I just got into it for the very first time and I believe I have about 2 episodes left of season 1.You're right, it is fantastic but I believe once I binge through it I will feel the same way as you feel. I also found a show called Roadies, finished the 1st episode and thought it was great too, of course until I went to IMDB after the episode to read what other people though and saw it was only a season. I have only 1 episode left and hate that basically after tomorrow, I'll never see a new episode of that show ever again. Lol... aww. :(
One of the reasons that Vane could drive Blackbeard back( besides the man’s refusal to kill his all but adopted son) is because of Vane’s left handedness. Like boxing, fencing is mostly about line control, and knowing how to guard your center line and how to manage attacking and defending strikes from inside and outside that line. When fighting right on right, most of the more powerful strikes will come in from what in Blackbeard’s case ( right handed fighter’s stance) is his inside line. He can strike in the incoming direction of that blade moving his sword in a strong parry using the torque of his waist, step and shoulder. When fighting against a left handed opponent, most of their stronger strikes will come in on the right hander’s outside line( from their right). In order to guard or parry, they have to forcibly move their blade away from their own body. Anyone who’s ever lifted weights knows that the further away from your body or center mass you hold something, the more stress and strain it puts on your body. Because left handers often face off against right handers, they have more experience handling strikes from their outside line, and is why it’s often a good idea to learn to fight with your left hand against them since they themselves are unused to the typical inside line heavy game that is a same handed fight that righties are typically accustomed to. Yes, it’s a scripted fight, and obviously many moves are bit more exaggerated and telegraphed, but there is a basis in reality at least for how Vane was able to drive Blackbeard back with those heavy handed slashes from what looks like a hefty saber.
@@virtualworld2231 very true, but Rackham, Vane, and Bonney were close, and Rackham actually died on the gallows at the same time Vane did. its pretty goddamn awesome really

@@antoinedubuisson8940 I mean it's a story that fleshed out all of its characters - that were really well written and meaningful, whilst the plot was written, paced and performed perfectly
Agreed, flint was an accomplished naval officer and damn good pirate. Teach was exceptional and probably might have won, but not without serious damage if flint wasn't nearly starved to death.
Would of been close but I think blackbeard is the best fighter in the series with flint and vane being close 2nd. And of course Billy. And can't forget about the badass samurai pirate that never spoke a word. I really wish he played a bigger role and not just a background character.
Flint just had to aim lower for a body shot, but he went for the head. While both may be potentially same skilled, Flint's physical condition isn't good at that moment, so he would probably lose the saber fight. Contrary to that, BB was years out of buisness and so a little slower and less accurate. The show portrays this quite well. While Flint got a hit with his shot, BB misses completely. BB recognizes, that he nearly died in this moment, that it was basically luck he still lives. But then, in the saber fight, it is quite obvious how Flint just lacks strenght to keep up with BB. Technically he wasn't worse, but he was too weak to win against an equally skilled fighter, although this man may be still a little rusty. Keeping this in mind, Flint knew the gun fight would decide the duel. He decided to directly go for the kill with a head shot, gambling on his skill and recent activity in the buisness. After BB rises, you can see how Flint realises he lost. Well, a body shot with a higher chance to hit would have given him an advantage at the duel, but he was terrified enough from BB that he tried to evade the saber fight completely by going for the kill.
@@veritasaequitas2386 Honesty silver was the most annoying. Betraying flint and Billy pissed me off. I was also kinda mad at flint for killing gates he was a great character. Also mad he killed the samurai.
@Abu Troll al cockroachistan yes but buckshot behaves differently I don't know your experiences but as an American I can tell you buckshot spreads out and loses its kinetic energy much faster than for example a rifle which is why shotguns are generally used as burglar blasters here you will put an ass whooping on the guy in your house but there's less chance of it going through walls and stuff
Abu Troll al cockroachistan they did use shot, of a kind. They’d throw everything they had laying around in the cannons, but the most effective seemed to be chains.
Abu Troll al cockroachistan yep! Lengths of chain fired from a cannon (hopefully) will stretch out in the air. It’s perfect for destroying the rigging and sails, leaving the target ship disabled.

Proper late reply buuut...I think with Vane though he isn't trying to kill Blackbeard. He knows he'll block the blows, he's just making his point about which side he's chosen. Vane was always shown as a more brawling fighter but even by those standards winging the same blow at someone 3 times in a row isn't what you do if you're trying to win. He's just making sure Blackbeard ends the duel, making a point, and probably venting his frustrations at the relationship between the two rather than actually hoping to land anything
