    I remember that news interview from a little while ago where she said her long-term goal was to find a way to walk across the stage at graduation. If she's already getting to use an exoskeleton just six months after her accident, I know she'll find a way to make her goal a reality!

      I would love to talk to you. This video has revived my youthful dream again to work as an OT or PT. I had forgotten how much joy I have in helping people to overcome physical challenges caused by accidental injuries or health issues. I needed to remember that to break out of the grief I have in losing loved ones to those things.

    • @jennifers6463
      @jennifers6463 Před 2 lety

      I'm curious with having those physical therapies with the combination with neuroplasticity and the power of the mind, can a person walk again? I have heard of stories of people totally recovering from strokes, so why not a spinal injury? Both the brain and spine are made up of neurons, therefore if the brain can fully recover from a stroke, why not from a spinal injury? Just curious of your opinion.

    • @sharonie1
      @sharonie1 Před 2 lety +3

      @@jennifers6463 it's great to be curious! The answer really depends on the type of injury. A complete spinal cord injury means all function/sensation below the level of injury has been lost. An incomplete spinal cord injury can have more potential for recovery and regaining of function but this is often case-by-case. These distinctions and potentials would be determined by medical professionals.
      A stroke or brain injury creates a different type of paralysis or impairment and in that case, yes, there is evidence that plasticity and spontaneous recovery play a very big role!
      This exoskeleton can be used for all these types of injuries as a mobility aid AND as a rehabilitation tool in the therapeutic setting.
      Please continue to be curious and do your own research 🙂 The human body/brain is amazing!

    • @nicolahall27
      @nicolahall27 Před rokem

      May I ask, can exoskeleton help strengthen muscles to maybe eventually walk again? I understand it depends on the injury, but it seems such an amazing step for paralysis. It looks like something that not only helps people achieve the feeling of walking again, but can maybe help the legs and muscles etc move.

    I was hospitalised last year due to UTI, pneumonia and HLH(a serious condition where my immune system acted against my own body abnormally), got deficient in vitamins due to many antibiotics and I wasn’t able to walk properly. I was so scared…I called my grandmom and cried and told the doctors I fear never walking again. They never said anything is going to be wrong but I was v scared. Apparently it was temporary and got cured after taking some supplements….it was diagnosed by the neurologist as as critical illness neuropathy. I was so glad when I was able to walk after a month and now I’m v grateful for the small basic things in life. I feared losing it once….now I truly know what’s the value of a ‘normal life’.

    I don't care that the exco skeleton is a robot. You were walking again. To see you standing up again was definitely a new victory. You even turned around the corner in the hallway. You should start a gofundme so we all can help you buy that exco skeleton. Love you so much 💗

    What joy I get to see you walk!!! And I don't even know you!!!! Keep up the great work...your one tough cookie and if anybody can walk again...it's you!!!! But remember to take it easy on yourself too. You've been through a lot and things take time. Okay, I'll stop preaching. But just so you know, you are an AMAZING YOUNG WOMAN!!!!!

    PS thanks for bring us along. I’ve learned a lot about the challenges disabled people face daily, and the medical advances made to improve quality of life.

    Makayla, you make sure you spend time every day visualizing your spinal cord healing and sparks going and it coming back to life. The mind is a powerful tool. Joe Dispenza used the power of his mind to heal from a catastrophic spinal injury. I know you can do anything you put your mind to!!
