this is one my favorite / awesome scenes of Starfleet Ops in a undercover / clandestine type take over, such intelligent writing & acting best series of all Star Trek series, DS9 !
Pretty self evident for anyone who's familiar with the show. Add to that the fact that Garak left her/him standing before handing off the rifle indicates he believed the changeling wasn't a threat to him.
The inspection quickly turned into a field test. It performed within design parameters. Also, the gleefully manic look on Garak's face when he's handed the rifle gives one the impression a true sociopathy, cold-blooded killer, is finally given the chance to play his favorite game with his favorite toy. The game is called Kill Everyone as Fast as You Can.
This full scene is probably one of my favorites in the entire series....and there are a lot of great scenes in this series, but Dumar's final monologue at the end is just fantastic.
Sometimes you just need to hem a budget. Plus just think of the White savings those two Jem'hadar no longer need. Clearly Garak was feeling benevolent that day. ;)

They had nobody to sacrifice. Rusot was needed to be alive so he could die at the hands of Damar later. Garak was invincible, and Kira being the main cast character alongside Odo had phaser-proof shielding around them.
Me: "What do you think?" Garak: " It's uncanny and identical." *Fires it* "Aesthetically it's not pleasing" Me: "That doesn't matter" Garak: " Oh you'd be surprised at what a poor choice in aesthetics can be. Some might find it objectionable. One aesthetic might be all the rage today, but then it can go quickly. And then you are out of fashion. Never underestimate the power of aesthetics"
All of these episodes in "DS9: The Final Chapter" arc (save the shameful Extreme Measures - well, I guess they deserved one clunker even then) were MAGNIFICENT. Yes, you can nitpick a bit with nearly every subplot, but most of it still stands up (as does most of the series itself) 15-20 years later. Garak is the definition of an Ensemble Darkhorse. Even when you weren't sure you were rooting for this nondescript guy, you still wondered why the HELL he was still there, and then when you discovered the answer to that question, you were never rooting AGAINST him.
katie9918 What are you talking about? Extreme Measures was one of the best episodes of Season 7. Showed us a lot about the inner workings of Section 31.

Odo: "Hmmmm, if I asked one of these guys for their weapon, I bet they'll actually give it to me. But who should I hand it to?" Garak: **S#!t-eating grin**

That Vorta was already suspicious. If you notice she alerted the JemHadar to block the door. The Founder walking in was the real foil. That JemHadar who the founder spoke was overjoyed at being spoken to by his God. It also explains why no one fired back, can’t risk harming the founder.

Now that is what I call a field test!
Why would anyone want to give Garak a rifle? He's deadly enough as it is~
Because at this point, he was past betraying his friends, and would have gained nothing by doing so but getting killed.
+Deadpool This will do, even if it isn't what he normally does. After all, shooting them in the back is the safest way afterall.
V Guyver But literally what would he have gained by shooting Kira and all? Then he'd have to surive alone instead of having the resources of them being there.
Deadpool Naturally, I meant his enemies, not his allies. That being his federation and cardassian friends here.... as well as anything having to do with honesty.
Why wouldn't they? He's been on the Federation's side clearly and undeniably for a few years by that point. And as the founder was Odo taking her form to carry out that attack, and the Federation and Garak were both working by then to both end the Dominion threat and free Cardassia from them, there's no reason NOT to trust him at that point.
I wish there would have been more screen time for just that Vorta.
She’s pretty hot.
Major Kira was quite HOT the few times the rocked a Starfleet uniform.
+pinoi78 Nana Visitor was always beautiful on that show. Even when under 6 hours of makeup she was still attractive.
Technically she was not major Kyra anymore, she had been promoted to Colonel a while before that scene.
V Guyver
She was but I think her Bajoran uniform didn't look right on her...or anyone for that matter. When she played Natasha in the hollowsweet I damn near lost it. But she does look real good in a star fleet uniform
I can't be the only one who thought Kira looked hot as a Cardassian, though, right?
Right?
I liked her hairstyle in the final season, and the starfleet uniform really worked on her
That explains Garak's weird smile all the time and why he is staring at the founder so much lol
Always loved Garak's odd friendship with Odo
Garak is one of the best characters in any tv series
this is one my favorite / awesome scenes of Starfleet Ops in a undercover / clandestine type take over, such intelligent writing & acting best series of all Star Trek series, DS9 !
The expression on Garak's face 0:44 LOL
Oh Garak, you're such a butterfingers.
"With real 'PEW! PEW!' action noises and no flash supressor, the Dominion plasma rifle works damn well for space-iguana control!"
I believe the correct spelling is plaaarsma.
You cut it before we learn that the "female changeling" is in fact Odo impersonating her!
Pretty self evident for anyone who's familiar with the show. Add to that the fact that Garak left her/him standing before handing off the rifle indicates he believed the changeling wasn't a threat to him.
Shortly after this clip ends you can hear Jeff Steitzer saying "Overkill!"
When you and your buds all roll Nat 20's on deception.
This is why DS9 stands the test of time as a true classic.
I'm sure he learned to shoot like that while he was hemming someone's trousers.
He learned that before he became a tailor. He was trained by people who worked for his father Enabrin Tain.
1:14 the look on garak's face lol
Obsidian Order was the CIA/MOSSAD for the entire quadrant even more efficient than the Tal Shiar.
bluehavencd they even able to Infiltrated and have spy on the Utopia Planitia Shipyard
bluehavencd, I always assume they were the Gestapo and Schutzstaffel rolled into one.
I thought it was an "evil guys test weapon on unsuspecting henchmen" moment. Then I realized it was a takeover.
This full scene is probably one of my favorites in the entire series....and there are a lot of great scenes in this series, but Dumar's final monologue at the end is just fantastic.
I love how he goes from sniveling suck up to bold leader over the course of the series.
With all due respect Odo, what did you expect to happen? Did you expect the gun to shoot confetti?
He probably thought they would lock them in a closet for the trip home or something. Oops.
Probably assumed they would just be stunned. You have to remember he's a security guard, not a soldier.
It's a gun Odo. Not a party popper.
I really need to re-watch DS9.
A typical tailor. Nothing unusual about him.
Sometimes you just need to hem a budget. Plus just think of the White savings those two Jem'hadar no longer need. Clearly Garak was feeling benevolent that day. ;)
1:17 *Over plasma fire* "I think it works!" XD
"SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!"
0:45 Garak’s smile cracks me up, he’s so happy because he knows he’ll get to shoot some enemies soon 🙂
my favorite scene in deep space nine series, just love garak expression and that smile lol, everyone's expression when odo in disguise says "aahh" and kira's eyes and probably was thinking "what the hell" lolol
0:38 when a vegan enthusiast outside a grocery store tries to sell me the effects on meat and bowl movements.
Safety was on the whole time. It was a very poor upgrade.
Garak needed a line like: "Times up." Or "Not today!" Or "I'll buy that for a dollar!"
He did... "Pity. I rather liked him..."
He does. It's "Especially the lies."
That would leave the audience in stitches
Garak's opinion 10/10
Odo better learn the difference between polaron and plasma next time tho. Could save lives
Somebody needs to tell Odo that you need to break a couple of eggs to make an omelet
"Safety is faulty but fires fine."
you find out later the rifle wasnt even charged, they all just died of shock.
@ 1:14 you see Garak switch from spy to assassin, with a look as lethal as that upgraded plasma rifle
1:10 "I think it's a half-gram heavy on the back-end."
I believe that his actual reply was something like, "Pulls a bit to the left," but it's been ages since I've watched this episode, so I might be confusing it with something else or have the line wrong entirely.
@@joespicer2154
Actually, I was quoting Richard B. Riddick there. =D
czcams.com/video/ilG8mzbHNNI/video.html
Kill the Riddick!
Its missing the "Seems to work just fine." assessment at the end.
Garak was the bomb. DS9 was my favorite Trek because of its grit.
Garak looks so happy to be holding that gun
Love that maniacal expression on Garak's face 0:44
Interesting how the vorta female almost instantly detects deception..also garak..sisko...and martok are the best characters in this arc.. plus the founder and ducat
In addition to their poison resistance, the Vorta were bred to spew...and detect...bullshit
the 3rd soldier killed must have been sleeping there is NO way in real life he'd not have reacted in over 3 seconds
They had nobody to sacrifice. Rusot was needed to be alive so he could die at the hands of Damar later. Garak was invincible, and Kira being the main cast character alongside Odo had phaser-proof shielding around them.
Great, this video makes me want to watch the final 10 episodes of DS9, all in one day.
Me: "What do you think?"
Garak: " It's uncanny and identical."
*Fires it*
"Aesthetically it's not pleasing"
Me: "That doesn't matter"
Garak: " Oh you'd be surprised at what a poor choice in aesthetics can be. Some might find it objectionable. One aesthetic might be all the rage today, but then it can go quickly. And then you are out of fashion. Never underestimate the power of aesthetics"
As someone who has probably had to switch clothes to sell different covers, that is actually something he has probably been trained to think.
@@danielhaire6677 Experience taught him. Not some professor.
@@robertpatter5509 So, you don't think that he had training agents who taught him his tradecraft?
+katie9918 Extreme measures was one of the best episodes of the show! I loved all the Bashir and O'Brian scenes
I didn't like Extreme Measures either, it's kind of a love-it-or-hate-it one. Basically every "journey to the center of the mind" episode in sci-fi is WAY too literal for me.
blueray15 m
Garak: "I think it works well."
Odo: "Hmmmm, if I asked one of these guys for their weapon, I bet they'll actually give it to me. But who should I hand it to?"
Garak: **S#!t-eating grin**
That Founder's face looked more annoyed than scared to me.
1:03 The Vorta should have realized something was up. The real lead changeling wouldn’t have asked permission from a Jem’Hadar for anything.
Was going to say that myself and was checking to see if anyone else had.
Even if she thought something was up, it's not like she can really confront a founder.
A changeling is a changeling.
@@bobchipman4473 True. The First would have the obligation to shoot the Vorta for disobeying/insulting a God if anything happened.
I'm thinking he liked it :-)
Where did you learn to operate a plasma rifle like that?!
Garak: Oh, just something I heard while hemming someone's trousers
0:13. "The number of views. OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND!!"
That was Kira's power level of over 9000
NORMIE
Kira looked great in a Starfleet Uniform. I like to Imagine her joining Starfleet at some point after DS9 ended, and taking over for Sisko as captain of the Defiant and Deep Space Nine.
may want to read the ds9 relaunch novels or read the star trek online wiki
@@toomanyaccounts Will those contain pictures of Kira in or out of a Starfleet uniform?
@@jerodast No - First, Vedek, than Kai.
That escalated quickly

That Vorta was already suspicious. If you notice she alerted the JemHadar to block the door. The Founder walking in was the real foil. That JemHadar who the founder spoke was overjoyed at being spoken to by his God. It also explains why no one fired back, can’t risk harming the founder.
We need to have a class on what not to give Garak, you don’t hand the man weapons
What not to give Garak: ANYTHING! Man could kill you with dialogue if he could!
@@Desiremademanifest You Right
Garak should have had his own show or novels
I bet he’s done some real dark stuff
Kinda like that we don’t know
That’s the fun
look up the star trek ds9 novel "A Stitch in Time"
Andrew Robinson who plays Garak literally wrote his own Garak novel, so I guess you're in luck :)
