Eli has a wonderful accent, and she's so determined to be a good gardener along with her wife. For such a little space they're amazing.
At 7000 ft altitude, the season for semi-tropicals is so short. We gave up growing much at the same altitude because we just couldn't get the plants to maturity.

At times, @@eliandkate it felt like cold, wet days in the Highlands, and at times, Colorado HOT!, but, sure.... best of both: I remember that Tuesday in July well.
You and Eli do a great collaboration and provide a lot of excellent information. The advice is spot on-- adjust to your climate and local variables; prune to manage productivity; manage your vines from early season until first frost. I do mostly as you do, but don't always stay on top of the wayward branches until they are in my paths. Next week I will start topping to focus on ripening up the fruit that is already on the vines. Thanks for your consistent efforts to provide exceptional content.

I prune every branch to 18inches from the ground due to blight and space them at least 2 ft apart but even then I'll still get blight being in the UK.

I have lots of septoria leaf spot happening right now. This summer has been fairly wet and unforunately not a lot of heat or direct sunlight. Removed a lot of branches and the plants aren't touching other plants, so hoping that it doesn't spread and the plants can still produce and push out new greens, even with the fungus destroying them. Maybe I'm trying to be greedy; but I like a low-productivity plant better than pulling it out and getting nothing. I might try a baking soda spray, but intentionally wetting the leaves seems risky.
Now I trim the first 10 inches from ground but only 10 percent of the total foliage within a 5 day period. After that I trim upwards and like a keep limbs below any fruit and moving upwards as fruit is harvesting just keep trimming any leaf below the fruit.
Remember I follow your advice as on the cutting back as Eli is already trimming for pushing the growth before chilling temperatures ends our tomatoes for the season

I’m 10-15 miles from Eli as the crow flies. As Eli has said it is about where you are. Zone8a. June for us was bad temps max 14c mins 6 - 8c. July rain rain and more rain. All my tomatoes are outside and I don’t have a single red tomato yet.
Oh no….. now I feel so guilty Ian…. June was an absolute heatwave for us😢
@@eliandkate Cheers Eli. The cucumbers are growing fine, a good crop. Zinnias have been battered by the July rain and lack of heat/sun. The tomato’s look fine but they are just green. Looks like it’s a chutney year. I cropped most of the tomato’s last week.

Are freeze-dried whole bunch of Little Debbie and hostess cakes! I learned the same thing. They need to be in little itty bitty bite-size crouton pieces because that's what they end up being! Croutons! Jason is right! They are really good dipped in coffee or hot chocolate or warm milk. 😊
Eli might be able to try the tomato variety called "Marmande." If you can find it in the USA, I definitely suggest trying it. It's the earliest beefsteak tomato I have ever tried, and the best tasting. It ripened earlier than some of the cherry tomatoes I had.
I absolutely agree and they are gorgeous. Those are our usual beefsteak but we’re shelved so we could try Black Krim this year.

I just trim the bottom to start and after that just to thin out foliage. I have very little blight on a couple of the many plants and that is expected come August 1st. I wouldn’t be able to keep up with single leader systems and the plants would sunburn here.
Epic Gardening had an interesting find in his garden and it was a volunteer Roma that was doing fantastic and was hidden out of the way. It looked like a location I would find the poisonous nightshade growing. He said it was much healthier than the others out in the garden. Maybe we have to forget and neglect tomatoes. I do know poison nightshade likes a bit of shade and moisture. Last year I left a few paste tomatoes in a cage and they remained healthy without care last year.
Have you considered trying lower and lean in the greenhouse? I have the same greenhouse and have had great success with lower and lean this season on Early girl, Roma, and Supersweet 100 tomato plants. I prune them to a single stem and trellis up a string, then when they hit the roof I let the string out about 3 feet and move it to the side, laying the stem along the ground. I then prune any leaves touching the ground. I've got vines 15 feet long and still growing, with ripe tomatoes at the bottom and green at the top. The constant pruning is really helping limit disease but I've had some problems with pests eating very ripe tomatoes that are sitting on the mulch.
I'm thinking of doing that next year to have more plants in the greenhouse. This year was an experiment to see how big a plant it could support.

I know I always say this but I love these collaborations and editing with you three! I can’t believe that black cherry in the greenhouse, wow!!! I think I mislabeled mine because it’s producing exactly the same color as my rosella. I just hope the extra plant that I gave a friend was correct😅. I can’t wait until next year when I hopefully get to try one!
Hi Scott, I'm anxiously waiting for the 2nd season of growing black trim and first it was the blossom end rot because of all the rain....then A RABBIT! ate a big chunk out of a beautiful plump green one! I'm still battling with cayenne so I hope Mr.rabbot will go away!

If two different varieties of heirloom tomato (or melon, cucumber…) planted next to each other, will their seeds be crossed and the next generation plants from these seeds will not be heirloom anymore? Please advise, thanks!
Maybe. Usually tomato flowers pollinate themselves and there is little risk of cross pollination. But there is a chance it could happen with two plants near each other. Melons and cucumbers are more likely to cross pollinate.
What do i do about cracked tomatoes? I water every other day; is that really too inconsistent to crack (and ruin from pests) them?
It depends on your soil. If your soil is drying out in between waterings it could lead to some cracking. Watering as often as needed to keep the soil evenly moist can help.

Why do tomatoes always taste good but trees have to be grafted to have good tasting fruit?
Fruit trees are grafted to choose the strongest rootstock and best fruit. Few trees have both characteristics.

On another channel.... someone said that you’re supposed to not use the soilsaw used for your tomatoes for the next three years. Do you know if that’s true or not?
It depends on your soil. I amend with organic matter and don't use any chemicals, even fertilizer. This is the third year for tomatoes in some of my beds and they're growing better than ever because the soil is healthy and can support them.
I even put Epsom salt on them heard helps them grow
Last yr. Tomatoes next day after Epson salts. This year much slower
