    I wonder how it is possible, after such an intense and powerful scene, to invest in a fourth season written in such a dull and insignificant way. It’s a mistery.

    God damn Villanelle has such a deep past and she's such a layered character. My favourite character in any media, any television or any film.

    “You were bad from the beginning” my mother said the same thing to me at age 8 or 9 or maybe younger. She’s so my own mother, my mom used to threaten to take me to an orphanage too when I was a little kid, she just never dropped me off permanently. Jesus. I’m glad I am not a Villianelle type but I have a lot of empathy for her in this scene

    This was one of the best episodes of the series. Huge pivot in Villanelles character development.
    She’s clearly not a psychopath, imo anyway. Just a lot of emotional childhood trauma and lack of healthy coping mechanisms, even if they are on the extreme side.

    • @160p2GHz
      @160p2GHz Před rokem +23

      Yes and it was built up to brilliantly. There are a lot of scenes in the episodes leading up to this where she's asking people things like "do you think i'm inherently like this?" "do you think I can change?" etc. Then this scene was like her going back to point where she thought she lost her humanity and she's trying to reconnect even though she clearly isn't pleased with everything. Psychologically her asking her mom to treat her like a child and clean her face, right after her mom insults her makes so much sense. And then here it's like she's asking the person who knew her before she was an assassin to validate her as human but she basically just says "No, you're inherently evil, you can't get better." Soooo fucked up. Makes me well up every time. And then showing her clearly upset on the train shows she has an emotional response to it. And sparing the two family members who were kind to her or she felt were treated like black sheep like her shows she has empathy. It's just a fraction of a season that manages to show that the murderer is being psychologically abused and was even as a child, and while it might be hard for them to change they are capable of it, and want to. Really well done.

    My Mum did similar things when I was young. She always threatened to leave me in foster care, and one day she actually tried. Left me on the door when I was 9. I walked all the way home and she beat the f out of me for coming back. Then she left me at my Dad’s for a few days, he took me back because he just didn’t want me. He said it wasn’t personal, but it sure felt like it. My relationship with my mother eventually got better, when I started playing nice. I’m 17 now and our relationship is better than ever but I still remember all the crap she did to me.

      I'm sorry for what happened to you, my suggestion for you coming for a total stranger on CZcams is try to build a good relationship with your mom now since you said things are going better. Your mom definitely made terrible mistakes but she's a human being after all and she probably regretted this a lot, give your mother and to your relationship with her another chance because it could become a great and very deep relationship if you can together overcome the misunderstandings and mistakes that have been made in the past. I think it worth a try. By the way I wish you love and happiness in your future !

    This is part of why V is so closed-off from empathy. The moment she truly examined the feelings of another - she would begin considering her own. And THAT would be devastating. So she must avoid empathy, altogether. Without it, she can keep those memories away, by never allowing them to associate with any feelings of internal sorrow over her heartbreaking relationship with her mother. Tears and sorrow displayed publicly are silly to V because they make no difference to the outcome of events. She chooses this rationale over one that examines the relationship between her actions and the emotional effect it takes on those involved, which may result in altering her means of disposal in a way that minimizes emotional damage. This would, no doubt, make anyone a more civilized assassin- except V. If she could suddenly emphasize with others, she would also suddenly have to deal with the fact that her own mother did not love her enough to be together. This, alone, has the power to crush the strongest heart. The rage would be too much and likely overwhelm her into another complete rejection of feelings. The rejection of a child by their own mother is a scar on the heart that spreads when left unattended.
    V simply could not afford to feel. Her survival depended on that.

    The character of Villanelle and the interpretation and acting of Jody Comer are the heart and backbone of the series Killing Eve, so bad that whoever wrote the 4 series didn't understand the importance of the Villanelle character and almost relegated her to a secondary character🤦, It's really a shame when you have gold and diamonds in your hands and you don't know how to do with it.
