Yes, "embarrassing" is a good word to sum this mess up.
I have enjoyed a lot of B movies even to this day.
This film was really good actually. Lots of nice nods to the classic films and a really enjoyable story will interesting characters.
lets face it, hollywood loves to manufacture movies now a days. they have left behind the artistry of film making.
even (if you hated or loved it) TLJ did the whole "broke old hero" plot better by actually building Luke back up and giving him at least a decent send off, while Indy just wants to give up and die at the end, wat.
The Antonio Banderas commentary was gold. Read 10 mins of the script and then asked to be shot. Lmao
How awesome would it have been if Indy went on the adventure with Antonio Banderas and Sallah? Instead, it’s Indy and lady and some kid who can magically fly despite never having flown.

Just marathoned the original 3 IJ movies. That final shot of them riding off into the sunset really is classic. It was already the perfect way to end the series.
I won't lie, with as much problems Crystal Skull had, it was a solid ending too with Indy finally settling down with Mary after a life of adventure, and even having a kid. It also showed some amusing parallels with him and his father in the Last Crusade
The series did end with the sunset, no other movies were made and they will never make more....

@@criert135 It doesn't, I'm just sharing my opinion of your opinion. If the movie was good it wouldn't be flopping miserably. So like, WAAAAAY more people didn't like it.
As a devoted fan of Indiana Jones series, my heart is bleeding. Tbh I have absolutely no idea how people can say that this is better than the crystal skull. Despite some stupid monkey-swinging crap, aliens and poor CGI, that movie had soul, gave Indy a respectful and climactic send off and was actually enjoyable to watch. Maan even if you didn't like Shia LaBeuf, he at least had a distinctive character with obvious flaws to be ironed out throughout the movie - we saw him grow into being a hero and at the end, I could see him carrying some future movies as the lead Indy successor. This lady's character however seems so empty, dead and uninteresting. She starts off by leaving Indy to die, then for whatever reason decides "nah, now I'm gonna save him, why not" and Indy is supposed to be fine with it. No character arc, no likeable qualities, she's just great at everything, ACCEPT IT... Instead of giving that character any depth, anything for the audience to relate to, making her HUMAN, they gave us a plastic mannequin of a protagonist. If they depicted Indy as her mentor, passing the hat onto her, showing her "the ropes", making her realise what truly matters in life, it would have been 10 times better. Say at some point he's ready to sacrifice himself to save her life, leaving the dial behind and maybe that's when she realises that it's not all about the treasure and money, but the people around you or something (which is really the core of being THE Indiana Jones - that's how he differs from all the villains in this series) - literally anything! Anyone can come up with something like that in 2 seconds and I think it's way better than what the writers did here which is pretty much nothing xd. She becomes a good guy all of a sudden and that's it really - there you have it, now you're supposed to cheer for her. Throughout the movie you have this strange feeling that she can stab Indy in the back at any point, you don't trust her as an audience member and it just makes the whole thing uncomfortable to watch. Apart from that, the action scenes are decent, the de-aging is fine and believable for the most part (and that's the main reason the first 15 minutes of the movie are actually very enjoyable), the script is an inconsistent mess (you can see it was rewritten several times), the whole ending is a nonsense. All in all, what the actual F? The movie simply made Indy obsolete - a dead weight to carry around. It's even worse than what they did with Luke honestly... F disney, F "THE MESSAGE", F "strong female leads" and destroying iconic, beloved IPs. They've already lost 300 million on "Strange World" and "Lightyear" and are on their way to lose even more with "Elemental". If they had any excuses for messing up those movies, loosing money on a huge renowned franchise like Indiana Jones will be just inexplicable. If that happens, I sincerely hope the shareholders will finally step in to save this sinking ship of a production company. I am done with disney, period.
You are 1000% on the money! Disney can’t write a legacy character to save their life rn.
As a lifelong Indy fan, I feel about the same. I honestly can't see the high praise for DoD, and how people say it's better than KotCS. I mean, the companion was annoying, the Great Value Short Round was forgettable, and the plot had holes upon holes. The only things I enjoyed were the intro, the score, and the villain (at least, the actor's performance with what he was given). KotCS wasn't perfect, by any means, but I feel it still kept the spirit of the older films in a way (at least, to me it did). I mean, how did they keep the spirit of the series in the INTRO, only to immediately lose it? Film wasn't even a 5/10 in my opinion. Shameless milking of one of my favorite series' by Disney.
yeah like I know this is a late response but, but like what's funny is the original film of this trend of these broken hero films, TLJ, I know Luke fans crapped on it, but like it actually had Luke go through an arc where he got better, kept the echoes of his legend going, and dies with his old music that started his adventure. Indy doesn't get any of that treatment, he's just tossed away into the trash heap in favor of the new protag, no lessons to teach her or anything, just die.
The Flash: “I’m gonna be the biggest flop of the summer.”
Indiana Jones 5: “Hold my idol, kid.”
I actually loved The Flash!! I give it an 8 out of 10. Was it perfect, no. Did it need the stupid baby scene at the beginning, god no. Was the CGI pretty bad, yeah! But the story was really good, Ezra Miller did a great job playing two characters! And bringing back three different Batmen was neat and nostalgic! And 89 Batman kicked so much ass! And I even liked Supergirl. Worth seeing! Watch The Flash instead of Indy 5!!
@@graphicsgodI agree that the movie was a fun time and enjoyable. The cgi being bad actually made sense to me in some scenes, but this is not even close.

I wish they'd discover fanfics and just, you know, consume that instead. There are plenty of okay-ish stories for most universes that give people more of what they want (lots of crap, too, but the occasional really good one) without allocating loads of money and resources for a mediocre attempt at a cashgrab.

Indiana Jones and the trip to the neuters
Temple of Doom is the best one out of the trilogy. This is my rankings.
1. Temple of Doom
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark
3. The Last Crusade
The Indiana Jones movies have always had over the top magic and supernatural stuff and ridiculous stunts. People made fun of the refrigerator scene but does anyone think a soldier from the Crusades being alive hundreds of years later is more realistic? Or half the scenes from Temple of Doom? We just used to pick movies apart less and enjoyed them more and our brains don't let us dislike things we were so fond of easily, and today we train our brains not to like anything we find fault with. I saw all the movies for the first time in order at the same time (after Crystal Skull came out) so I didn't have the nostalgia bias and I actually liked Crystal Skull better than Temple of Doom. You can argue some aspects of the new movies don't line up but as far as the scenes being over the top or far-fetched that's always been the case.
The three Indiana Jones films are great!

@@morganyu812he said it was a bad movie
@@Hgh38 no he didn't
I watched the three Indiana Jones films yesterday and they are freakin’ masterpieces compared to modern film.
What do you think of The Crystal Skull?
Indiana Jones 5 is literally almost exactly like the first movie with a few creative variations in-between and I liked it a lot. Crystal Skull is still a horrible movie by any stretch of the imagination. Nuclear bomb throwing Indiana Jones away from the blast using a Lead Fridge safely in the Kingdom of Crystal Skull everyone?
I did too and the second might have been the worst thing I've watched recently. I didn't grow up with these so I don't have the same nostalgia which made it really hard to sit through.
"Compared"...?
The new film is a solid 8/10 in my opinion. The classic trilogy are like 9-10/10s though.
I liked the moment when the girl boss was handing Jones his epic bat and he tossed it behind him into the ocean saying "The adventures must end"
Watched the movie and I think it's the first time I dont agree with you joe.... How this story is different from the Ark of the covenant or the rock that brings life or the saint Grail? I would even dare to say that the story is more plausible than the stuff from the og trilogy. I don't know, I hate KK, I hate Disney but this movie was good.
I'm convinced that the only people that have seen this movie so far are the elderly. And they fell asleep after the first 20 minutes. And that's all they could remember, so they're, like, yeah, it was pretty good.
I enjoyed it.
It’s incredible how Disney just cannot produce a single good movie
Even Marvel has been churning out flops lately.
its all about greed, which kills any new idea, or innovation (original ideas).
@@Gala-yp8nx Marvel needs to die.
What the hell happened to all competent screenwriters? Why no one seems to be able to produce a decent script anymore?
@@PTHYTQV competent writers would refuse to insert the message into their stories
I hear Disney is remaking another classic. It's about a toothless old shark that keeps terrorizing a small New England coastal town. Working title GUMS
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the dog they introduced in Itchy and Scratchy
Real Honest Reviews from AngryJoe and The Crew is why I'm here
15:46 you know its bad when "good guys arent compelling, you are not rooting for them"
Shame to see what happened to Indiana series
Spoiler talk:
I personally would like to see the ending where Indiana didn't came back to the present and stayed in the past, and it'll be an interesting ending since you won't know if Indiana would rewrite history or not for the sake of knowledge, and him being the one in the casket will cause a point paradox repeating a cycle where Indiana was given birth in his modern era, just to die in the past
Harrison Ford is nearly 2 years older than John Rhys-Davies.
Alex's face is the thumbnail is all I needed to know.
I was mildly curious when I heard the 90% audience score on RT so I took a look at some of the reviews and oh my. Some of the 4 and 5 star reviews seem genuine, but when I see stuff like: "The story was well-written (virtually no plot flaws), and the non-stop action was great!", I get highly skeptical.
Fake reviews
They have to be fake reviews. There's no way the audience rates this movie at 90%.
Very much like Jurassic World Dominion
And there are only 500+ verified. It mean less than 1 viewer from each cinema theatre went and wrote review. And any several word review from a person who went through verification process is suspicious as hell.
Rise of Skywalker's audience score was at 86% opening weekend and hasn't changed since. it's definitely rigged.
This makes strike 3 for the *New* LucasFilm, or Kenne-Films, after Rise of Skywalker and Disney+ Willow.
Cartman: "Three strikes, Kathleen, you're out!"
Alex was a lot more talky here, it's nice to see him like this!
The beer helps 😅. Also I think he has better chemistry with that new guy than he dies with OJ
@@aaadesktopdefinitely a different dynamic. I think it might be because OJ is kinda on the quiet and thoughtful side so Alex defers a bit, but it could be then alcohol lol
I didn’t think it was possible for a movie to be worse than Crystal Skull
Honestly I like Crystal skull better than I did Temple of Doom, maybe because I find it more believable to survive an atomic bomb then I find magic and voodoo believable.
Seriously, yes. This.
Crystal Skull is much better in every way.
@@user-gu7me6hy6h I’m def not rewatching Crystal Skull. It’s literally one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.
@@theheardtheoremnot even close.
Alex waited 5 years to interrupt someone in a review.
I like this guy. Have him on more often
OJ made a mistake ....never let others steal your thunder . They are always there to take it from you and tbh he is better than OJ. Even better chemistry with Alex and it shows.
Haven't watched for a while.
Is he new/first time?
That 90% audience is super suspicious. Haven't heard one person say they loved it and it's a huge flop, already beaten out at the box office in just its second week by two much smaller films. Fans hate it, gen x hates it, kids aren't watching it at all...who's the 90%? There's bullshittery at play with that score.
Important note about executive producers: in cases like this where it's a big-budget movie from a big time studio, their purpose is mainly the value of their name. Spielberg has executively produced many films throughout the years like Transformers, Cowboys & Aliens, Men in Black 3, etc., and didn't help in their creative processes at all. But in all of those films' marketing, they made sure to state "From Executive Producer Steven Spielberg". In most cases, executive producers are responsible for getting money, but in these situations, it's for name recognition. So when I see Dial of Destiny is executively produced by Spielberg and George Lucas, I highly doubt they had much input in the creative aspects of the movie. More likely, they are just there to add legitimacy since Indiana Jones is basically their brain child.
If they ever come out with a box-set of Indiana Jones with all five of these movies,s people are going to call it "Oh yea, the Indiana Jones Trilogy and two coasters."
I don't get why a lot of people are hating on this film, so I looked it up on Google, and a big reason why a lot of people didn't like this movie, based off of the Google reviews and reasons, is because a lot of people don't know the Indiana Jones lore. They didn't grow up watching this, they didn't read the books, or watch the previous four films, or the TV episodes that were released from 1990-1994. So a lot of the modern, younger audience who wanted to go into this film without really knowing any of the previous background ... yeah, it would make sense why they wouldn't like it. Because they wouldn't know anything about it! As for me, I grew up with all of those. The TV show, the books, the original four movies; Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. No matter how bad KOTCS was, it sets up the reason for Marion to not be in this film hardly, and why Shia Lebouf's character doesn't show up. It's because his son died in the Vietnam War and his wife couldn't handle the loss, and couldn't handle Harrison having to be strong for both of them, that it drew a wedge between them. I know people in real life that this has happened to. The death of a married couple's child could inevitably cause a divide between parents if one feels like the other isn't grieving as much as they are. Even if they are grieving on the inside while still trying to be strong on the outside. That's basically how it was interpreted. But yes. Definitely yes. This movie was amazing and finished off Indy's journey beautifully. For those that know the Indiana Jones lore, rather than just going into it blind or watching one or two of the other movies. This movie was meant for fans. Hardcore Indiana Jones fans. If you are one, like me, then you will love it! If you aren't, and don't know a lot about Indiana Jones, then..wellll....you might not feel the same way. But I would encourage you to read the books, watch the TV shows, watch the movies. You will see this movie in a whole new light. I guarantee it! It will be like night and day for you.
So I tried to watch this movie.....i could only manage tops 30 minutes. It was so BORING! What an awful sendoff for a beloved character. Of what i did see what really bothered me was the girl. I really didnt understand why she was so nasty and deceitful to Indy. Maybe i'd get that context if i kept watching.....i could keep going but why? I really hated this movie.
I love temple of doom! I still think to this day it's the most underated Indiana Jones movie by far.
100% agree. Recently watched again and it was such an amazing ride.
That's one that ages well as you get older. It's really more of a quasi-horror film, and you really need to be an adult to better appreciate its story and themes. Even taking some of the more graphic elements into account, Raiders and Last Crusade are quite a bit more suited to bring older kids to see since they're straight-up action-adventure films.
Definitely not a bad one. Maybe my least favorite of the og trilogy, but it's still a great movie.
@@cmc5394oparva exactly and its unapologetic about what it is, not afraid about being politically correct. Plus Temple didnt try to remake Raiders it went in a totally different and darker direction.
@@cmc5394oparvaExactly. Didn't like it as a lid, love it as an adult. It was too intense for me back then.
I saw this like 40 mins ago... And I wanted to come here and hear you guys rip it apart!! LOL
How was it?😂
Critical Drinker was ripping it apart too.
Same
The movie is not bad. It’s just not great so everyone is butt hurt.
@@swizzler8053I was ok, wasn’t a master piece but it wasn’t horrible, wasn’t really woke as the goddaughter had the same vibe as other female characters while Jones still the main and was a tuff dude who openly shows her a thing or two
Nah! This channel used to be better.
This is just a bunch of guys who went into the theatre WANTING to hate the film.
I myself went in with very low expectations, mainly due to reviews like this. As the final act got closer I kept thinking they must have F'd it up pretty bad at the end because the movie I had watched till then was nowhere near being terrible??
You are laughing at plot holes? Like the original trilogy didn't have them? How many memorable quotes did it have? Characters with depth?
IJ was always a fun franchise & this movies does have some fun moments in it.
It's by no means a masterpiece but you must have had REALLY HIGH standards to think it's trash.
He used his whip once… ONCE!
Having my childhood hero fade is one thing but blatantly destroying the characters legacy is another. If losing money at Disney is the only thing they will listen to, I hope the cinemas remain dead.
I’ll watch this later but from the thumbnail, especially looking at Alex, I can tell that our worst fears have been realized.
So turns out Kathleen Kennedy isn't just able to utterly ruin and destroy Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and she still has a job, this is utter insanity at this stage that cinephiles will forever remember as the dark ages of cinema
The rating scores are no longer allowed if you put a bad rating.
That first 20 minutes was actually really fun.
At least some movie theaters have a policy that says you can get your money back if your request is in the window of 10-15 minutes of the movie starting. So 20 minutes of fun was intentional so they will get your money.
I hated how dark it was, and that the camera was too choppy and too up close during certain action scenes. Kinda ruined it for me.
Imo Mads Mikkelsen’s character was the best part of the movie, it’s cool how we have two Star Wars characters in an Indy movie now ( Han and Galen Erso)
@@wolfpackflt670 it's 30 min all around me
It was awful. The CG on his face was noticeable, and he sounded too old
The Temple of Doom was frickin' awesome back in the day and still is.
It's better than anything put out by Disney & Lucasfilm in the current age. The Indie movies ends at Last Crusade.
It was when you were a kid, but it's not that awesome now.
Yup. It is weirdly the most true Indiana Jones movie as it leaned more heavily into its pulp roots.
it's the best of the series in terms of pure action
i thought it was almost very good, the ideas were great and the beginning and end set pieces were very fun for the character, the problem is that wombat takes over the movie and indy loses a lot of agency which is not what you want for the hero of an action adventure movie , overall it was fine
hey my body is perfectly fine.. except for that gaping bullet wound..
... when the flaw is massive it wrecks the whole.
Whoa OJ got buffed, got some new tattoos, grew a beard, and dyied his hair.
Imagine saying that Kingdom of the crystal skull is not the worst indy movie
There is No alternative now.
How come. Indie kicked communist ass in that one after two movies against the Nazis.
yeah I wish I had watched Crystal Skull again instead of Dial and I hate Crystal Skull
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has a lot of mediocrity in there... Dial of Destiny is far below that.
I’ve been watching The Making of Indiana Jones and it still amazes me how much time and effort went into everything, from the casting to the sets to the writing. Not to mention it was all done practically.
From the sounds of it, they just went “eh, we’ll CGI it” for like 90% of this movie.
Rotten Tomatoes audience scores mean NOTHING. They are deceptive aggregate scores that don't even take every review into account. Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes range from "I hated it 3 stars" to "popcorn was fresh theater was clean 4 stars" to "it't not perfect but it's fun 5 stars"
"Have you seen Crystal Skull?"
"WHY WOULD YOU?"
Still love the fact, that they filmed 6 endings and with only one appealing to the audience, that's why the movie took one year more to finish.
except they didn't, do you mind explaining the other 5 endings they filmed?
