I could listen to that all day! It genuinely feels like another lifetime ago. Really enjoyed this, thank you for Posting! Good to see Ex-NSE MK2's deposed from the Waterloo-Salisbury/Exeter services

Love class 31's. They used to be on the expresses out of Liverpool Street pulling 8/10 coaches. They stormed through Chadwell Heath where me and my mates were train spotting in the 1960's

Those were the days! I used to spot from the old "iron bridge" just up the line, from which you could also see the banana trains coming to the Fyffes warehouse, unloading and going again from Goodmayes Up Yard. Often behind a BTH Class 15, they would use the freight avoiding line as far as Forest Gate.

Great shots of 411 Our Eli.... lovely old tank to drive, and at her best when smokey!

Thanks for this invaluable contribution of this pioneering loco. I have two HO scale models of their most beautiful colour schemes...Trainload Freight and BR Green.

I've always liked the sound and the look of the windshield of the Brush Class 31.... I grew up with them in BR Blue as a wee-lad at Kings Cross back in the day

Ooooh the yellow Stripe at 18:34 (I don't remember seeing that)
Is that a one of a Kind or a rebuild?

Hi Finsbury Park used to put a a band on there Class 31 when it closed they went to Old Oak Common and they continued that’s early mid 1980s so tradition lasted until the 1990s not sure myself ?

good films i remember 31s on the portsmouth -cardiff trains in 70s did a good reliable job,31s have got a unfair reputation for being slow and underpowered but they outlived alot of other motive power because they were more reliable and better built.the best type 2 by along shot, brush built and english electric powered after rengining ,best combination .

Glad you enjoyed , yes I can just about remember the filthy "BR" allocated 31s, 401 and alike . Then along came the 33s on the 89s

The replacement engines fitted were by English Electric, but the class 31 locos were Brush built.
