I would compare it more to driving with the hand brake on, but in either case it's baaaad news

Has anyone has heard Sam Ryder? To me, it sounds like he uses a lot of compression, which is probably a big component of his unique sound. The reactions from "vocal coaches" that I have seen mostly point it out, but also say his technique is excellent. Is his compression healthy?

So, I've found that when I scrunch my face and allow the air through my sinuses that I sing my higher notes better while having more stamina for the note. Is it still wrong? I ask because my larynx moves upwards slightly.

I still have to concentrate on not squeezing. ☹️

Do you have a video that goes more in depth on this? Getting that right balance of compression and support without turning it into tension is a huge struggle for me!!!
