  • When Breland was trying to find a path in her early 20s and started a youtube channel called GlitterForever17- she had no idea where it would end up taking her. What started as kid friendly DIY CZcams empire ended in foreclosed mansions, substance abuse and a destroyed reputation. What happened to Glitterfoever17?

      Here's a good one
      Vice ran a report on Chinese censorship in which they interviewed the Chinese influencer, Naomi Wu. They didn't remove her details from that report and refused to after she asked them to, she has now been disappeared thanks to their decision to unethically post their sources info against her wishes.

      @@DumplingDoodle i find it surprising. From the outside looking in, it seems like it would be really fun. No one wants to work 9-5 at some shitty job, we do it because we have to. People generally like being creative, they want to choose their own hours, work from home, and we generally like receiving attention. So then to learn that a lot of CZcamsrs are actually miserable is quite surprising. I remember a video from a rapper named Lil Tecca where he asked his Live chat if they wanted to be famous and he basically said you think you do but you wouldn’t. Apparently it sucks

      Therapist here. Prior to my career, I used to have a huge issue with those "faking" mental illness as I felt it undermined those with said illnesses. As I became more educated and mature, I learned that it's far more likely those types do have a mental illness of some kind and the behavior of "faking" is a symptom. It could be because of a lack of support structure, self-worth concerns, social pressure to fit in and/or be important, trauma, personality disorder such as histrionic (which involves the obsession with being the center of attention), etc. It's just a matter of turning of the judging and paying closer attention.

    Something about this documentary reminds me so much about Drop Dead Gorgeous. It’s so raw and intimate, but also completely absurd. The whole thing ending with them eating craw daddies with gloves on, the mom filming Breland behind a shed, taping the latex face on the fridge. It’s all so weirdly surreal and I wish her the best of luck.

    A lot of respect for her being honest. Being an “influencer “ or on social media is seriously stressful and I think a lot of people don’t talk about the life behind the screen. We’ve watched a lot of people lose it (lack of better words) after they go viral. It affects their mental health and causes financial ruin when things don’t pan out.

    Listening to her talk about onlyfans….this is in my opinion something more people need to think about when signing up to do OF. It sounds good at first, the idea of making a lot of money from home and not necessarily having to put much effort in. But the problem is that it’s not a sustainable income, it eventually mentally wears on you, and when the income starts decreasing, you’re left to turn to other income options and having done basically pornography can be very limiting in terms of careers. I have my own resentment and bitterness about this subject, so I’m trying to reserve my judgement, but just know mentally it is not good for you to do.

      @scar1002 Před 9 měsíci +19

      @@le6783 I'm assuming you made this comment because you feel that the original comment's trauma is invalid in some way. What I find most interesting by your comment is that you clearly understand the gravity of trauma, which means you are aware of the fact that so many people experience trauma as a result of a variety of different events. The APA states that "a person may experience trauma as a response to any event they find physically or emotionally threatening or harmful."
      Notice that it does not define the 'gravity' of an individual's experience in order for it to lead to trauma. I can understand why a child would feel entirely assaulted and confused by a youtuber they trust suddenly beginning to share extremely mature and violent content.
      I'm aware that 'trauma' is thrown around a lot, but as someone who has experienced trauma, I would definitely not want to gatekeep its use, and I almost would rather individuals engage with trauma as a term in such a way that makes it accessible to more people who can engage in self-discovery and begin healing.
      I'm sure, as I stated above, that you commented this because you too have experienced trauma, and I am truly sorry if you feel that I am invalidating your trauma with my comment, it is not my intention. I just feel that a person's right to communicate about their trauma, as something so violent, should not be kept from them for any reason.
      I must also note that my comment results from me being triggered. When I was a child I had to advocate for myself because no one would believe the violent abuse I suffered underneath my birth mother. The people who invalidated me based on perceived gravity actually made the situation worse.
