1995 at 15 years old, was an amazing time in drum and bass and raves and I lived through it all 94-02 every weekend.
Raves are basically dead now everyone listens to gangster rap even rich kids.

This shit is stirring up some major nostalgia for me right now! I was about 15-16 in 1995, when my boy introduced me to raves. I would tell my parents I was going to stay the night at his house, his mom was super cool about us partying. She would take us to the rave and any other checkpoint required (remember that shit?) where they would require bringing a canned food then give you directions to the party. Sometimes even more than one checkpoint. Ah, man...those were the days. Had the time of my life, and will never forget the experience of partying in an abandon warehouse with at most 150 to 300 people.

+Bryon Yarbrough I never had to go to a checkpoint. When I started in Toronto in 1998, there were no checkpoints. But they didn't say where it was going to be until right before the event, and you had to call a phone number and they'd say where it was. It occurred to me that this must have become a legendary thing.

Me and my bro grew up out here in SB. Driving all over SoCal from SB Master doom, Boys and Girls Club & Orange Show, Pomona Fox theatre to all over the LA scene. Curious, Machete, I can go name dropping forever.. Cargo shorts, bass speakers and some BBoy 3000 aka RAW and you my friends now have memories to maintain for a life time.

best thing was, at least I had aaalll the space to dance ! '97 was , for me (well for me as in the d and the b at it's highest), the golden year, and afterwards more and more people, was still ok, but then afterwards it was totally fucked!

L.A. Ray Aww for real! I remember Beat Non Stop off Melrose. Haven't been that way in a while. Is it still there? I picked up a couple of Steve Loria and Ron D Core mix tapes. Those were some of the best days of my life. No responsibilities and so carefree. The world was ours to conquer. I really miss that.
Mikee Duran I agree with you dude. It definitely was so care free. Unfortunately, times have changed. Along with the vibe that Melrose once gave off in the 90's into the early 2000's. After Beat Non Stop closed, the location became Temple of Boom. Also selling pretty much the same stuff as Beat Non Stop, but wasn't quite the same. Workmens closed down. As well as Fat Beats. A lot of the cool stores that supported the scene began closing. Currently, Melrose is all hipster'd out. Leaving people who are new to that section of the street thinking, "it's always been that way." Yet, they have no clue what Melrose was really like in it's heyday.

there was a time in the mid 90's that I would only go to the parties that had RAW on the flyer. I knew that if he was there, it was gonna be a party.
Right!? RAW is one of the only DJs I can think of who consistently played two styles under the same name. Sometimes he'd play Hardcore/Gabber - sometimes Jungle/D&B… This wasn't just early 90s either, he stuck with it for a long time. Total master of the decks… made it look easy.
Bad times I was in year 7 when this shit dropped so I could never go to any parties :(
I'd let you borrow my time machine to go back to those parties, but I dismantled it after "the incident".

Fuckin' '95! Around this time, I was living in LA and I would work temp jobs all week just to make money to party on the weekends. I only went to parties that had R.A.W., APX-1, Machete, or anyone from the Mictlan crew on the flyer. Those were the days.

Jay Riley That's great! I do recognize the name DJ Gabbernaut. Its wild because I am completely straight edge now for about 10 years, Vegetarian and into weights and fitness. I live in La Mirada CA yet still listen to Hardcore and Jump Up Jungle during my workouts.

I either had this tape or another RAW tape, played that thing out. Funny thing is my car's tape player was about 5-10% too fast, so yeah that was fun.
