In case anyone is blundering on strings as I was, as an alternate method on the intro riff, you can also slide your middle finger down on the a string to fret 1 After playing the C chord shape, and then release for the third repetition. That way you're set up for the stretch to fret 4 on the lower E without jumping.
If truth be known ELO actually stole it from the Beatles Dear Prudance and Brendan Lynch and Weller had to pay royalties to both formentioned for the use of it
