Onslow was awesome .
I love the ending, where Onslow is like you got to admire that stiff upper lip (very British) and her family starts applauding her. And she in turn does a regal wave back to them as if she is the Queen.

PrincessofErised that is my line when Onslow says that. You can imagine someone throwing Hyacinth in a lake.

This is one of the best episodes (another is when she climbed over the wall so Elizabeth wouldn't see Daisey & Onslow's ghetto residence.). Truly this was a heaven sent miracle for the Vicar to see. Just too funny.

How could you not love Onslow's response?? I looked forward to all of his responses when I watch the shows. He was awesome. He did comedy the best. Not many could ever replace him or for certain be him. The casting manager must have saw Geoffrey Hughes's talent and thought yes, you'll make a fine Onslow for the show were doing, thank you 😀😀 They picked the icing on the cake with him. He has appeared in Heartbeat the show with Nick Berry as a P.C. There sure was never a dull moment while Geoffrey was still with us. Him and Patricia are mostly what make the show besides Clive Swift, also 😀😂💜 Rest up now Geoffrey and Clive. Cancer is a horrible bi%ch of a thing to go through and lose to it 💔💔😔😔

I just love this show. Somehow I found this show on PBS in the United States when it was already old. Been hooked ever since.
Yeah I always watched it after the Antiques Roadshow. That's also how I discovered Doctor Who.

@@birdyfilovingheart6365 only Onslow has a genuine Northern accent as his actor was from Merseyside as is Patricia Routledge. Josephine Tewson (Elizabeth) is also a northerner but speaks with an RP (posh) accent

@@deanmottershead9208 Don't get too nostalgic, there was plenty of stuff on TV that probably wasn't worth remembering. We all like to think TV or movies or music was just better back then, but the truth is, it wasn't necessarily the case. Plenty of great stuff still being made, plenty of new stuff to challenge us a little. If you like old fashioned comedy then perhaps you won't find much of interest these days, but there's still many a great laugh yet to be had.

My sister and I discovered this show on BBC years ago. It aired on Saturday night. When it ended we would call each other laughing hysterically, and discussing the high points. Several years ago I spent almost $160.00 to buy the entire series on DVD, and you guessed it. I loaned it to a friend who never returned it. And I haven't seen that friend in years. But I have put a price on their head!

My local PBS hasn’t shown any English comedies for years. I sure do miss them.
I have learned the hard way too. Don't lend things out anymore. I didn't get the items back or it was damaged.

When I first saw this episode in the late 90s on my local PBS station, I learned of the existence of the word "riparian."

I have a little sob each time I see her. She was the spitting image of my late mum, and similar in age too. Patricia was born in 1929 and mum in 1927. Mum dressed like her, and used to wear clobby heeled shoes and hats and gloves and same flat bag to church on Sundays. Difference was mum was not a snob. Mum was a nursing sister. But boy did she look like her and even the voice was similar.
The audience in this episode was so perfect too lol especially that one extra loud one you hear throughout the episode

I’m an American who has watched this show since high school (I’m 29 now), anyway I recall loving this episode but couldn’t recollect much of it since it’s the last season so I’ve seen it the least. I’ve recently been watching all the way through and finally got to this episode, this didn’t disappoint lol. My favorite is that one lady in the audience who is loud throughout the episode but reaches her peak here. One of my favorite episodes

@@stuartcanavan5730 Outwardly, Richard had to pretend to commiserate with Hyacinth but inside I'm sure he was laughing up a storm at the poetic justice of it all! HYACINTH was all wet in real life it was fitting that for putting all of those people in her orbit through such an ordeal she literally became all wet!
Yeah, but he got wet as well as Hyacinth. Poor guy, I feel so bad for him. Being married to Hyacinth, no wonder he gets into trouble.
