I resonated with this!!!! His work space was beautiful! And I totally understand his need to clear his mind before he paints. I have to do the same thing and I cannot have any distractions visually so I need a clear space with the least amount of things around as possible! I wonder if this is common? I also have a couple of those large Japanese ink brushes mine is not as large as his but about half that size and I looove them for large washes especially :) they are great for holding large amounts of colour! Found on amazon after a search when I used a small one from Japanese set I used I realized I wanted more.
Karl, I came upon your work only recently; it is stunningly beautiful. I've worked with animals all my life as a photographer and filmmaker but have only just begun to paint. I have a fairly thorough knowledge of animals but not in a dozen lifetimes could I produce the kind of accuracy that you achieve without using any reference material other than what is in my mind. Am I correct in deducing from what you present here that you don't use any "printed" reference material on which to base your paintings? If not, your work is even more astonishing.
fantastic a talent in your hands, brillant. beautiful house too and beautiful , perfect birds on water color, i never see. now frist water color, big water color with animals. so birds, Congratulatios, Big talent. special talent.

Went from a brush almost the size of a floor mop, to a brush almost the size of a pencil lead...quite skillful and inspirational.
