  • Brian and I joined Anthony Barbour as well as Guy Spiher and his son Evan on a kayak run down the Uwharrie River. We put in at Low Water Bridge and took out at the NC 109 Bridge. The Eldorado gauge was reading 2.82'. Breakfast at the Eldorado Outpost started the day off right! We had perfect weather and great company. Come enjoy a great little river!

Uwharrie has been on my list for a while now to hit up for hiking or camping, but thanks to this video I'm going to add paddling as a goal. I've driven over the Baden Lake bridge on 49 many times and thought the area just seems so gorgeous and unspoiled. Thanks River Kings for clueing me into the pleasant-looking little Uwharrie River! I'm reading up on it in my Paddling Eastern NC guide now!

Love watching your videos I got in a sit on kayak two years ago I know have 6 different kayak and we paddle 14 to 20 miles once or twice a week . I was very lucky as I met a lady who's been doing this 35 years and she has been teaching me everything she knows at 60plus years old she don't do white water unless by accident I'm not sure if I want to do some of what I see you guys doing but iv learned almost as much watching you guys as I have from her thank so much for your videos

I was kayaking the Uwharrie River 25 years ago - way before most paddlers knew about it. I kayaked it twice a week for a decade and almost never saw another kayaker or canoer on it. The gold dredgers were there, and rarely friendly, but that was about it. It's still nice, but the new access points have managed to put a lot more people on the water these days. Good and bad I suppose...

So glad you all had a great trip. The name of the shoals where you stopped for a break are called Ledger Shoals of the Uwharrie. The slate stone picnic table area is part of Grand Overland District - (GOD), a private farm owned by our family. On the Grand Overland we train mostly military and some civilians in four wheel drive operation, and have some of it as farmland. The picnic area is used for events, meals during training, church gatherings, community events and private events like family outings, weddings, celebration, etc. You can find out more info. about that area at thegrandoverland.com River users are free to stop for a short rest or a picnic, we just ask to leave only footprints and take only memories of the beautiful God given area. PLEASE leave no trace in the wilderness. Enjoy, learn and love the out of doors.

This generous spirit and faith in people's goodness is so refreshing, Julie. Having paddled large sections of the upper Cape Fear where places to stop are rare, I understand how valuable landowners such as yourselves are to paddlers. And I teach my boys exactly what I learned growing up: leave things at least as good as you found them. In the outdoors as in life.

I can go from Low Water to Dennis Rd in as fast as 5 hours and as slow as 8 hours. All depends on water depth and speed plus how much paddling you do. It’s about 14 1/2 River miles. In try to do it every month.

Yes, just a note. Might add a comment about taking care of the land, especially private property, so our access to areas remain open. Someone carved a dozen initials in one tree, and hacked several trees at the Ledger Shoals middle of May, 2020. What a disgrace to deface a beautiful area.
