I loved the song and I love idle and if that is not enough for you than please take your views elsewhere.

what i think happens is that the girls all dated the same guy but he ended up slowly turning abusive and then killing them in the end,
    Miyeon- Drowned
    Soyeon- Strangled?
    Yuqi- pushed down the stairs?
    Shuhua- Car crash
Minnie finds out about the other girls and knows she has to kill him before he kills her first, channeling the other girls as she puts the gun to his head, then she flees the country with the spirits of the other girls following her after theyd been free?
idk thats what i gathered from the video

My interpretation is that the four members have all fallen victim to the guy and are dead at the time minnie was supposed to get married. but it's also interesting because each member shows a different response to abuse because it shows on their facial expressions when they point the gun to him.
miyeon - submissive type. she never fought back and she looks puffy eyed by the pool, like her only outlet was crying on her own. then she resorts to self-harm. either that or we saw her as an example of the guy ending up murdering them. regardless, it makes sense that she looks cold and emotionless during that gun scene. she's so tired of it.
soyeon - seems to practice the most control. she gets manhandled and she lets him (probably to avoid escalating the situation) but she shows how much she resents him. so when she gets to shoot him she has that excited look on her face. like she's planned it all.
yuqi - the one who actually fought back and witnessed him get physically abusive. she leaves then comes back for revenge. that's why she had that smirk holding the gun. a "this is what you get for hurting me" moment for her
shuhua - the one who fell for him the hardest. but he probably k*lled her in that car because towards the end we see that the car was then filled with flowers. holding the gun she looks like the only one reluctant to do it. like it hurts her to point the gun at him but knows she had to.
minnie - the one closest to a happy ending but snaps because of the betrayal. being left at the altar was probably what broke the camel's back so she's the one who kills him with rage, and then a satisfied smile after doing it. screams warranted unhinged moment to me.

Others have pointed out the theory that the members--other than Minnie--were actually murdered by the abusive guy. (Picturing them with flowers could be symbolic of their deaths and grief.) It's actually a fantasy kdrama trope that the spirit of a murder victim can often not 'move on' because of their unsatisfied 'grudge' against their killer. Thus, when we see the others with Minnie, they are ghosts, looking for her help in satisfying their grudge and perhaps also helping protect her from the same fate. After she kills their murderer, we see them again, but this time looking satisfied and at peace, because their grudges have been satisfied. Finally, they are now able to 'move on' from this world and in the final scene, they disappear! Or I could be wrong. lol

I think you were right about the dying thing. I think Minnie was the only one really able to leave the relationship but it was too late for all the others. Miyeon drowning, Yuqi is always by the stairs so she could have been pushed, Soyeon seems to have been abused and Shuhua's last car scene, the flowers there are what I think are usually used in funerals so I think she also died. But they were all there with Minnie in spirit which is why she was alone in the end but I'm guessing she helped them find peace.

My take is that they are all Minnie - she has a psychotic break due to the abuse and snaps. The scenes on the boat are her realising/ accepting what had happened to her.
I see the wedding as symbolising the betrayal and harm done in the marriage/ relationship.
I totally agree about the disconnect - I think this MV was all taken from the lines "I want you fall..." and "psychotic kind of love", so I think it has less of a disconnect than the " I do" MV. I love both MVs and songs, but i think it really shows the difference between an agency producing their music and MV and Soyeon producing and creatively directing.

Agreed. I think that just like in "I do" they are all the same person, but different facades. Just like in "I do" each one of the girls seem to represent a different "personality trait" - Shuhua being emotional, Soyeon being intense, Yuqi being child like/innocent, Miyeon being observative and Minnie being overall extremely happy -, in "I want that" each one seems to represent differen stages of a relationship - Minnie is the main character. Miyeon seems to be the start of the relationship (a date in a public pool, her puting on make up, him caressing her cheek), Shuhua is the proposal (the ring, the car) but also when the toxicity starts to become noticeable. Soyeon is just after the marriage when he starts to become physical, and they are living togheter (in the kitchen scene we can tell there is tension of someone who knows what the other part is capable of). Last but not least, Yuqi is the one who leaves the relationship (She is also the only one who cries, while the others are just contemplating).

We need the dance break, because of the hard filth of the synth, and to showcase their choreo. And to break-up the harshness of the subject matter. The pre-chorus helpsas well. It ramps-up pretty quick again, and is a "story" about surviving domestic abuse, which (maybe) only Minnie survives, and frees the ghosts of all the girls with her actions.

I'd like to share my controversial interpretation after multiple viewings of the MV. My interpretation is generally as follows: The girls start out (and importantly also end up) on a luxury yacht in a calm, serene way. They are reading a book entitled "C'est La Vie" which translates to mean: "That's life". That is a statement of resigned acceptance of the unexpected (generally bad things) in life.
The MV then goes off on a wild DREAM sequence of sexually charged but dysfunctional/abusive love. A wild type of love that is equal parts wildly fun, intensely passionate and addicting but hurtful, unhealthy and destructive. The lyrics include: "I want that oui merci no c'est la vie". This is a clear reference back to NOT wanting the boring life without love that the girls were living on the yacht (while reading the book entitled "c'est la vie"), and wanting instead an exciting, dangerous life filled with destructive love.
The wedding scene in which Minnie enters the chapel so full of radiant happiness, only to turn and look back in darkness and horror can be explained by her being trapped in a boring, loveless marriage of luxury--she entered the marriage seeing the fun, romance and hope of the marriage, but in retrospect, she was trapped in a life that she found soul-deadening and horrifying (symbolized by her looking back down the church aisle that she walked, but this time seeing darkness and despair.
This is reinforced when the girls sing towards the end of the song wanting "That p-s-y-c-h-o-t-i-c kinda love" . The MV ends with Minnie waking up from her dream inspired by her yearning for that live-for-today-and-damn-the-consequences love instead of her quiet, boring life of pampered luxury (which hints at Minnie being trapped in a loveless marriage that provides her with great material comfort and luxury, but not the passion that she so desperately craves). The climactic scene where Minnie enters a sterile, boring, conservative office setting with all of the male worker drones in virtually identical suits and ties and shoots her husband AND blows up the boring office (all while a bright, manic smile spreads across her face after shooting her husband in the head) reinforces that she rejects the traditional, boring, safe life that passionless marriage represents--she craves that "psychotic kind of love. Miyeon hitting the amazing high note as Minnie shoots the man and then has a rapturous smile spread across her face again seems to highlight that Minnie is enjoying this--she WANTS this. The early scene where Soyeon finds the box that contains both the wedding ring box and the gun also seems to have added meaning when viewed in this lens, and seems to symbolize her embracing both sides of a psychotic type of love.
Finally, this interpretation is also seemingly strongly supported by the title of the song itself: "I Want That". The girls WANT this type of dangerous, dysfunctional psychotic love of intense positive and negative passion instead of the boring, ho-hum, safe, materially comfortable but ultimately deeply unsatisfying kind of life.
I know that this interpretation is very controversial, and I welcome your reaction and comments! ; )

I probably interpreted the music video similar to how you initially did! It seems like he had abused Miyeon, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhua and murdered them in different ways according to what the members were surrounded by most of the video (e.g. Miyeon near water - possibly drowned; Shuhua in the car - possibly car accident). From what I gathered with the first wedding scene with Minnie, she seemed happy until she came to a realisation of what may end up happening to her (when she turned around and was covered in bruises and cuts and was all by herself). Because of this, she was able to run away (out of the wedding hall) before anything bad happened and took her revenge for the other girls, allowing them to be 'set free' from their torment and go in peace (them on the boat smiling before disappearing after he was killed). There was another thing I thought that had to do with the blood on Minnie's foot and Soyeon being seemingly surprised on finding a gun at the beginning of the video, it looked like they were sort of insinuating that Minnie might have also taken her own life after the ordeal was over. This was just my interpretation though, so it might be completely wrong.
Also, with the high note, I really can't tell whose voice that was because I can only hear Minnie with my earphones in, but it sounds like Miyeon when I don't have them on. It was amazing either way and I guess we'll truly know when they perform this song!

I think all the girls is one, and this's just her dream after read the red book 'c'est la vie'. This vedio show us about different situation in one women ' Minnie' ( you can see they ware the white outfit in intro and outro and the red book too),
The head shot is not real . Just erase him in her mind.
Dance brake so crazy, I very like. Rap is good, high note of Miyeon so good but the screaming, I think sang by Minnie that I think.

  • @ttstwist3253
    @ttstwist3253 Před 11 měsíci +2

So! My interpretation, is that minnie is the main character. The other girls are representing different point in the relationship. There seems to be a lot of princess treatment(?) like the abuse and then the apology and well- treatment only to repeat the cycle? I see this in the flowers, the gentle caressing, the photo shoot, the pillow fight, the wedding ring. Minnie is actually the one going through this and realizes that if this marriage goes through, she'll be stuck with this abuse for life.
At the end, the other girls are showing Minnie's different conflicting emotions before shooting. Yuqi looking like she is going to enjoy this, miyeon looking apathetic or emotionally detached, soyeon angry, shuhua looking hurt, and Minnie the resolve.
Minnie wakes up alone because the other girls are her.

I'm thinking that it's about a light S&M relationship that goes a bit too far. There are lyrics about speeding through yellow lights and giving green lights. It seems clear though that Minnie is the only person who is actually present for the story line of the video. It shows each of the girls starting out happy with the new relationship, but then it clearly goes bad. At the end, after Minnie kills the guy (same guy they all had the same bad relationship with) that everyone is in a peaceful place... on the boat. But it's just Minnie. The others might be dead and only there in spirit? Or, perhaps the others are different aspects of Minnie's personality? That would tie in with the "I do" theme of each member being a different aspect of the main character.

That high note, i initially assumed it was Minnie, or possibly Miyeon, until one of the interviews that was released in the last couple of days when they were asked who can sing highest, and they all immediately said "Shuhua", so now I'm really wondering if it could be her.
