After our Taylor Swift Coldplay mash-up, lots of people wanted more song combos. This led us to the creation of a cool hip hop/classical mash-up, but again we could not get permission. Instead of scrapping the great ideas, we used them to create an original tune. You will hear influences and inspiration from other artists. Try and guess them.
On the recording, Steven Sharp Nelson laid down over 100 tracks including cello textures never known possible. Every single sound on the video was made using only the instruments shown: piano, cello, mouth percussion and kick drum. We utilized some cool effects on lots of stuff...for example the U2-style delay on Steve's pizzicato at the beginning.
The extra string on the electric cellos (the black cello has an extra high string and the white cello has an extra low string) allowed us to cover the full range of the orchestra. The deep bass drum sound is a bump on the body of the cello with a little help from some effects. The shaker sound was created by Steve rubbing rosin on his bow. The record scratch is Steve scratching a quarter on the strings...you get the idea.

I discovered this song in August 2011, after my cousin died. After hearing it, for the first time in weeks I had a smile on my face. Thought she would enjoy this and the conversation between the instruments. Since then, every year, I'd return to this song and introduce it to another person going through a difficult time.
Today, another person fell in love with it, and me with her. Thank you for the magic.

Me too. I get it that artists have to evolve, and I really like the new stuff, but I wish they would occasionally make one of these again.
When I was in high school I went to local and state competitions and got gold metals, however I was singing not playing in instrument. But in choir we learned a lot on Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc. My senior year in high school I sung with the MSO (Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra) here in Wisconsin. I can honestly say it was the best day of my life. This brings me back to my high school days. Thank you Piano Guys. I absolutely love your music and you keep bringing back the thing that was and still is important in my life. God bless you both.

Just saw Piano Guys in Concert at the Greek. They put on a varied, generous, interesting, and romantic show that included many mashups of classical and popular songs and lots of showmanship and humor. Kudos to all of their beautiful cinematography, sound, and editing . . oh, and don't forget the lighting guy.

One evening last year I watched a video of the piano guys in concert in AZ surrounded by the red rocks. It was amazing. The cello was so soulful that I cried. I knew it was the instrument I needed to play. I saw them in concert last month at the Dr Philips Performing Arts Center in Orlando Florida. I've been playing the cello for a year now and I still cry when they play the "cello song!" You guys ROCK!

I honestly thing that in music at highschool, this is a way of getting kids interested in music.. they dont have to be playing one genre, they are not confined to any one style. my music classes were not very broad, just a whole lot of fur elise nobody was allowed to really explore the music... how did I start to fall for Classical Music? The Bond Quartet.
