    "One [candidate] was Tablo and the other was RM. But the reason I didn’t ask Tablo and went straight to RM was because I thought that Namjoon would do a good job. And he had a very firm stance too. When we discussed this song, and when he asked what the theme was, I just sent him the lyrics [verse 1]. And I told him to write whatever comes to his mind. And he said, "if it doesn’t work out, you can get someone else to write it". … At first, he seemed to feel burdened. … He asked if it was OK for someone with vested rights to talk about such things. And I told him that he could write that in his lyrics. … *The lyrics turned out really well. "A round nail stuck in a square hole". Wow, this is something that only Kim Namjoon could write. I was amazed when I read the lyrics. I thought that he did a really good job. And that I did a good job in asking him. That’s what I thought." - Yoongi a.k.a. SUGA a.k.a. Agust D [V LIVE]*

    The round nail in a square hole was probably a reference to Instagram logo, especially since just before that RM said 'My Feed explains me.' Their word play is always just amazing with them. You pick up so much breaking down the lyrics. I don't see many reactors doing that. Thanks

      @ashonline77 Před 2 lety +31

      @@taesfilter3026 personally i believe its both. its a double entendre that says "someone/ something being stuck in a place where they don't fit doesn't make sense to me" and at the same time also a reference to Instagram logo cause he talked about how people say "my feed explains me" RM always makes doubles like this where he's like looking at something we all see from a different perspective. most people don't think a round nail stuck in a square hole when they see Instagram logo but most people also don't break down things like "re-spect" (to look again) from "respect" either.

    • @Taeallday802
      @Taeallday802 Před 2 lety +2

      I think y’all are reaching only for the fact they do nothing on Instagram. I think they just mean square peg round hole meaning someone who does not fit. Suga says all the time he was greedy for the trappings of wealth, but is it worth it. They have to change everything about themselves, have to be perfect, can’t date. All’s so we will love and support them. It’s tragic.

      5:28 here i don't think what he said here is wrong,
      but if you read that line in Korean, it's more like "people who are rich even thirst after 'poverty' itself"
      (=which means they try to pretend they're poor, they try to pretend like they are not rich, and they try to get what the poor people get for their poverty and be treated the same way as normal(or maybe poor) people, although they are rich as hell)
      Just wanted to tell u guys..😅

    • @ashonline77
      @ashonline77 Před 2 lety +9

      @@Taeallday802 it would definitely have been a reach if the " my feed explains me " line didn't exist. at that point he is clearly talking about social media and then the line in question follows. the line itself "round nail stuck in square hole" does mean not fitting. but it could very well be a double like I explained. rappers do this all the time, especially bts themselves. you can find stuff like this in a lot of their raps. where one line mentions something and then the next line would talk about something else while referencing something related to the previous line.

      exactly. It drives me mad that peeps have ONLY listened to their 3 Eng songs where they are trying to break into/make a statement to the Eng (but mainly american nonsense inc billboard and scammy etc) and think they can judge BTS. The reality is they have NO idea about BTS's intelligence, attention to detail, their long and hard history, their commitment to excellence in vocals, rap, dance, lyrics, music, their song writing, word play, addressing social issues and government, and real emotions and real art. Sigh. Ooh the lyrics - society has you under control... Dog collar and dog house competing... Seriously. Someone needs to pay attention these lyrics.

    "Strange" always reminds me that when BTS discussed "The Matrix" and Neo's choice of pill, Suga said that he would give up his comforts and illusion of safety (trying not to spoil the movie here for the youngest).
    When asked by the others why he would do that, he simply said that someone has to (to save others), and that's why.
    I just think it reflects his preference for truth, justice, freedom and equality (like in "Strange"), and also his mindset that he won't just expect "someone else" to do what's necessary in his place.
    He'll "step up to the guillotine" for others.

    I will never shut up about what a strong song this is. Just questioning everything, not giving its listener the answer direct but making them think & wonder about everything. Seeing the world with new eyes, things that are Strange which you'd have never given much thought otherwise. God I love them for being so versatile & having such deep thoughts. SUGA said on his vlive when talking abt the behind for D2 that RM first had doubts on if he should do the song thinking wouldn't it be hypocritical of him criticizing the system when he can be considered as part of the rich top of the system so SUGA said then write that, whatever your thoughts are just write it so that's why it can explain why RM decided to write the line it doesn't matter whether you are rich, you're still a slave to the system. And now we have this deep introspective song where they compliment each other yet at the same time feel a bit contradictory with the sick & unsick, eyes open or closed, the polarization flower SUGA saying is ugly but RM saying well it has already bloomed hasn't it? Even the line about one who wants peace & the one who wants war, are both at the opposite ends of their ideal but possibly want to achieve the same thing only with different means. They completed each other so well. Argh I can just keep on going about what a genius song this is. Truly applaud Agust D & RM on this, they created a unique song of a masterpiece that you don't see most, if any artist talking about.

    I truly appreciate how you picked up on how in it's original language, the track is even more impactful (in Korean). You're absolutely right, Agust D/Suga/Yoongi's word-play and ability to arrange the lyrics to tickle your senses, his dynamic flow, uniqueness that's apparent in his cadence, are just a few factors that play into Agust D's greatness. It's why he's known as a lyrical genius. He produces masterpieces ontop of that. I mean, how many people can say a RINGTONE took you on an emotional journey? I'm talking about his amazing collaboration with Samsung: "Over The Horizon", of course. There's an interview with BTS where the other members have to guess what each member's answer is to a given question. Yoongi was asked: "If you could re-do any songs you've produced in the past, that you aren't 100% content with the results, which one would it be?" The other members knew instantly, one even said: "Remember, to know the answer, you have to think Yoongi's standards." It's no surprise the rest of the team got it right.... Yoongi's answer was: "None." This shows he is a perfectionist. He doesn't produce anything that's below his high standards and executed with his heart and soul poured into it. He had a couple people outside of BTW for the 2nd part, but knew there was no one better than RM in the end. There behind the scenes stories on how Yoongi told RM to go back and redo the lyrics a couple times lol. Those two genius's (RM has an IQ of like 148 (!!!!!!) and he was top 1% in the nation for academics) their teamwork is inspiring.

    In chinese the letter for flower is "to become" which is the same way flower is written in Korean, so polarization a flower that has become or in RMs verse Polarisation the flower that has already bloomed. BTS from the beginning of their career have been speaking truth no matter how hard it is to put out there. "No More Dream" Don't let others dictate your dreams and your expectations for the future, you make your choice then work towards that end. "NO" Don't allow the expectation of your parents and teachers to push you into doing things you do not want to do again a song about making your own choices and living up to them. "Dope" I work hard all day and night to hone my craft, no matter what others tell me I will work to suceed, "Fire" take your time be yourself be the youth that you are because its not going to come again. "I Need You" You are my friend and I need you, so don't hurt yourself, don't let others hurt you because to me you are important. All these issues and more were things that BTS were told that they should not write about, yet they did and were suceessful with this music. He has written about peace, he has written about love but after 8 years they still think BTS are the crazy ones, they did it for the money some say. Isn't it strange.

They make you THINK and hopefully open your eyes to different opinions and not just western society's multiple choice options which almost never include "non of the above". So yes, isn't it strange how BTS comes into your life. I feel you will produce new music with the same sense of sensibility and I look forward to seeing you grow as an artist as well.

    This one made my head hurt the first time I read they lyrics. They are encouraging us to question everything happening around us, our society, our world. Too easy not to, but we have to. Are we one of the unsick, which makes us strange? Or isn’t it strange that we are un-sick. Help!

    Most of bts songs makes me think that our world needs BTS. Their rise in the music industry is important, which also the reason why armys fought hard to make them heard, noticed and recognizable. We want to spread their messages. It has been the goals of bts and armys since the beginning. I've said this million times, but bts is more than just music, we are here bcs of the values/ messages they try to put out. I had to do some research to fully understand their message to the song, mind boggling. Many of us said bts make songs for the intelligent, bcs they made us think and reflect. Good for my brain. And we pity people who dont try to understand what bts are trying to deliver through their music just bcs its in a language they dont understand. Shows how people are ignorant. I love this reaction, and im glad you try to look for more than 1 possible meaning to the lyrics. love your reaction as always! these guys keep giving you goosebumps right??

    You said that for eg, using a mobile phone is us being part of the system. Imagine someone above the age of 20 not having a mobile phone. They'll be treated differently by everyone saying "oh who doesn't have one in today's gen". AgustD is saying isn't it strange that they are treated differently but RM says he ain't surprised that they are treated differently because it has become a norm - to be sick in this sick world - that if anybody is different people are made to believe that they are weird, and so are treated differently or like a freak. That's why AgustD said that the world is so sick that even a person with their eyes open will end up blind (silenced/ assimilated)....while RM said that the world is so sick that it's really strange someone even managed to have their eyes open in the first place!
    Also you saying "if you don't choose an answer, you're still choosing. you're choosing not to choose an answer" reminds me of when RM said in his song moonchild "Even the thought of not having a thought is a thought".
    "Capitalism injects a morphine called ‘hope’ as collateral for dreams"
    AgustD is saying that hope is a drug but that capitalism spoon-feeds you this idea of how you can follow your dreams but at the cost of something. You know how collateral is something of value a lender could take away if the borrower does not uphold their side of the agreement
    An army pointed out how it reminds them of the paradox that is pandora's box. hope was the only thing left at the bottom of the jar after all the monsters that plague humanity escaped from it. but what does that mean? does that mean humans have never felt hope? does that mean hope is a monster too?
    "Wealth breeds wealth and tests greed The wealthy even prey greedily on the poor"
    This is about how the rich bashes on the rich and chases more greed, yet at the same time they long for the simple life in poverty. We live in two extremes, those who have and those who don't... When one gains another loses which isn't right if you think bout the state of the world.
    "In each of their chicken coops, everyone claims they are fine"
    [copied from genius] Here, chicken coops refers to a system of labor, in which the wealthy profit the poor, the chicken owned and caged (animal/ human) being the metaphore for the controller/ controlled or master/ servant relationship… basically how the whole capitalist system works.
    In the movie “The White Tiger”, chicken coops are a metaphor to being trapped in a cage, the door is left open, but you dumbly stay in the cage because you wouldn’t know how to survive outside. This is how our economy works, to be able to live and afford food, housing and safety, we are trapped into a money system we do not own and rarely understand, and we think we are fine with it because we were taught to behave and think that way.
    It is also a way to talk about mass production, the image of the chicken coop as the animals all crowded into this small space where all they do is lay their eggs all day… our working system is based on production too (the capitalism benefiting from supply/demand).
    "People are busy boasting about their dog leashes and dog houses"
    Dog Leashes is a metaphor in korea for things that tie people down from being free. People also brag and post luxury items on social media. In that sense 'Dog Leashes' is literally dog accessories to brag about and as well as metaphorical 'Dog Leashes' that proves how we're controlled.
    Btw hwa doesn't only mean flower but also anger

    I can totally relate with the verse "if there's a god, tell me, whether life is joy". I used to wonder about life and this fallen world just like Suga and RM. That's what took me to church, me trying to find the answer from God. The church taught me that all the answer is written in the bible. Well, I still haven't found the answer yet. Maybe there is no answer as RM said. The world seems too corrupt and to me God doesn't do much about it. However, I still want to believe that God exists and his purpose is good.

    Watching Anthony's mind being blown away is turning into one of my favorite past times lol! I like watching you tease out the meanings within the lines. It's really satisfying when reactors do that. The members have amazing talent and their perspectives are so thought out and brutally honest. I love them for that. That is one of the things I think is missing the most from American pop music and media. But music and media are global now and I am no longer limited too my own countries offerings. Is it any wonder that people from around the world have gravitated to BTS, where the lyrics actually mean something? To media outside of our the US as well. The authenticity that BTS offers is unmatched in most places. I love them sm!
