Hi Guys, love the video's , real life video's dealing with pigs, when we have to release the augers , we use a 4' length of auger to wrap inside the feed auger, thats inside the feed pipe , and you can just pull it to expose the feed line in the pipe.
We have flex augers in our turkey houses. Whenever we take one end loose and it goes back in the tube we ta a section of same size auger and twist it till it catches the auger. We then pull it out until the other auger end comes out the length needed to reattach it to a motor or bearing. After pulling it out we clamp it with grip pliers and remove the short auger. Then reattach and remove pliers and everything slides back in.
WOWZERS! That lil R&R project sure turned out to be a pain in the arse!
I have commercial poultry houses & when the auger slips back into the feedline, we use an old scrap piece of auger to “catch/hook” onto it & pull it back out. I have a scrap piece sitting in every dog house just incase. 😂
thanks for another great video!!!! i know farmers hate to get told anything but you maybe should use safety glasses when you use the angle grinder, please do not get mad at me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As someone that has done this a time our 2 i have made myself a tool. It consist of a 4’ stick of 1” gas pipe and about a foot of model 75 flex auger welded to the end. I also have a t handle i can thread on but doesn’t get used often unless someone stretched the auger with a truck. In which case i need more than 4’. But when i remove a gear box or anchor bearing i just let it go. I don’t have to worry with a cable, hook, or curtain rope tied to it. Just thread the auger in and pull. I also welded a piece of 1/2’’ rod between the flighting towards the back end of my tool. This allows me to retrieve a broken auger from the anchor bearing end with a pull rope attached to the motor end of the auger. rather than pulling it out from both directions and fighting it through the barn. I never have an empty barn to make these repairs in.
@@patbormann8064 what is it you would like to see? I have actually toyed with the idea of making training videos to distribute to our growers and service techs to cut back on service calls. The vast majority of repairs in a modern swine barn only require 1 person and 2 hours. However the animals complicate things and for that reason i try to keep a helper with the repair man. Flex augers can be a nightmare to work with and extremely dangerous if you don’t know what your working with. Most of the time they are under tension however they can be under compression, which is far more dangerous. The first 6 months of a new repair man I personally go on every call that involves an auger issue.
@@jasonsmith5077 - I think videos on basic swine barn maintenance would be great and would develop a decent following. I only have one finishing barn and try to be careful not to break things versus letting them wear out, so these types of repairs are often "first time" and learning experiences. My flex augers are reliable, but common repair time for me is 3-4 hours - and usually in full pens of 250 lb pigs.........
@@patbormann8064 i know the feeling of 250lbs’ers while trying to make repairs. You get very good at standing on one leg and swinging the other behind you. Most augers are very reliable but like anything they do wear out. We have sites that are 15-20 years old and over 300 growers each with a minimum of 8 augers some with 16. A typical week we receive 10 calls on average for auger related issues. Most are simple repairs but occasionally you have broken augers and worn out gear boxes.
Great video Tork and Sawyer
The Joy's of flex auger and hoppers. Pleased it's you and not me.....
The good part is when you have two persons i always have to fix things by myself and thats real time consuming plus a extra hands could help make it so much easyer anyways good fix from the old man ,thanks and greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
Awesome video and that's cool tork and his buddy trade chores..
Find yourself a strong magnet and long enough to reach the bottom of your put and you could pull those tools back out, was tired of people wasting money on the farm I work for by losing tools and then having to go buy new so we bought a magnet and it works.
My favorite part with those augers is when one snaps in thé middle and has to be welded back together
Recently had a issue with our feed lines, one way to get the auger out after it loses its tension is to have a couple foot long piece of auger spin it in so can lap over and have more surface area to pull against the auger that's in the feed tube
Hello great video. Keep them coming.
I should wait until after the video is done to comment, but thanks for the idea on using a cable to hook to the auger to pull it back as long as it stays on.
Flex augers will make working words fly. After your done though the lattes taste better.
I have never seen an Auger that looked like that. More like a spring.
Nice WORK!!!
Put a big funnel on a pvc pipe and have it run into the feeder. Boom no wasted Fred.
Boy I just love watching you Pappy work! Granny90
Dam, you guys are better than typical framers!!
If you have a Harbor freight close to y’all they sell packing blankets really cheap. You can buy a few of those to put down to keep your tools from falling to the gates of pooo
JB Weld and you could have gotten another 5 years out of that. 😊 And get Tork some safety glasses. He wont be a lot less pretty in these videos with one eye.
Saftey Glasses cuz eyes are very hard to replace!!
Think ya could have done something or other to fill that gap in rather than a full replace.
I’ve had duct tape closing a hole on a line for 2 years now
Could you explain triple net lease? Did your friend build barns then lease them to someone who actually has the hog contract?
Only question is,What is wrong with Duct tape?
That's job would be a perfect solution, another decade at
least.
What's the name of your music boys, it really suits your vlog.
Great content.
I would use duck tape lol
❤
Seems like a lot of work. Could you have just patch the leak with some duct tape?
Hey there Tork and Sawyer, I hope you're all well and good!
Nice fix on the feed auger Tork, I can tell this ain't your first rodeo! 👍
I still don't see any tether balls hanging for the pigs to play with, and I know that you're not taking me seriously, but I've been putting my MD in Animal Care Sciences from VPI to good use for nearly 4 decades, so you need to go along with me on this, and I don't think you'll be disappointed, but if you are, send me a bill for the tether balls, and I'll reimburse you, how's that for a money back guarantee?
I hope y'all have a good one!
"Nothing Runs Like A Deere" 🦌👍🇺🇸
Or Squeals Like A Pig 🐽🐖
👍👍👍👍👍
I hate those one piece transition boots. The newer ones are 2 piece. That way you dont have to take both drives off. And yeah ,Tork. Safety glasses should be worn. I'm guilty of same thing from time to time.
What do you get if you cross a dinosaur and a pig? Jurassic pork!
Some JB Weld or epoxy might have gotten you a few more years out of that old one :)
Hello
One out of 14, guess you guys will get really good at replacing them
I would have used a piece of inner tube and a hose clamp and called it a day.
You can substantially increase the working lifespan of auger tubes with duct tape or even a welded on plate. :) Not bad for 11 years in a confinement building, though!
You make me nervous grinding without eye protection.
Please wear safety glasses
Sorry for giving you shix during your mechanic lesson...
Where's the SAFETY GLASSES 🥂 ? This is how you end up with SHAVINGS OFF THE GRINDER IN YOUR EYES ... What's your reason for NOT WEARING THE SAFETY GLASSES ??? Thanks for the mechanic lesson... SAFETY NEXT TIME.
Wear the f#$%ing safety glasses! I'm blind in one eye, believe me you don't want to be.
11 years, you say……you got a lot of motors, transitions, fans, welding on gates coming at you in the next few years. Spend more time fixing and maintenance than animal care……I never minded animal care…..barn care sucks but has to be done
GEEZ…think I’d try some duct tape 🦆🤣😂
get a bigger hammer
Your barn is half-full why don't you put more pigs in your barn

Tork, you should be supervising and the youngun should be doing the grunt work.😉
