son iirc. So maybe its deeper than just oh octanes did a bad and crypto does not believe him, maybe crypto can see signs of some kind in octane that he knows how smart octane could be? I dont know I could be reaching tbh, just thought it was kinda strange for those 2 to have voice lines like that as you would think crypto would just see him like everyone else and dumb idiot who blows himself up and is reckless.

Did u know in one of the devs interviews (I think it was a live stream) some of the fan's asked the devs how smart is octane and one of the devs responded with and I quote "octane it's smart his very bright". And also said "when he uses his just pad he calculates how much force he needs to put in a jump to lunch himself"
Writers (specifically Ashley Reed) have said *Octane* is quite smart and savy, but about the stuff he is interested in:
like physics, aerodynamics, acceleration, preservation of energy, etc...
For example, *Octane* is supposedly the type of guy who could elaborate the complicated calculations to help an ski jumper (acceleration, angles, weight, air resistance...) reach longer distances

There is some sort of scale for the smartest Legends:
- *Wattson*
- (A incredibly HUGE empty space)
- *Horizon*
- *Caustic* (probably he shares the same level as Horizon)
- Past *Wraith* (probably human *Ash* was at this level too)
- *Crypto* and maybe *Octane...* and as a hard guess, *Rampart*
You really think Watson is that much smarter than horizon?
And wraith smarter than crypto? I mean yeah she’s not dumb and she’s smart in a combat way for sure but dudes a hacker

Even with *Horizon* modifying the laws of physics and reality, *Wattson* is sold as the smartest character, by far, in the game.
It is Lore wise.

Literally described as that by writers. Normal smart person, but nothing extraordinary.
Past *Wraith* (i will have to make the correction) was the pointman and leader of the _Phase_ technology project.
Not only alien, ancient tech, but also physics bending stuff.
*Amer Singh* just took the project after she experimented on herself.
So yeah, past *Wraith* might have been a _mini-Horizon._ Just like human *Ash*
I think id put rampart up there with ash because mechanichal engineering and design, and 4dementional projectile calculations are incredibly complex

For me this seemed obvious. If I had a child then of course I would like my child to take over my company and in order to do that you gotta teach your kid about business and what not. That's probably why Octane likes to do dangerous things because he was probably sick and tired of doing and living in a boring and uneventful life style

It's also fair to say that Duardo is one of the richest men on one of the richest planets. Psamathe is below one of the hottest resorts known to the outlands, and is a business tycoon capital.
Duardo would no doubt have gotten his son the best education money could provide, especially knowing he had hoped his son would one day take over his business.
Octavio has never showed himself to be dumb. Just wreckless.
We also forget that in the titanfall universe, genetic manipulation is probably pretty easy for a pharmaceutical company. So maybe the reason why octane isn’t dumb is because his dad did a little changing to him

Okay a small detail to back this up they never mention who made the jump pad and octane being a genius would make sense. I mean he created a small pad about as tall as a child that can launch people carrying heavy equipment several meters. Lets take rampart with a purple bag for example first she has a big mountable turret that she just carries around literal walls like yeah they fold up but that's still a giant hunk of metal and somewhere she is storing all the ammo for said turret. Then she can carry like 40 packages of heavy ammo on top. So yeah the jump pads cool.

@@Reeses7501 the stim is slower, you take more damage but you get the stim back fast also the healing is slow and the jump pad is not as good. I never said he’s unplayable I just said they needed him a lot
