  • French noob explains how to fix your Butane zippo lighter correctly. It should light up every single time when fixed.
    TLDR in Text version:
    1) check the spark from the igniter happens near the gas out, else, bend it a bit towards it until that happens. You can see the spark by just clicking the button so check until its there. It won't light up well until that's done and it tends to come a bit far off from factory (QA issues probably)
    2) turn the insert upside down and let a bit of air out - not all the air! The gas is liquid so this ensure the air is at the top and you just need to remove air. Put some gas back in. Remove air. Put gas again, repeat a few times. Compressed gas (liquid) should start coming out, you'll see it looks white isntead of translucent. That means you have no more air. If you keep topping it up eventually you should just get liquid gas pourring out and evaporating (see video)
    3) wait for the lighter to be back to room temperature, cold butane will not light up. Because the gs is in a plastic insert behind the metal casing, its hard to warm it up quickly. A BIC lighter in comparison works just the same but is made of plastic, so heats up seconds after you pick it up so that it works fairly well even when it's pretty cold out.
    4) Recheck, your zippo butane should light up every single time with zero failure. Just like a BIC.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks! Pushing the wire down slightly solved all of the issues I was having.

      Mine had too much glue on the wire that was not providing enough spark. After picking off some of the extra glue, it worked great.

    Thanks so much for this video! My insert arrived today. It did not work at all. After both simple fixes, it works just fine.

    Thanks man, I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video 😁👍
    I received a new Zippo with the double burner as a birthday gift from my oldest friend on Saturday and it just would not light properly/reliably.
    I have used cheap disposable butane jet-flame lighters (from Clipper, Zenga and Tor-Jet) for probably 15 years with absolutely zero issues (except for the Zippo Blu that I bought when it launched, which was just complete garbage with no positives to mention, that I sent back to Zippo for repair 3 times and the lever that opens the gas valve still broke a fourth time after just a couple of days use, so I "retired it from service"...) but my new Zippo just wouldn't run and I was dreading the conversation where I would have to tell my buddy that it just didn't work... 🥺
    Watching your video reminded me how I used to have to purge air from the tank on my first ever jet-flame lighter (made by Rowenta, that I bought in Harrods in London way-back in 1991... 😳 -It used a fine wire filament like those found in lightbulbs instead of a spark to ignite the butane and aside from needing to be purged after every fill, it was an amazing lighter until some asshole stole it, and after owning that I have always loved butane jet-flame lighters after growing-up with "regular" gasoline Zippos as a kid.
    So, watching this reminded me to purge the tank (after 32 years of simply not needing to...) and suddenly my splendid shiny new Zippo works reliably *every time* I need it to, so huge thanks man 😊👍, and now I feel pretty stupid for not thinking to do it by myself... 🙄

    I have the zippo double flame butane insert. I bled it, took the governor off and jacked up the output, bled again and again. I was sure i wasn't getting a spark. As my last attempt to get a flame i bent the wire that creates the spark basically at a right angle toward the flame ports. Bend that litte wire down more.

      There are different types of zippos, with slightly different dimensions. I guess these butane inserts are meant to fit a selection of zippo types, so they may not fit as perfectly as the inserts that comes with the zippo.

      @matmorgan5752 Před 6 měsíci

      Another video said zippo has optimised it for very high quality butane. It’s probably perfect for it. I filled with shite and am going to empty it and buy some proper stuff.

    • @SiLatics56
      @SiLatics56 Před 3 měsíci

      @@matmorgan5752I was all ready for sending mine back, even though I had followed all the correct procedures for Butane lighters re. the whole bleeding the fuel tank of air/any remaining fuel beforehand, filling it correctly (I think), doing things according to all these 'fix' videos on CZcams, etc. It was working for a couple of goes and then would stop and just start hissing and sputtering. I'm a UK resident and I use SWAN Butane refill, which works perfectly on my other Butane Pipe Lighter (Vertigo Governor - Lotus). Maybe this was the problem. But then once I had filled the Zippo, after I had emptied excess Butane and air out of it in a sort of Butane explosion, it started working. This happens every time. It's toasted and lit a couple of quality cigars beautifully, then stops working. I refill, bleed it, it starts working again. The last couple of uses it was giving out a pretty huge and clear blue flame, and that's even I had turned the adjustment screw/flame adjuster down. It remains to be seen whether it works for much longer but I do need to know whether or not it is purely the quality of the Butane. So at some point I'll buy Zippo's own stuff.

      yeah they're not so great honestly. its.. fine once all fixed up as per video, but not really worth it. also fixed the fit with shimsm but at 15USD it shouldnt be like that. You can get a bunch of BICs and be happier, or just a regular zippo.
