20 years ago today this hit No2 on the Official UK singles chart. I’ve had my ups and downs over the years about how I felt about having co-written and co-produced this song… but it paid for my home, it paid for me to live for 4 years while I got my degree and masters, and the whole life I have now owes a massive debt to this song.
Whether you love it or loathe it, I’m EXTREMELY proud of having co-written this 🎉❤. It’s nothing like as easy to write something this catchy and cheesy as people may think… and a huge thanks to Mike Stock, Bob Patmore and Steve Crosby for giving me the opportunity.
To all those who make fun of this song or find it annoying, sorry!! Haha, but I got to achieve a great ambition, a childhood dream… I dreamed of writing pop songs, and I grew up loving Stock Aitken Waterman, and I got to write this with Mike Stock, and I had a Big hit single!

When I first went to England this song hit it big. It blew my mind because throughout my childhood at day camps and sleep away camps in the 1980s, we sang the chorus part of the song, with the arm movements. I couldn't believe they made it a pop hit with verses. I bought the single for a friend of mine in America and when I gave it to them, they stopped speaking to me for a while - I think they were just stunned.

The cultural anthropology of this song is legit fascinating. Like even as a kid I recognized this as niche, like vaguely wondering why it exists, because it almost seemed like - beyond a fever dream - everyone around me collectively imagined this into existence. It just clicks in so neatly into playground lore that it was almost suspicious. So only recently I came to understand that it quite literally was imagined into existence, the chant "a pizza hut, a pizza hut..." has been documented to be sung by schoolchildren since at least the late 1980s, of which itself is a parody of a traditional Moroccan children's song, and this track just incorporates it as the refrain... and additionally interpolates the melody of a 19th century US patriotic standard? Man, this could be considered a global folk song.

I discovered this song and its music video when I was looking up a song or so from Phineas and Ferb and one of their songs might've parodied this one when I looked up the trivia in one of their songs. This song and some of its words was brought up in it. I gave this song and its music video a gander and all I have to say is this song actually is cool. Looks like one of them happy songs that you can listen to or watch on youtube when you need a pick me up after a long day. I do love McDonalds and Pizza Hut, sadly, I'm not much for KFC. But wow!
