    100%, if it smells like hay going in the turkey bag it likely needs to lose some moisture. Lot of burping

    I think a lot of beginner growers read too far into a lot of the grow guides out there and spend too much time focusing on the trichome color before they verify other factors of the grow that indicate the plant is ready to harvest. This results in early harvests and bad tasting buds.

    • @ReapingTheHarvest
      @ReapingTheHarvest Před 2 měsíci +8

      If it smells like hay before you trim, you need to let it hang dry longer. Trust me. When you think it's ready wait a few more days. It should never dry for less than a week. 2+ weeks is ideal but I understand some people live in dry areas. People rush the jaring process and that is the #1 cause of hay smell. If you hang long enough you don't even need to burp.

    100% grew a plant two years ago in back garden still grew over a ft tall and produced 1 1/2 ounces just cut it too early but was forced to due to harsh weather conditions and going on holiday. Was some white widow aswell would have been great grinding it up still produced a pungent smell but when smoked just tasted like grass and could tell the terpines had not developed properly. But this no previous experience and just a bit water with added sugar and basic soil, think the turn out was pretty decent as a first attempt the amount of knowledge you learn is incredible, hopefully for many more in the future 👌

  • @kmonty6188
    @kmonty6188 Před 2 měsíci +8

    hmmm. This is odd. I have cured buds many ways. The only time I got a hay smell was when I dried the buds too quickly and what I though was ready for jars was actually still too moist internally and then it became a battle. However, the buds that I let dry properly at about 61% humidity and about 68 F have continued to have quality smells and taste. The tough part is understanding what the correct moisture level of the bud you are trying to jar or bag. Im almost certain incorrect moisture levels are the culprit and because I have tried many methods and my results continually pointed to moisture control prior to jarring the nugz.

    • @bannacis5878

    60% humidity and 60 degreesF or as close to as possible… so a dark room with air conditioning, a dehumidifier, and a fan. Hang small branches and test for a dry snap on stems about a week in and compare the smoke flavor after 10 or 12 days dry 👍🏽

  • @MrMCKlebeband
    @MrMCKlebeband Před 2 měsíci +5

    dont overdo the initial dry.
    when burping jars, you want the RF in the jar to climb to 65-62% before you burp,
    once it does not climb past 58% between burps any remaining hay smell is here to stay.
    so: keep it over 58 until the hay smell is gone (i recommend over 60) ( over 65+ = mold risk! )

    Hey Mark Happy 4th Brother! And i had NO IDEA about this! Thanks alot for the info. So what would you suggest to do about this bro? Aside from growing an unhealthy plant I didn't think the trics were effected unless you like let the plants trics amber out to the point where they start to degrade, but this cannibalism by the plant is very interesting and have always been told they stack on more trics as they mature and get closer to harvest! Man i may have missed something bc im confused as hell so im going to rewatch it! But all those bloom boosters and what not that claim to add terps and oils torwards thast few weeks of harvest is BS and a waste of money? Bc Imo its not good smoke without the smell and taste. It just takes away from the whole enjoyment and experience and tend to be harsh as hell on the lungs as well. If my smoke is terpless then im definitely doing something wrong! And the last thing you want to do is screw everything up in the end and waste all that hard work and time it took to get her to that point by not drying and curing your flower correctly! 💯👌😎🤘
    Also Brother what is the email i send to, to get that "Drops of Balance" bc i want to start using it on my next grow if possible man. Thanks in advance and appreciate all you do for the canna community

    I get the hay smell every time I dry but it goes away and by the end of 2 weeks drying to jar, its gone. You dont want the plants to smell like terpenes while drying, this is a sign the temperature in the drying room might be too high. After jarring and burping the jars smell dank, especially if handing the buds.

      Nonsense. You are making stuff up. The hay smell is hexanol/hexanal from hexanoic acid, the precursor to cannabinoids and Marijuana's distinct hexanoate esters. If your bud smells like hay, you don't know how to produce Marijuana and will not be doing so under schedule 3.

    the hay smell if from stress plain and simple, usually it occurs if your temps and humidity fluctuate many times during grow and harvest , like you might move and not be able to burp the jar and keep the natural environment the plant wants and is trying to make for itself. Even if you chop the plant will always try to colonize its environment in some ways , thats just how plants work , they do it too the planet earth!

    I’ve been growing for like a decade or so now and never had a hay smell, if your weed has a hay smell ever, you’re doing it wrong and should either invest in some hvac equipment or just buy weed instead. It’s a super easy to grow plant, it’s also easy to process after harvest it takes not even 5 minutes of reading to know you should keep a dry cool and moderately humid because aromatic compounds are volatile and begin to off gas at “room” temperature.

      This youtube grow guru is a fake. Cannabis flavor comes mostly from the lipoxygenase pathway and amino acid degradation. So do the effects. Terpene synthesis is only useful for methyl branched hemiterps that will attach to SH from aminos. None of the vape pen Leafly poster terpenes that potheads talk about are relevant to flavor or effect at all.
