What kind words. Thanks so much! I really appreciate that!
@@ItsTippToppFishing cheers, brother.
Im off to learn how to tie the rigs you described.
Found an "undiscovered shallow creek" near my home with tons of huge carp in plain view of the bank.
I could probably scoop some up with a net, but i'd rather fish them out properly.
To date, Ive been doing it all wrong. Have ordered weights, rubbers, fake corn, and boilies.
Looking forward to success this coming spring.
I'm just getting back into carp fishing and this tutorial helps refresh my memory. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Canada.
One of the best vids I’ve seen explaining all the rigs! Well worth a sub! Nice one brotherrrrr!
Used size 8 hooks 2oz or 2.5oz leads no problems in 42 years of carp fishing and a running rig with light leads actually works well .
Wou se die aksent is daar. Dankie. Jy leer my baie. Subscribed!!
I love how you explain and show the components for the rigs. Great video!
This is without doubt the best guide on carp rigs i have ever seen,i have been carp fishing fo 45 years but i have 1 simple tip for any angler. You can make fishing as complicated as you like BUT keep it simple ,well done you guys what a cracking guide 10/10 absolutely outstanding.
Lovely to hear a saffa doing some carp stuff. Subscribed now. From a fellow saffa in devon, United Kingdom
I use scaled-down versions of these rigs for my bream & tench fishing here in Ireland. 😎👍☘
Subbed & liked , my man ...😬
Very easy well explained one of the best videos regarding to carp fishing I ever seen
That means a lot. Thank you!!
Dude, you clarified some confusion in my carp tackle set up for me, and for that, I liked and subscribed. 😎 Understand, we're behind the curve when it comes to carp in America compared to everyone else across the pond.
Hey man thanks for the support. In terms of carp fishing, I also think America is "behind the curve" but I think it is a great thing for people like you who fish for carp. You have all these carp out there that almost no one fishes for so your fishery is not pressured at all! It's so cool!
Just bought new set up to get back into it. Great video on rigs and will be checking the how to tie video out to. Nice work
Great video with lots of good tips keep them coming and tight lines 🎣👍
Keaton i meant to say i subscribed, see your from South Africa, home of Gilbert Foxcroft an absolute carping genius wonderful guy.
Thanks for the sub and totally agree, Gilbert is a wonderful man and carping genius
Nice to see someone else making videos for new anglers . Novice Angler is mine . Tight lines good sir !

Superb video for a new starter to carping
I'm 66 just started fishing again with my grandson none of this stuff was around in my day found this nice and clear but looking for more advice on float fishing for carp and not long casting. Saying this did find your video very informative and like the rig diagrams Thank you
Hi! Thanks for the view and the comment! 😊 for float fishing advice look up "Totally Awesome Fishing" I've seen many oldschool and some new school float fishing videos there. Hope it helps

Thanks for all the great info. I’ve been thinking about targeting carp for a while now.
Great video. Very well produced and a very comprehensive look at the various carp rigs.
great advice , thank you.
I like when you say ''Let's spread the love of fishing''. It's really hard to explain to certain people, that it's all about passion and sport.
You know, in my country most of the anglers keep the catch and eat it after. It's not because they are starving, but just the habbit. I have seen guys catching and cleanning 0.3- 0.5kg of carp! This are babies, ffs! Even worse-when I argue with them and they are like ''I spend 500 euro on this tackle, why not to keep it?''.Just ridiculous. Anyway mate, keep on with good videos. Catch and release.
And just one more thing. When carp is throwing haviar it becomes lazy and goes into shallow parts of the lakes then this guys go with long boots and just throw carp with hands into bags. After this they complain that ''there is no fish here''. So what exactly did you expect to happen?
Yeah I hear you. They kill everything they catch then they want to catch a big one.... the big ones only get big if they stay alive. I gues if the waters are managed correctly, its not too bad that some are kept for food. I prefer not to kill fish that's my personal preference. Thanks so much for the support
Wow 2 videos in 1 day
Some of those leads are mad shapes I've never seen 😂
Cheaper leads😋
Perfection simply done

wonderful explanation i am in the US and terms are difficult to translate
Great video, I've learnt alot from you. Many thanks🎣😎
Im not criticising this video as i think its good but i need to mention the discription of tying a chod and heli rig. Can you tell me why you would use a large split shot on your leader instead of a drop off bead or even a normal large bore bead? You obviously know what youre doing so its mad why you'd use a non-fish friendly rig. Other than that ....nice vids mate.
Hey man, I firstly want to say thank you for asking your question in such a respectful manner. I really appreciate that.
To answer your question: A split shot can be fished in a fish friendly manner, if used correctly. Unfortunately I didn't mention it in the video and I wish I did. I should have said the following: " To fish a split shot in a carp safe manner, squeeze the split shot on to the leader very gently. You want the split shot to stay in position for the cast but that's it. You want the split shot to move if any force is applied to it so that if a fish becomes snagged, it can pull the chod off of the leadfree with minimal effort. DO NOT OVER SQUEEZE THE SPLIT SHOT. If you squeeze the split shot any harder than the bare minimum, the split shot will grip the leader and the rig will no longer be carp friendly."
I use split shots for the following reasons:
They sink better than beads
They are MUCH cheaper than beads
They are easily accessible
They are easy to use.
Why I use them over beads is mainly because the beads are so expensive. I feel like if the Carp companies really cared about Carp Care over profits, they would charge MUCH less for what is essentially tiny injection molded plastic beads.
Multi rig, easiest to tie an can use it for pop ups an bottom baits...
That's a good idea for next year's videos
you have the greatest videos about fishing
Thank you I really appreciate that!
"What you need" is soo funny 😁, did you learn that phrase in Durban?

Hi. Thanks for the information on how to tie the different rigs. Very interesting and informative. Just a quick question. The different dams that are in your guide to carp fishing videos, what are those different dams called. I know you mentioned lonehill dam but i would really like to know those other dams as I would like to try them out and see if I can beat my PB. Your input will be much appreciated. Thanks
The dams are: Bergsig Trout Farm and Specimen Venue, Kwaggahoek dam and Boskop dam
Ok cool thanks so much for the information. I spoke to George at fun fishing today and I’m going to go and buy specimen equipment and then try out your challenge. But anyway thanks for the dams names. Look forward to more videos

At the beginning you give item descriptions. You mention the leader is heavier strength than the mainline. Error?
Great vid, thanks.... can you tell me how to attach the lead to the main line? Thanks!
I'm not sure for which rig you are asking

@@maartinkarpkoning4647 haven't fished there yet either. I hope they leave some reeds for the carp too!
if i turn up to a lake and i have no idea what the bottom is like which rig system would be the safest bet? thanks
Best practice is to cast just a lead out and feel what bottom you going to fishing over. But is I had to pick, the Ronnie rig is the best all rounder
KG man i have to leave this video and google stuf
Don't use split shots for helicopter set ups.
Use a tungsten weight with a bead over it. Or just a pierced rubber bead.
You don't want a carp running around with a length of leader and a rig.
It could get teverd up and die.
Please read the other comments with regards to the split shot where guys have brought up the split shot issue and I have replied extensively and productively. Also if you watch the rig building how to guides on making the individual rigs, they demonstrate how, if used correctly, a splitshot is carp friendly and more cost effective.
@@ItsTippToppFishing it might come off sometimes but depends how hard you press it down.
Most places in the UK even France if they saw u using that would ban u.
Which is what I replied to all of the other guys. If it's used correctly it it's fine.
My audience isbalso South African. We don't have places with rules like that yet. Most fishery owners are more concerned with getting enough anglers through the door and fishery rules are a secondary priority.
@@ItsTippToppFishing i 👍 agree. Split shots are good as compared to tungsten putti. When it get struck and line breaks it slips out of line. Tungsten putti deforms but stays on the line. Cost is again a pro.
Hi need a suggestion ... Should I use use pop up bait in running water river... Or can you please tell what should be my approach for fishing carp in river water
Which bait depends on what the fish want to eat and the bottom you fishing over. My advice for river fishing, is look for the slack water where the carp will spend most of their time.
Hi. Do you give live tutorials or lessons?
I've done one or two online live tutorials. The viewership wasn't that amazing and the video tends to be quite long because I tend to over explain
No need to overengineer carp rigs. There easily caught on basic rigs
2:04 is the very first time I’ve seen a hair rig made from line other than braid. Why is it that the majority of hair rigs use braid? Braid stands out more than mono or fluoro. And although these rigs are simple to make, and are said to be simple, I feel like they require more hardware / components. There’s the stone like looking weight, sleeves on every knot, a bait stopper, sometimes the addition of a method feeder, sleeve on hook, etc... Isn’t there something more simple? I understand you said there is mechanics to a rig, but a carp rig seems very similar to a trout rig, aside from hiding the hook under the bait. I could only assume it’s all for camouflage, but then that goes right back to argument of braid being more visible.
I firstly have to say that I really like the way you think!
Ok so firstly the braid vs mono hair: most rigs use braided hairs because of its flexibility rather than it's visibility. A hair that can get out of the hooks way during the hook up is very important. Most braids are also a dark brown or dark green colour. Mono hair advantages are less visible as well as tangle less because of its rigidity.
"Easy" rigs with SOOO many components: the reason for all of the sleeves are for one purpose, to prevent tangles. Also there are usually more components because of carp safety ( like drop off lead systems)
A simple rig that I would suggest. That is easy to tie and has minimal components is a simple flurocarbon hair rig with a "naked"(No leader) inline lead. So all you would need is your flurocarbon(or clear mono), a hook, swivel, bait stop and an inline lead. (The antitangle sleeve is optional)
@@ItsTippToppFishing thanks for that info. Makes more sense. I've always been the curious type who often tends to think outside of the box. I'm always looking for ways to make things more simple, while getting the same results. I actually decided I'm going to start carp fishing with the rig used in this video link czcams.com/video/4GWgBtjCk9Q/video.html at 6:20. Aside from me wanting to add pack bait in a PVA bag, it's about as simple as I'd like my rig to be, until I decide if I want to continue fishing for carp.
I like to learn to fish all species of fish, but not get caught up with having tons of gear, lures, equipment, etc. Although this may sound a bit weird, I don't buy odd numbered hooks. I tend to stick with even numbers. I feel the difference between a 2 & 3, 4 & 5 is not a significant enough difference for me to get myself caught up in choosing hook size; when it's much easier to decide if I need a 2, 4 or 6.
@@ubreakitirepairit3569 yeah he pretty much has a method feeder rig on. It's a super simple easy way to catch carp. A bit of pack bait and a fake corn on the hair and you can catch many many carp.
It's Tipp Topp Fishing . Line straight through to hook, flake of bead squeezed round shank off hook. Doesn’t get any easier. It will float on surface. If you want to fish bottom, just add a small lead shot 5 cm up from hook. If you have problem with bread staying on just use corn.....rod,reel,loaf of bread/sweet corn and your fishing......you might need a net!!!!.
💡
What main line should I use? I'm confused I always thought I need to have a weaker hook length or rig than my main line is this not the case with carp fishing ?
Depending on my rod and reel set up I use 30lb braid on my big set up, 20lb braid on my medium and 12lb braid on my small set up.
The lighter your line, the further you can cast, and you make your leader and hook link heavier to deal with coming into contact with snags. The thicker materials are more to do with abrasion resistance rather than tensile strength
Chris you are correct in that normal course fishing the main line carries the lead. So the weaker line would break meaning it’s safe. The fish won’t carry around the lead weight. Carp fishing has developed so what you see are safety beads or stops. So example one the Chod it’s a heavier lead core line that what your mainline could be. However if the main line broke off, as the leader is tied onto the mainline with no swivel or link, the safety bead can slide off so the fish only trails the small hook link. With no safety clips or beads then yeah you would naturally go for a thinner line on safety. Further normal fishing the thinner line helps disguise the hook rig. Here again various braids or lines that are still visually hard to see. Just adding on what the expert stated there as there. Lead core protects against snap off when casting and sinking etc but it’s still safe when set up correctly. It’s banned on some lakes as people have fixed it or not used the safety devices outlined here. S
Brilliant video we’re are you original from and we’re you living now wanna get out with you
What kind of rig in running water??
on your chod rig do you put the split shot on the leader above the hook link? if so it makes the rig unsafe as it will stop the hook link sliding up the leader and off the mane line if you get snaped off..
The split shot is above the hook link, but I don't crush the split shot ( which would be unsafe), I squeeze it on which makes it hold similarly to one of those korda beads. Holds for a cast but moves under pressure. Squeezing split shots too hard is a mistake a lot of anglers make. If you squeeze it too hard, it will not only make the rig unsafe but it will damage the material that you are squeezing it onto.
@@ItsTippToppFishing Ok np, thats a good idea as well but you could do with putting that in the vid mate so ppl do not make the mistake of crushing the shot.
@@markmason13 I will do in future vids. Thanks man
Surprised this video does not advocate for circle hook usage given that it claims to be supporting the sporting rather than harvesting angle to carp fishing. Sure the bait fished below the hook is a good measure to take but ultimately the mechanics of the hook point matter most for gut hooks
Thanks for the comment. In response: Generally speaking I do agree that circle hooks are better for catch and release angling. They are particularly good for preditory fish.
For carp fishing, however, you would struggle to catch a carp on a circle hook, because of the anatomy of a carps mouth and how carp feed. They have a suck and blow way of feeding rather than a bite and swallow action like other species. If you used a circle hook for a carp, it would simply suck in the bait and the hook and blow it out again unless you got very lucky. I also wanted to add, that ever since I started using hair rigs (about 13 years), I have never gut hooked a carp. Not one. So I can confidently say that a hair rig is safe to use when fishing for carp specifically.
@@ItsTippToppFishing Good to know re the hair rig, i will admit i have little experience with that setup. I have to disagree regarding circle hooks getting solid hookups: anecdotally, i caught 10 commons within an hour/ hour and a half two days ago on a size 4 barbless circle hook with a small sliding sinker above a swivel near orangeville, ontario canada. Albeit one of the ten was hooked slightly lower on the lip causing some minor lip damage.
@@mc-ws7nv how epic! If you make a vid on circle hook fishing for carp please let me know, I'd love to see and learn how you do it. Your sliding led and a circle makes so much sense! Gives the carp time to make the mistake.
@@ItsTippToppFishing got the idea from thundermist lures on youtube. Believe the video had stealth rig in the title, fished on a semi-loose line with rod tip pointed down, lifting the rod tip when the carp starts running away with the bait. He does the videography better than i could haha
