Yes you are right Fiat is a car company that is really not any worse than GM and Ford. Yet Americans have just ruined their reputation running their mouths about how bad Fiats are yet most have never owned one. We are so into big trucks, SUVs and crossovers yet most of us struggle to make payments on these things. Americans think people who drive small cars are stupid. Yet the idiots are people who feel the need to drive an vehicle the size of a small apartment to the grocery store.

BB, I wish more drivers in this country gave a chance to small cars like the 500, they might realize they don't really need a car the size of a small apartment for every driving task they have! and you are right on with the fact that Fiat is no worse then GM, Ford, or any other domestic brand. Like i said, I've had zero failures or major mechanical issues so far. Just gotta stay on top of the PM and it should be good to go for many years.

I have already talked to my local Fiat dealer and have been added to the list to order one as soon as I am able. I honestly can't figure out why everyone in the US doesn't have one. Makes no sense. @@Jas-lj5cu I absolutely love it, it had ~66k miles on it when i got it and over the past month have put just under 1k miles. During that time i’ve had no major issues(changed the oil& oil filter, topped off all fluids, and changed the engine air filter& cabin air filter when i purchased the car)
When i first bought it had only two things wrong that i’ve noticed. The first being a faulty rear wiper sensor, when i turned the rear wiper off it wouldn’t return to the down position it would just stay wherever it was when you turned it off. After a day or two of driving the car this actually fixed itself and no longer throws a code. The only other thing is after letting air out of my tires(previous owner overfilled by 5psi each tire) the pressure sensors were saying there wasn’t enough air, but just like the wiper they finally went back to normal. I think these both are to be attributed to the previous owner not driving the car very much as it was their “beach” car.
In terms of your height i think you’ll find the car to be very comfortable. As tall as i am i have the seat back to where i have comfortable leg room, and i still have maybe ~6 inches until the back of my seat would hit the front of the back seats.
The trunk has decent space for how small the car is, can easily fit groceries( for one or two people, probably not a whole family). I just took the car snowboarding this past weekend and with the back seats laid down i was able to just fit two adult snowboards inside, granted i couldn’t see out the rear view mirror and they stuck out a little between the driver and passenger seat headrest, but wasn’t hitting my head or impeding my visibility out the passenger window.
If you have any more specific questions about the car i didn’t mention feel free to ask and i’ll try to answer the best i can!

I love my 2012 Fiat 500 Sport that I bought new. It’s a 6 speed automatic and is the best choice over a manual 5 speed, it shifts smooth and combined with the “Sport Button” it is a great little performer. My mileage is great with the fact that 6 gear is overdrive. I don’t think I’ll ever give up my little Fiat, considering I’m now 82.

I'm on my third; went from a pop to a lounge (that I still own) and now, finally, an Abarth Cabrio. While I have loved them all, the Abarth is really something else. That "throwing it around" on twisty, curvy roads you mentioned takes on a whole new meaning with extra hp and stiffer suspension, particularly with the right mods pushing these little pregnant rollerskates close to 200whp! The other thing that I like about the Abarth is that, even after tuning and bolt-ons, the car still gets right at 30mpg! Your vid is spot on though, Fiat 500s are fantastic little, affordable cars, and an Abarth's about as much fun as you can hope to ever find in any car with your clothes still on!

We just ordered our Fiat 500 Lounge from Carvana, as well. The upside to Carvana is the 7-day return policy, and they pull cars from all across the US. They also provide the carfax report and detailed photos, videos, original window sticker, as well as all servicing info. And they deliver the car to your home. Where I live there are very few Fiats in local dealerships - I believe they discontinued the Fiat lounge and pop in 2019. So the cars are getting more scarce. And to purchase from a private party could pose as many or more issues including the ones the previous poster seemed to have about Carvana. We’re quite excited about our cute “new” car and glad Carvana helped us find exactly what we were looking for.

I love my 2012 manual! It is fantastic! My husband knocks it and NO ONE will work on it, but it’s easy enough that I can usually figure it out if my dad doesn’t have time to fit in my repairs. We replaced the cable for the clutch a year or two ago - the old design was not the best, so I definitely think it is worth replacing! I’ve had it 6 years and put on 100,000 miles. I never expected it to last this long, and I fear the day I have to find a replacement.

I’ve had my Fiat for about a year now! I was just getting my license and wasn’t comfortable driving big cars and wanted to use something small to make sure I passed my test 😂 I had never even heard of FIAT before my mom started looking into one for me and TBH I didn’t even want a car! During the pandemic my mom was saving money (to my surprise) and showed me a FIAT I really liked but was reluctant to buy. We went and looked at it one day and took it for a drive when I told her I loved it! It was about 9,000$ at the dealership we went to and was a 2013 FIAT 500 POP with 18,000 miles 🏃‍♀️ We went back so fast and bought it that day, took it home a week later, inspected with no problems and everything! She’s perfect and totally helped me pass my test. Really comfortable for new drivers and everything in this video is spot on! Love your color BTW

Plenty of room, fun to drive, etc. We've taken ours on several cross country road trips with no issues, and plenty of power in the mountains. My cousin in upstate NY just got one also...owns an antique shop, and has no issue with cargo space. Just stay on top of the routine maintenance and should run forever.

Great video, I agree with most of your points. Here in the UK, they are literally everywhere. Im a 43 year old guy and live on one of the large Scottish islands and use my car for commuting to work. It’s great in dry weather as you can really throw it about on the country roads but it is out of its depth in really windy and wet weather, that said, you need to just drive to the car’s capability and not do anything silly. In Europe they call it a ‘city car’ as most people use them in urban environments. On the whole it’s just one of those cars that capture your heart and imagination, you forgive it the flaws because you love it so much! One thing that is hard to live with is the driving position. The right hand drive car has almost nowhere to rest your left foot when not changing gear, but you learn to live with it, kind of like driving a go kart. My car is just the basic Pop model and is 5 years old Here in Scotland, the government are banning the sale of all petrol cars from 2030 so i really want to get another petrol 500 before then that I can keep forever.

The automatic is not bad, only needs maintenance every 50~80k Km. The 6 speed is the best, you can do amazing mpg/kmL on travels. The actual automatic is also great, but DO SEARCH for the ones that can change gear on the wheel, otherwise go for the 6 speed manual.

Mine is coming up on 130,000 miles. Bought it used when it had 124,300 mi. on it. The most complicated things on this car are the Multiair unit (which is unique to FIAT), the ABS system (which all cars have), and the electronic stability control system (which most cars have now). Keep the engine oil full & clean & the Multiair unit will be happy & trouble free.

Totally agree!!! Oct .2020 got rid of my huge SUV ( mom taxi) and finally bought my dream car. 2012 Limited Gucci Edition. Love , love, love it!! 💕Added Gucci OEM side stripes to coordinate wit Gucci convertible top, leather seats and seat belts!! Plus of course , a luggage rack!! I’m in heaven! Easily does 75+ on freeway and my 6’ son n 5’-5” daughter fit comfy also. Wish it was stick shift but no complaints. Get complements All the time. Gas efficient ( I normally drive at 55-60) and cover my Bambina everyday. Picked it up from original owner wit low mileage. I’m sure it’ll soon be a collectors item, it’s a classic now!!! This will be my first summer driving this cutie. Looking forward to long drives wit the top down and living La Dolce Vida!! 🇮🇹 Has anyone seen the New Fiats and the limited edition Designer Fiats in Italy?? Gorgeous!! Guess Chrysler wishes it would have continued offering Fiats ( especially wit the price of gas now, CA- $4.99 gallon!) I flash my lights to every Fiat on the road, Siamo una famiglia!! Enjoy 😉!!!

I bought a bright obnoxious red 2013 sport about a month ago. I just bought it because I needed to take a long trip or 2, and I'm not flying right now.
I wanted something a little quirky, something a little fun, good mileage and a 5 speed. After talking to a few people and doing some research, I decided I wanted a Fiat 500. I didn't want the turbo, just wanted something simple to use for the next 6-9 months. So I started looking and came across a Red Sport, black and red leather interior(its obnoxious, and I really like the body color brought into the dash), and I just fell in love with the thing. I bought it sight unseen for almost nothing. Didn't get to really drive it until I got it home, I trailered it home, it was almost 400 miles away. And for the record, couldn't really tell the difference between driving out there with the trailer, and driving home with the car on the trailer, its so light.
For a car that I was originally buying for just short term use.. Nope. I'm keeping this little guy. It is so much freakin' FUN!! And now I'm apparently watching videos on how fun they are. It is a fun car, its raw enough, its not "perfect" and cushy like most modern cars, and I hate that.
My old lady's Jeep will do 0-60 in 6 seconds, its a fricken rocket... And its BOOORRRIINGGGG.
This little car will lose in just about any drag race, and I don't care, it feels zippy, it handles great, not too many bells
and whistles, comfortable, I'm just shy of 6 feet, and not skinny, and I don't even have the seat all the way back,
plenty of room. Its just fun.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only big hairy guy driving around in a bright red little S*** box. It makes me
smile every time I drive it.

I love it! It’s a gorgeous little car, isn’t it? I bought one earlier this year, brand new version with 6 gears mild hybrid, and I hadn’t driven for 25 years!! Haha! This car gave me the pleasure to drive. I agree with everything you mentioned. I transported a bicycle in the boot with the seats down, it fits! I drive fairly long distances regularly (2 or 3 hours straight) and it’s very nice and comfortable. It feels like a convertible, mine has a panoramic roof so it’s really nice and light. It’s a brilliant little car. As you said it’s not terribly powerful but it’s cheap to run and it does drive nicely when fast on the highway, it’s stable, the seats are comfortable. I haven’t found anything bad to say about it.

I had a Daewoo Matiz which were very similar . One thing I would say about it is it could go places offroad that I`ve seen people ( powerline inspection crew ) balk at and walk the track instead of drive . I believe your Fiat would do that too if you drive like you Own it . I used mine in mud and sand . They are so light they almost float over the ground. Front wheel drive appears not to have a normal open diff like a conventional car . Try it , but don`t let the floor pan make heavy contact with the ground. Remember drive it like you own it ! Fit snow chains if you like , they`re fun on it .

Passing a used car lot one night, I spotted one and went to check it out. Up to that point, I'd been leaning toward a Mini Cooper but I was absolutely smitten with the little 500.
I did my research (curiously, though, it didn't occur to me to drive one) and found the version that I liked most, the sport model, and I set to looking for one. That was January and I found the right one for the right price, had it trucked down from Washington state. It needed brakes, a headlight, a radiator hose, and a good detailing.

I've had my 500 Pop 11 years and 11 months; just 80,000 miles. I love it. It's cute, comfortable, economical, and fun to drive (considering it only has 101 horses). But it has been far from trouble free--I've had a number of issues, like the rear brake discs falling apart at 25,000 miles; the rear shock mounts dissolving; the right door handle breaking off in my hand; pieces of plastic trim dissolving; the wiring to the rear defroster breaking; the right window mechanism breaking; the rear wheel bearings wearing out; the valve cover gasket wearing out, causing an oil leak. Right now, when I start the car I'm greeted by three warning lights: "tire pressure monitoring unavailable" (the mechanics assure me that the sender is fine; the computer can't read it for some reason, and it's only on one tire); "have engine checked"; and "check airbag system" (which I haven't had checked because the light goes out as soon as I start driving. OTOH, it has been reliable in that it has never failed to start, even when the temp is well below freezing. Cool video, though; and did I see good old Gloucester in one of your photos?

Hello; I thoroughly enjoyed your video review of the Fiat 500. I get so tired of bad press on quirky cars. I had a Smart diesel cabrio The reviews were terrible! I loved it. It was a great car if you joined Club Smart and learned what to do without going to Mercedes for service. I hope down the road I can grab a Cabrio Fiat 500. Enjoy, take care, stay well. Dave

Seeing your honest opinions and your awesome pictures have convinced me into getting the e model of this car when I can afford it. Yes yes I know its an electric but all the ones I can find have virtually 0 degradation after 60k miles when you look at something as new as the kia souls losing absurd amounts of battery life that far into their use. I was going to get a smart but why bother..... This is roughly the same price with better economy (both gas and electric) plus you can find a fixed up nice one that works or just get an electric one.
Can just take the rear seats completely out to for maximum room. Call me crazy but I think these cars WILL go up in sale as we see gas prices skyrocket past any reasonable level. It's already happening which is why I am going to try electric it's only going to get worse.

Jay, ill be honest, I have been looking at the E versions of my car too.. (i would use it just for work commute) and its insane what a value it seems to be. Like a 2014 500E gets a fully charged range between 80 and 100 miles, can charge in about 8 hours on a normal 120 v socket, and the initial cost for a used one is between 7 and 10 grand.. i mean, i cant think of a more perfect set up for a cheap commuter car that will run for at least 100,000 miles. I hope your right about sales of this car going up when the gas prices start trending higher. ALSO, if you do take the rear seats out you will have a very practical and useable trunk for sure. I've flirted with the idea and will most likely be deleting my rear seats this summer seeing as i almost never have anyone back there anyways.

I have a 2013 Lounge 5 speed, and loved it for the first 2 years despite the expensive brake job at 4 years and 60,000 km. The door handles broke under warranty and then again 2 or 3 years later cost about $500 to repair, the next time the drivers door broke I bought parts for both doors for $50 or so on Amazon. On a trip to Florida via New Orleans the transmission became virtually unshiftable, I had 3rd and 4th. Drove it from just outside New Orleans to Sarasota that way because I was afraid to be ripped off by some mechanic along the Interstate. Turns out it was some bushings in the shift linkage, not available for two weeks from Chrysler but the garage I went to put in some generic bushings and treated me right, parts and labour just over $200. Catalytic converter rusted off the exhaust, $1500 parts and at the same time the alternator went south another $700 estimated repair, the wiring harness in trunk broke so you couldn’t open the trunk anymore, all four wheel bearings had to be replaced there are probably more repairs I can’t remember.
I agree it was fun to drive, comfortable for two on road trips with plenty of luggage space but reliable and cheap to repair wasn’t my experience.

Yikes! What a terrible experience.. I have heard similar horror stories from other 500 owners.. It seems like its hit or miss with these cars. I bet if i had mine for a couple more years i would have started encountering some of the issues you mentioned, especially here in new england where the roads are fairly hostile (Salt, Snow, Potholes) Thank you for for taking the time to share your experience.

Awesome video! I totally agree with you.
    I’m 22 years old, and I have a 2007 fiat 500 lounge, white color.
It was my mum’s car, and when I turned 18 (In Italy you can drive from18 y.o.) she gifted me her fiat 500.
My mum bought the new fiat 500, but it’s really similar to the old one.
We both love this car!! It’s simply amazing.
    Did you change the exhaust?
Your car has a really good sound!

Thank you Federico! I'm so happy you and your mom are enjoying the magic of the 500 =-) The only thing i did to the exhaust is remove the muffler. Such an amazing improvement in sound with such a cheap modification. I advise everyone to take off their fiat 500 muffler hahaha! i must say, I do miss my 500 and sounds it would make... I sold it about 4 months ago. Happy motoring!

I had a 2012 Abarth, then a 500L, then a 500X and now just bought a used 2012 500 Pop. Never had any issues with any of them other than normal maintenance. Fantastic cars with sweet styling and not like every other cookie cutter car out there. No doubt the 5 speed manuals are the most fun. Automatics suck some of the joy out of them, but they are still a sweet little exercise in styling and fun. Now that they have pulled the 500s out of the USA, the gas prices are surging up and everyone is looking for one. For laughs I looked on Carvana and every one they had was in the process of being sold. The prices were crazy...there was a 2012 with 107,000 miles on it for 15K and it was purchased. Fiat is having way more success moving these used since they pulled them out of the new car market. LOL! If gas continues to get worse, I would not be surprised to see them come back. They still are a huge success in Europe where gas is 9.00/gallon. Now that Fiat is merged with Peugeot to form Stellantis, they are the third largest carmaker on the planet. Just behind Volkswagen and Toyota, so they are going to have a lot of clout! Great videos and I will miss your little red friend. For the record, mine looks exactly like yours! Have fun with your Solstice!

Thanks Chuck! I too miss the Fiat, and its only been like 4 months! The Solstice is such a different yet amazing experience, but I'm very happy with the decision to move towards the Pontiac. Interestingly, it gets about as much attention as the Fiat did. Every gas stop has the potential to be a mini show-and-tell session. Thank you for your commentary and Enjoy the Drive!

I have owned and loved fiats since I was 18 years old and bought my first one. A 1976 124 Sport Spider, I have had an X 1/9, a 124 Sport Coupe' and while I now have a 2012 500 Abarth, I also have a 1977 124 Sport Spider that I need to put back on the road. The 500 has been a delight, I get around 32 to 33 mpg with it, nothing has failed on it in the couple of years I have owned it (bought it used) and it really is a car that attracts women. One of my corvette driving co-workers was surprised how many women love the cute little Fiat over his vette.

Sailing Spark, you are a true Fiat fan! What a blessing to have experienced so many Fiats. And Yes, you make a great point about the attention this car gets compared to other, more powerful sports cars. That's a huge reason why i enjoy my 500 so much, its just so darn quirky and unique.

It's true that the 500 is a chick magnet. I also have a really nice Miata--it's basically invisible to women. But countless women have told me what a cute car my Fiat is; most have never even heard of the make. And kudos on your Fiat history; I learned to drive in my mom's 1976 Fiat 128 4-door.
