It's his post basketball "career" (of course its a job and I'm not meaning to downplay the hard work he puts in.... I just get the feeling he genuinely lives for this regardless of the paycheck, which is awesome) that will truly cement his legacy. He's stayed extremely relevant and present in a positive way for decades.
Barkley was bigger on the court in my opinion. He might be entertaining and hilarious now, but he was entertaining and hilarious and quotable then as well. The difference was that everything had a competitive edge and a bit of nastiness back when he was playing. Barkley was always a big personality, but I still prefer the basketball Barkley to the more lovable post-basketball Barkley.
Bird wanted to posterize a brother or 2 in the last seconds. Lol. Can't hate him for that. He wanted to beat the best defenders when the game was on the line.

I think part of Bird's popularity among sports fans centers not simply on his achievements but on his personality...I mean, where are the Magic Johnson stories? The Michael Jordan stories? LeBron? These guys were all intense but Bird had a sense of humor about things.
Jordan has a lot of stories, against Pistons, Knicks, Pacers, against guys like Mutombo, Olajuwon, a lot of their stories are even more famous than Bird's. Magic never had any rivalries or beefs other than Bird, they were natural champions, and Magic only saw the game as fun, he didn't provoke or pick fights like the rest of his generation, except for Jordan when he joined. Maybe that "white guy" is Bobby Jones at the time when Sir Charles was in Philly. Bird's already retired when Charles moved to Phoenix. Unless, that story occurred in 1992 Olympics.
I think Barkley's post basketball career is equal (if not better) than his basketball career. He's a great personality

It’s not just a funny Larry Bird story, it’s the way Barkley said it that made me fall off my chair 😂😂😂😂
Only time you will ever hear Sir Charles Barkley say “I had no comeback”. #LarryLegend
He had no comeback when mike tyson said on tv that he was gonna kick his ass 😭
His delivery of the story is immaculate
This is my favorite Bird story
Look up Terrell Brandon's bird story.
I’m a fan after his career. Dude is hilarious
The crew was laughing midway through that question about him talking trash

Andrew Toney did a decent job for the 76ers early on
