  • On Monday 22 July 2019, AIS was fortunate enough to host Professor Francis X. Clooney from Harvard Divinity School. Clooney engaged with the topic of Christianity, Hinduism and Islam at the Crossroads”, which was based on religious communities and their role in a modern society which continues to become more and more secular.
    Clooney brought with him a wealth of knowledge from studying Hinduism and Christianity for many years, as well as his experience as a Catholic priest. He emphasised that instead of retreating when faced with secularisation, religions should instead work together to share their traditions, values and common challenges. Together, Clooney states that Christianity, Hinduism and Islam have many similarities, and despite their differences, share a common interest in promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
    Clooney touched on the intricate topics of mystic theology, rebirth, and how to study so that we acknowledge other religious practices and history. Key topics such as secularisation, pluralism, individualism, and the new media, were all analysed within a religious framework of inclusion and sharing ideas on how we learn.

    Hinduism (Sanatana Dharma) is the Ocean, and Christianity and Islam are the waves of that Ocean.....The waves belong to the Ocean!

      Hinduism is merely another wave. Hinduism matter of fact is very inconsequential in the big scheme, like every other religion it was merely an amalgamation of things before it.
      Hinduism also has a lot of false conceptions about reality. The Samkhya school was the closest to truth though.
      Also Christianity and Islam are preceded by Judaism, not Hinduism. You'd be in the realm of conspiracy theories in making such absurd and factless assertions.

      @@davidbrant390 Not true! Your understanding is not mature and You need to study more!
      The fundamental core of Sanatana Dharma is study of the divine. Hence every person engaged in the study of God is a Hindu, whether it be a Jew, a Christian or a Muslim!
      So no matter what religion You follow, When You go deeper and deeper into your understanding of God, You will inadvertently be led to the principles espoused by the Sanatana Dharma...

    Religious pride is one of our worst characteristics as modern Hindus. It is a sign that we have, unfortunately, absorbed very little of the great but complex religion. Swami Vivekananda did not boast about the superiority of Hinduism in Chicago. Had he done that he would have been on the next ship back to India.

      @st.mephisto8564 Před 3 lety +1

      That's not entirely true! The Christian cosmology consists of one giant cycle rather than multiple cycles.
      Starts with heavens and Eden, proceeds to the fall and death, struggles until a saviour or avatar comes. Who dies and resurrects again, in a cyclical manner like a phoenix in order to set the creation right, till he will come again and bring a new earth and heaven.
      And there's no Catholic philosophy, because just like Hinduism, Catholicism has multiple schools of philosophy. The scholastic school is more linear but there are other ones.

    Excellent lecture on a complicated topic. Religion still plays a major role in society and religion is essential for a vibrant democracy. Unfortunately, there are religious conflicts, many religious people don't believe in religious pluralism. Pluralistic theologies assume that other religions might be equally true but talk to some Christians or Muslims about that, they would get angry, for them, their religion is the only way to salvation and all others would go to eternal hell. They would quote their scriptures if you don't believe it. Hindu religion is one exception and truly pluralistic.

      @australianrabari Před 3 lety

      Sir, there was no Hindu word until outsiders imposed it upon us...people beyond River Indus were called Indos or Hindus by Persians and Greeks, and for people living within India didn't have to give a name to their way of life, omnipresent inclusive belief system...they embraced even differing Darshans, Charvak's materialism, Budhha's atheistic teachings, Shivaite ot Vaishnav beliefs without seeing need to kill each other... narrow classification of so called religions didn't apply to people in South Asia as our word was a 'Dharma'.. a holy duty performed ernestly... Unfortunately, with time, our Upanishdiya traditions get rusted with vested interests of brahminical and other cast/cast superiority ...and also denigration by foreigners esp. Evangelists.. a time to revisit the fundamentals!

    Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is mentioned in oldest religious books(Vedas) of Hindu as Kalki Avtar(کلکی اوتار) .
    The Vedas are 4000 years old according to Hindu scholars of Vedas. One Sanskrit professor of Varansi Hindu university has written a book that all references cited in Vedas tell us that Mohammad
    (PBUH) is Kalki Avtar.
    The details mentioned in Hindu's
    scriptures are astonishing. We do not find so much details in any other
    religious scriptures like Bible.
    What is the real source of these informations? Who could have given all these informations before coming of prophet Mohammad (pbuh) 2500 years ago.
    Of cource no common man but a prophet to him revealed all these informations from Almighty Allah-- the crator of humankind.He knows everything.
    Who is that prophet?
    It is not mentioned in Vedas but ‌‌نوح عليه السلام( prophet Noah).
    (pbuh) may be that prophet.
    He is mentioned in Torah and in Qur'an. He is oldest and well known prophet after Adam (pbuh) the ancestor of humankind.
    These informations were transformed by one generation to another and recorded later on.
    Hindus scholars know Mano.
    Allah knows best.
