    My favourite Bond. Lazenby was only 29. Young generation must learn how to look at his age, speak, move, think and behave. Someting inside was so strong in George Lazenby. With respect

      The thing is: Lazza was a hippie at heart. Bond was just an acting job. He proved he didn't like behaving the suave gentleman, by turning up at promo junkets in a scruffy beard and long hair. He wanted Bond to move with the times, with the counter-culture generation. So don't get fooled by his acting job. He was a good guy, but he was not on board with the whole Bond ethos.

      @mrswozzle Před 4 lety +6

      Jon Dunmore disagree. He paid for his own promotional tour of the movie. He simply wanted to bring Bond into the 70’s and had they listened to him, Lazenby/Bond movies of the 70s would have been stunning..a whole new ball game. But they ended up with Moore and a pretty dismal, forgettable decade.. The very first of his, live and let die, strangely enough had a few real touches to bring Bond into that era but they pissed that away. Should have gone to LazenbySavers..

    I don't think he comes off as arrogant at all; in fact, I'm struck by the candor and self-deprecation in his early interviews and the reflective tone of his more recent comments. What's really interesting to me is that he actually comes off as a bit more Bond-like in the informal interviews than he did in a few of the scenes in the film (which is my favorite Bond movie, incidentally). I think it's a shame he didn't do more Bond films.

      He left the role on his accord due to poor advice he received from his acting agent that the James Bond series would not be successful in the 1970s and should not do a multi picture deal. Lazenby was so inexperienced as an actor that he took the advice and thought he could be successful without James Bond which didn’t make the producers happy when Lazenby was telling others including the press he would be better with out the Bond films. Lazenby was difficult to work with and had cocky attitude which turned everyone off. Lazenby decided to leave the role towards end of production as didn’t like the regime he was put through to be bond and the filming schedules along with the pressures of being Bond after Connery left. Lazenby turned down a multi picture deal which would have made him millions and he was offered to come back for Diamonds Are Forever but refused. All together had Lazenby stayed with series he could have done Diamonds Are Forever and option to do 4-5 more Bond films. Lazenby hurt his acting career by leaving his contract and opting to do the Martial Arts films he did which were low budget films in Hong Kong which he thought he could be successful in and wanted to star with Bruce Lee in movies but Lee died in 1973. Besides the low budget films he did he only made appearances in some tv shows although he was one of actors in the war movie Gettysburg. Lazenby chose to do the low budget film Universal Soldier in 1971 rather then return as James Bond for Diamonds Are Forever.

      Scott Knode a comprehensive but simplistic summation. Lazenby WAS treated like a c*** by the producers and actually IGNORED by the director. They were rude to him even when Saltzman kicked a briefcase of money over to him with his foot and pointed to a contract for him to sign. They were arrogant RUDE b*******, and I THINK it’s important in any aspect of life to be treated with humanity amd respect. The main point however, is that these same b******s sighed his death warrant and ensured that he was blackballed from the entire industry..hence the hong kong film (in which he was portrayed like a c***) and the tiny cameo in Gettysburg.The pieces of s*** who run the industry just love to wield their power, punish newcomers, and teach others the ‘lesson’ of what happens if you dont bow down and suck c**k.

    It's my favourite Bond film by a distance, the best directed (the only one I feel is directed by an auteur) and Lazenby is VERY good. Dialogues are crisp and witty and the Scope photography is beautiful compared to the colourless digital images of today's blockbusters. The score is sublime and I love the costumes. Maybe we miss Ken Adam's imaginative designs but Piz Gloria has to be filmed in a real location and the only one available was the Brutalist rotunda atop the Shilthorn mountain. Personal opinion, of course.

      Lazenby doesn't fit as Bond in O.H.M.S.S. and in the era of comedy/parody that was coming. That era begins with ''Diamonds are Forever'' and finishes with ''Octopussy''. Moore, especially from ''The Spy Who Loved Me'', was the right man for that time (except ''A View to a Kill'' had to play Dalton). Producers didn't come back to Lazenby, as they did with Connery although he said he left the role, and until now with more conventional Bond films, they didn't provide the role of Bond in a model who is no actor and completely novice.

Connery should have bowed out with OHMSS and Lazenby brought in to do a more 70's Bond...that would have been a very memorable decade for the Bond franchise with Lazenby as the best Bond since Connery, And not the 'carry on' movie style that suited Roger Moore.

      jim bob George Lazenby quit the role, he wasn’t fired from playing James Bond. He put in his resignation towards the end of filming On Her Majesty’s Secret Service as he followed poor advice from his acting agent telling Lazenby that the James Bond wouldn’t last into the 1970s. Lazenby thought he could be successful with out James Bond and didn’t like the stress of the grueling film schedules he experienced as a new actor and fame that went with it along with the pressures of taking over from Sean Connery. He quit the role and turned down an offer to return for Diamonds Are Forever which would have been his next film. He had also received a multi picture deal contract to do an additional 4-5 films after Diamonds Are Forever which would have made him millions but he turned it all down and asked to get out of his contract. Lazenby did have strained relationships with producers and director Peter Hunt but it had to do with his own cocky attitude and difficult behavior on set and acted like he was a big star on set and that should been treated like one.

In fact the first thing he did after the film was take acting lessons. Nevertheless, even when Saltzman pushed a briefcase full of money o er to him with his foot while he was still on the phone ust have been the last word in rudeness. In any event, the producers made sure HE NEVER WORKED MEANINGFULLY IN THE BUSINESS ever again. So they most definitely are the ones who are arrogant, power wielding scumbags, and Hunt deserved a failed (at the time) movie for treating Lazenby like a doormat.

Would have made Bond allot more interesting in the 80s for sure, since the Moore era was all gadgets and one liners.

    Looks like a young Cary Grant, and Lazenby generally had an excellent manner for the role, but shouldn't have broken the "4th wall" in the pre-titles scene of OHMMS. Other than that, OHMMS had an excellent tone to it .... And Lazenby and Rigg and Savales were very good in their roles.

    in my Opinion, after probably seeing each Bond Movie, at least average 6-8 Times, but for example on "HMSS" probably 40 times, and for example "Thunderball .. 20 times, and Casino Royal.... 25 times, in my opinion, Nr. 1 is either Thunderball/Goldfinger, Nr.2 HMSS. Nr. 3 Casino Royal, so...... end of Mess. from Prof. James Bond😆😘😊

    Yes, a great movie...but Lazenby was always going to suffer the same fate as all the other actors to follow, being compared to Sean Connery...he and Roger Moore suffered the most which was why Moore played it as a parady of the character.

    I think he was bound to be a bit full of himself when he first got the part because he went from being a nobody to being worldwide famous so its bound to go to your head, its a shame he didn't go on to do a few more because I prefer Lazenby to Roger Moore, he was alot harder and there was no camp humour which Moore brought to the films.

      I doubt that he was that bad. It's the producers and director and Diana Rigg who were the divas treating him like a piece of toilet paper and then flexing their childish powers to make sure "George will never work again because he didn't bow down at all times and behave like an English foot soldier". Their loss and ours.

      P puh6tfrz oh dear. But they DID fuck with the formula..all the way to a short Blond actor playing the role. And may I remind you that a song was used in OHMSS. If a song can be used to emphasise a romantic interlude, so can rock, pop or classical be used to emphasise action.

    • @ppuh6tfrz646
      @ppuh6tfrz646 Před 4 lety +1

      @@mrswozzle You're talking about something that happened 37 years later.
      I think the success of the formula was due to the mix of violence, sex and adventure not the colour of Bond's hair.
      Yes, a song was used in OHMSS but it was a love song and it was appropriate because it was first the time in the film series where Bond fell in love.
      Pop or rock music wouldn't be suitable because, in all likelihood, it would quickly date and neither would they be appropriate in action scenes.

    Lazeby was good looking dude - tall, broad shouldered with a dimple in the chin like Cary Grant, but he is the worst actor ever to play Bond. He was taken when he was not ready for the role and was asked to emote on screen which he could not. He was challenging the producers when he grew a beard right after the release of the movie and God knows why. I heard that Oliver Reed was almost cast as Bond in this movie but the producers felt his image was too strong to be changed to that of Bond. I wish they went ahead with that choice and then OHMSS would have been a classic Bond.
