Same here! My first ever BTS video was Butter because I was introduced to them by Tim Henson of Polyphia and Luke Holland when those two did a sort of prog metal-inspired cover. In Butter I noticed how crisp and dynamic Jimin's moves were... and yep, he's a kendoka and black belt in Taekwondo. That balance of tension and release, explosive power and gentleness, masculine and feminine. Yep. Balance is everything. ☯

Absolutely agree with you. There are so many people in fandom, Army. You can't think everyone is on the same page. I definitely think a lot of Armys are missing out on true Jimin and his artistry. I've also noticed that some of English translation wasn't delivering succinct translation. So, there is a lot of misunderstanding about him, too. In my observation, he really is a dignified, wise young man with strong integrity beyond his chronological age aside from his remarkable talents.
The first time I heard these lyrics, I remember thinking this is cute... but actually quite sad, too. Jimin has dealt with a lot of obstacles and hate on his journey to stardom, and he's definitely internalized some of it. He is so hard on himself, and has a lot of deep insecurity. Suga has said he used to find him crying in the bathroom before or after performances. RM has (jokingly, yet accurately) commented that Jimin needs a lot of love and attention to survive. And then you have this song, which is flippant, but with pleading undertones. "Please look at me now." "I will become anything for you, You can pick and use one of me." Maybe it can be viewed as a positive thing that he is constantly donning different personas for the people around him, trying to be what they want. I'm not sure I see it that way.
I think the song lyrics are more about his intention to dedicate everything to his fans instead of he is trying to please people. There are subtle differences. He expressed love for his fans and his willingness to create any form for his fans. He explained it one time in an interview. And regarding his crying after the performance, he was crying not because of deep insecurity, but because his performance wasn't good enough to reach his expectations. He is a perfectionist when it comes to his art, so his satisfaction level is much higher than other members. After practice after practice if the result is not what you expected, then you get upset with yourself. So, it's more of fighting with himself, and totally understandable. if you've been practicing a speech or any presentation for a mass audience and the result wasn't satisfactory after so much practice, how would you feel? You would probably feel like crying in order to ventilate the pressure. And for most of us, that's how we get better while going through the pain and frustration. That's nothing to do with insecurity. Also, RM jokingly said, "Jimin needs a lot of love and attention" which wasn't the meaning you described. Jimin was mischievously playing with Rm by calling him and knocking on the door but then he hid when Rm opened the door for him. So RM just jokingly said it to continue his Vlive conversation with a smooth transition. He probably could've continued not saying anything, but he did to excuse their playful interaction middle of the Live. Because it was a kind of interruption, so he had to say something to excuse their interruption. I don't think RM meant to say in a serious sense that Jimin needs love and attention more than the other members. I know, it isn't easy to grasp the exact meaning of their conversation when you just read off-the-screen translation and when you don't have full knowledge of their cultural nuance. Anyway, in that particular scene, Jimin wasn't looking for love and attention. Believe me, he is not an attention seeker as some people misunderstood in that conversation. Most insecure, attention-seeking people go around and brag about their past achievements loudly or subtly. Jimin never mentions what he did or who he was in spite of so many accolades in his belt. He is the humblest, and most secure person I've ever seen. He may be looking delicately beautiful, but his mentality is strong as iron.

Nevermind the numerous interviews and vlives in which Jimin has said self-depreciating things about his own voice. If that's not driven by true insecurity, then it's basically just fishing for compliments, and I don't think you or I believe that was Jimin's intention. As for RM and Jimin's exchange, I am very much aware that it was tongue-in-cheek. That's why I specifically said RM was joking. However, jokes are often based in a sliver of reality. What RM said isn't wrong--Jimin LOVES attention. And I understand your impulse to become defensive on his behalf when I say that, but I don't mean it as a bad thing at all. Jimin is a performer. He chose that path long before joining BTS, when he decided to make dance the focus of his studies. He's a person whose entire career depends on capturing people's attention, and he's spectacularly good at his job. Obviously, this is true for all the members. But what makes Jimin a little different from the others is in the way he seeks external validation to boost his confidence. He thrives on praise. Just as a few examples off the top of my head... in the BTS members' reaction to the Mic Drop MV--Jimin asks the others, "Do I look cool?" and "Was I great, too?" after someone else gets a compliment. The Dynamite MV reaction too--he thanks V for stopping the video and complimenting his part. Or... in the 100-seconds sports day episode of RUN BTS, Jimin repeatedly complains that the others are taking too long with their parts so he's not getting enough screen time. And of course, he's joking... mostly. He really does like getting that screen time, lol. We have been privy to thousands of hours of footage of Jimin's interactions and behaviors, and we see him act this way all the time... it's just sort of his personality. I honestly find it really charming. Imagine--someone as perfect as Jimin, worrying about whether he's good enough... it makes him more relatable. And like, he rains compliments down on the others as well, so it's not like he takes without giving back. OF COURSE none of this takes away from the fact that Jimin is incredibly humble, polite, and selfless. He loves the spotlight, but has no problem sharing it. But he is human, and humans have complicated personalities and yes, they have flaws--things like insecurity. Bringing it back to Filter, I think this song does a great job illustrating that. He is literally begging for attention in the lyrics, and offering to do whatever it takes to get it. I just wish Jimin would realize that his fans love him for who he is, and that he doesn't need to be anything other than himself for us to appreciate him.
@@cheshire913 You seemed that you've been watching their old videos and some of malicious Taekooker's fake videos which were designed to slander, belittle and attack Jimin. First of all, those reality show videos were made when they were so young and they were talking about insecurity pre-debut. And, all members confessed at one time or another about how insecure they were pre-debut and even post-debut. Somehow some fans' ideas about Jimin were stuck in old times, especially only about Jimin even though they all spoke about it. I wonder why not remembering other members' confessions how insecure they were. They were so young and lonely out of their hometown without their parents and I would be very insecure my self-esteem will be at rock bottom if I have to compete with all those talented people daily basis regardless of how good I am. I speak Korean and witnessed countless times that there were a lot of wrong Korean English translations which can lead to a completely wrong impression of someone, which happened to be Jimin in this case. Besides, if the audience doesn't have a clear understanding of cultural differences, it's so easy to misunderstand their intentions. That's probably why the older group didn't participate or expressed themselves much in the show except J-hope. There are a lot of those delicate nuances in culture especially in Korea. You are trying to judge and evaluate Jimin negatively based on those wrongly presented materials. Some Korea- Jimin haters also intentionally abused and altered the video content and redistributed it in order to sway Armys in their way for their own fandom or financial gains from clicks. Knowing all those, how can I not inject my knowledge? He is not insecure or desperately seeking attention as some people say. Those are all emphasized and reinforced by the haters over the years to keep Jimin in a negative light. I am not speculating. I know it. Someone like you probably came to fandom not knowing all these details and was swayed by certain groups and video clips, and you became one of the haters at some point and goes around spreading the wrong information about Jimin. It infuriates me because it's not justified no matter how you look at it. Filter lyric was not written by Jimin. He wished to be part of the team, but he wasn't. Bang PD was part of the team who made the song Filter. So, your theory that Jimin is desperately seeking attention and that you found the evidence in Filter's lyrics is completely wrong. The song was given to Jimin because of the sensual nature of the melodies which fits into Jimin's image people know. And the lyric is about dedication to the Army, not begging for attention as you described. Jimin explained it one time and he clearly said that he didn't write the lyric or compose the melodies. If anyone belittles you without knowing anything about you, how would you feel? If you know all the truth about Jimin, you will be embarrassed about your preconditioned judgment about him someday when you realized who Jimin really is. Jimin is not a pushover who is so insecure and bogged down by some of the hater's slandering, scheming to bring him down, or belittling him. Can't you see that he is one of the smartest, most resilient, and ambitious enough to make his own music without any help or collaboration and end up achieving so many accolades? That's who he is. Jimin is the reason I got into BTS when I did. I normally am not a fan of boy groups or artists that are pretty popular. the reason is they usually suck live at singing. I was very weary about BTS. I did was watch their bangtan5v and shows like that and thought they were hilarious. well then i was like oh yeah they sing. well i loved rhem because they wre so funny that inwas scared to watch a video of them singing so i kept putting it 9f because i didn't want to not like them. so then there was this videoof this gergious man with red hair singing happy birthday to this really handsome man . i.just rembet watching and listening to the red head and being like who is he . he can sing. so i on Google and with in a week i knew who the members weee..i.knew the rex head was Jimin has been my bias sence but i do love al the members. also the video was of jimin singing Happy birthday to jin but it was after jins birthday and jin wasn't having it.

Jimin is a complicated person and has struggled to define his identity through the years. He has written this struggle into his other music as well with songs like Lie and Set me Free Pt2. This is a personal empowerment song saying there are many sides to him and he embraces his complexity now and wants you to as well. He is saying "which me do you want? I can be any of them and show them to you without fear now."
There are numerous interview or blog or other moments where he talks about his struggle. He had body image issues partly from online hate and bullying calling him fat because of his chubby cheeks as a teenager when they first debuted. He also tried, in the beginning, to portray a very hard, masculine image in line with their hip hop origins. But he was profoundly uncomfortable in that role and he struggled with feeling like he was living a lie. He was just 17 and still a teenager when they debuted. They were all teenagers except Jin, who had just turned 20, and all struggling to figure out who they were. Jimin also was very hard in himself performance wise, never feeling he was good enough. There is a video of him watching footage of his younger self and crying and saying aloud to his younger self “hurry and become me.” He famously hates watching himself from that era because he remembers how much pain he was in. He became a much happier person when he embraced his true nature as a kinder, softer, gentler, more affectionate and more sensual person who is a natural flirt. He calls himself a “cutie, sexy, lovely, sweet guy.” And he is.

Copyright was more strict in what it required, some of the original videos people used for their reactions were removed so we had to find the best of what was left, and people have had time to get very invested in the way the video "should" go based on past experience. It's different to everyone. I love Jimin, and I love every one of them for different reasons, but I connect the most with Jungkook, I just get him as a person and as an artist in a different way. That is why every one of them has fans that are biased for that specific member, cause we are all different and we connect to different stuff, and that is great imo. Last but not least, they are who they are also because of the time they spent together and because of the influence they all had on eachother, they are the first to say this.🙂

I was Nick's researcher for this one and of the videos I could find it was either very very poor video and sound quality day one video, or high quality day two video from a channel that does a lot of good work for the community.
FYI - The art I made is AI art using many Jimin images as seed images and then using Midjourney v 5.1 and traditional digital art to create wholly new images made by me.

And regarding his crying after the performance, he was crying not because of deep insecurity, but because his performance wasn't good enough to reach his expectations. He is a perfectionist when it comes to his art, so his satisfaction level is much higher than other members. After practice after practice if the result is not what you expected, then you get upset with yourself. So, it's more of fighting with himself, and totally understandable. if you've been practicing a speech or any presentation for a mass audience and the result wasn't satisfactory after so much practice, how would you feel? You would probably feel like crying in order to ventilate the pressure. And for most of us, that's how we get better while going through the pain and frustration. That's nothing to do with insecurity. Also, RM jokingly said, "Jimin needs a lot of love and attention" which wasn't the meaning you described. Jimin was mischievously playing with Rm by calling him and knocking on the door but then he hid when Rm opened the door for him. So RM just jokingly said it to continue his Vlive conversation with a smooth transition. He probably could've continued not saying anything, but he did to excuse their playful interaction middle of the Live. Because it was a kind of interruption, so he had to say something to excuse their interruption. I don't think RM meant to say in a serious sense that Jimin needs love and attention more than the other members. I know, it isn't easy to grasp the exact meaning of their conversation when you just read off-the-screen translation and when you don't have full knowledge of their cultural nuance. Anyway, in that particular scene, Jimin wasn't looking for love and attention. Believe me, he is not an attention seeker as some people misunderstood in that conversation. Most insecure, attention-seeking people go around and brag about their past achievements loudly or subtly. Jimin never mentions what he did or who he was in spite of so many accolades in his belt. He is the humblest, and most secure person I've ever seen. He may be looking delicately beautiful, but his mentality is strong as iron.

I will point out that Jimin and Suga described in their episode of Suchwita how Jimin would cry BEFORE performances as well as after. Call it what you like, but how could he be feeling self-recrimination before knowing whether or not he did well? Nevermind the numerous interviews and vlives in which Jimin has said self-depreciating things about his own voice. If that's not driven by true insecurity, then it's basically just fishing for compliments, and I don't think you or I believe that was Jimin's intention.
As for RM and Jimin's exchange, I am very much aware that it was tongue-in-cheek. That's why I specifically said RM was joking. However, jokes are often based in a sliver of reality. What RM said isn't wrong--Jimin LOVES attention. And I understand your impulse to become defensive on his behalf when I say that, but I don't mean it as a bad thing at all. Jimin is a performer. He chose that path long before joining BTS, when he decided to make dance the focus of his studies. He's a person whose entire career depends on capturing people's attention, and he's spectacularly good at his job.
Obviously, this is true for all the members. But what makes Jimin a little different from the others is in the way he seeks external validation to boost his confidence. He thrives on praise. Just as a few examples off the top of my head... in the BTS members' reaction to the Mic Drop MV--Jimin asks the others, "Do I look cool?" and "Was I great, too?" after someone else gets a compliment. The Dynamite MV reaction too--he thanks V for stopping the video and complimenting his part. Or... in the 100-seconds sports day episode of RUN BTS, Jimin repeatedly complains that the others are taking too long with their parts so he's not getting enough screen time. And of course, he's joking... mostly. He really does like getting that screen time, lol.
We have been privy to thousands of hours of footage of Jimin's interactions and behaviors, and we see him act this way all the time... it's just sort of his personality. I honestly find it really charming. Imagine--someone as perfect as Jimin, worrying about whether he's good enough... it makes him more relatable. And like, he rains compliments down on the others as well, so it's not like he takes without giving back.
OF COURSE none of this takes away from the fact that Jimin is incredibly humble, polite, and selfless. He loves the spotlight, but has no problem sharing it. But he is human, and humans have complicated personalities and yes, they have flaws--things like insecurity. Bringing it back to Filter, I think this song does a great job illustrating that. He is literally begging for attention in the lyrics, and offering to do whatever it takes to get it. I just wish Jimin would realize that his fans love him for who he is, and that he doesn't need to be anything other than himself for us to appreciate him.
@@cheshire913 You seemed that you've been watching their old videos and some of malicious Taekooker's fake videos which were designed to slander, belittle and attack Jimin. First of all, those reality show videos were made when they were so young and they were talking about insecurity pre-debut. And, all members confessed at one time or another about how insecure they were pre-debut and even post-debut. Somehow some fans' ideas about Jimin were stuck in old times, especially only about Jimin even though they all spoke about it. I wonder why not remembering other members' confessions how insecure they were. They were so young and lonely out of their hometown without their parents and I would be very insecure my self-esteem will be at rock bottom if I have to compete with all those talented people daily basis regardless of how good I am. I speak Korean and witnessed countless times that there were a lot of wrong Korean English translations which can lead to a completely wrong impression of someone, which happened to be Jimin in this case. Besides, if the audience doesn't have a clear understanding of cultural differences, it's so easy to misunderstand their intentions. That's probably why the older group didn't participate or expressed themselves much in the show except J-hope. There are a lot of those delicate nuances in culture especially in Korea. You are trying to judge and evaluate Jimin negatively based on those wrongly presented materials. Some Korea- Jimin haters also intentionally abused and altered the video content and redistributed it in order to sway Armys in their way for their own fandom or financial gains from clicks. Knowing all those, how can I not inject my knowledge? He is not insecure or desperately seeking attention as some people say. Those are all emphasized and reinforced by the haters over the years to keep Jimin in a negative light. I am not speculating. I know it. Someone like you probably came to fandom not knowing all these details and was swayed by certain groups and video clips, and you became one of the haters at some point and goes around spreading the wrong information about Jimin. It infuriates me because it's not justified no matter how you look at it. Filter lyric was not written by Jimin. He wished to be part of the team, but he wasn't. Bang PD was part of the team who made the song Filter. So, your theory that Jimin is desperately seeking attention and that you found the evidence in Filter's lyrics is completely wrong. The song was given to Jimin because of the sensual nature of the melodies which fits into Jimin's image people know. And the lyric is about dedication to the Army, not begging for attention as you described. Jimin explained it one time and he clearly said that he didn't write the lyric or compose the melodies. He just sang a song with the performance. How can you overlook those background research and try to judge him by your own imagination? Without knowing the truth, you were going around and injecting your own misinterpretation like you were telling the truth. Does it sound fair to Jimin in your mind? If anyone belittles you without knowing anything about you, how would you feel? If you know all the truth about Jimin, you will be embarrassed about your preconditioned judgment about him someday when you realized who Jimin really is. Jimin is not a pushover who is so insecure and bogged down by some of the hater's slandering, scheming to bring him down, or belittling him. Can't you see that he is one of the smartest, most resilient, and ambitious enough to make his own music without any help or collaboration and end up achieving so many accolades? That's who he is. He is much stronger and more confident than you imagine. So, please stop slandering with your misinformation about him. If I were you, I'd never judge anyone in that way without sure knowledge and spread your own misjudgment. If you keep doing it, one unlucky day, you could be in a big legal problem for distortion.

Jimin is the reason I got into BTS when I did. I normally am not a fan of boy groups or artists that are pretty popular. the reason is they usually suck live at singing. I was very weary about BTS. Jimin is a complicated person and has struggled to define his identity through the years. He has written this struggle into his other music as well with songs like Lie and Set me Free Pt2. This is a personal empowerment song saying there are many sides to him and he embraces his complexity now and wants you to as well. He is saying "which me do you want? I can be any of them and show them to you without fear now."
There are numerous interview or blog or other moments where he talks about his struggle. He had body image issues partly from online hate and bullying calling him fat because of his chubby cheeks as a teenager when they first debuted.
He also tried, in the beginning, to portray a very hard, masculine image in line with their hip hop origins. But he was profoundly uncomfortable in that role and he struggled with feeling like he was living a lie. He was just 17 and still a teenager when they debuted. They were all teenagers except Jin, who had just turned 20, and all struggling to figure out who they were. Jimin also was very hard in himself performance wise, never feeling he was good enough.
There is a video of him watching footage of his younger self and crying and saying aloud to his younger self “hurry and become me.” He famously hates watching himself from that era because he remembers how much pain he was in.
He became a much happier person when he embraced his true nature as a kinder, softer, gentler, more affectionate and more sensual person who is a natural flirt. He calls himself a “cutie, sexy, lovely, sweet guy.” And he is.

Copyright was more strict in what it required, some of the original videos people used for their reactions were removed so we had to find the best of what was left, and people have had time to get very invested in the way the video "should" go based on past experience.

It's different to everyone. I love Jimin, and I love every one of them for different reasons, but I connect the most with Jungkook, I just get him as a person and as an artist in a different way.
