    Well done young man, but as a former kiwi sparkie , please be careful what you are doing, especially with 3 phase , get into the habbit of carrying around a small line tester in your pocket , never assume that a line is not live until you test it ..we were in your area 15 days ago but with the Farmer actions we had to detour , otherwise would have called in..all the best Cam & Marie-Laure

      Oh absolutely, as someone who has been shocked more than once, I've learned the hard way to be much more careful. Appreciate the advice! 🙏 - Jack

    I read something interesting, apparently in France, if you buy windows and have them installed, they are cheaper than buying windows and putting them in yourself, because they are taxed differently. 🤔🤔

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance Před 4 měsíci +2

      That's absolutely right, and we almost went that route, except then there's the fee of having them delivered to our home as well, and that made it more expensive again, so we went with picking it up. I feel ok about installing windows now though, at least I don't have to make a new hole in the wall this time!- Jack 🤣

    Hello from Ottawa Canada, I have been watching your channel for a week or so, love catching up and seeing what remarkable things you are doing ! Feeding a Marriage, Feeding 3 children, various farm animals, keeping house and then the reconstruction / DIY ..... Both of you are amazing. I know the videography takes a lot of time, please don't burn out and exhaust yourselves - because I can see from your comments here that you are much loved. Keep that awesome attitude. I enjoy you guys very much

    Another great video. You are the only person I’ve met who actually made electrics interesting😅. Who was your adorable little helper? Was she the same one who wanted you to make sushi😅. So you cook too? Amazing. Becks, you have the greatest laugh😊. Carry on, you are doing terrific!

      Haha so glad you found it interesting! That's our youngest, and yes she was the one demanding Sushi. 😂 My cooking is rare and often disappointing compared to Becs (though sushi is a good treat). She's definitely the chef in our house! I love her laugh too 🥰 - Jack

    2 meters = 1 leg on one meter and 2 legs on the other. Have EDF or Edinis to come in and switch your meter out and start fresh with a new panel. I love your channel. Stay safe.

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance Před 4 měsíci +1

      I thought it might be like that too, but there really is just one phase missing after that point. Those meters aren't the official meters any more though, we've got the new smart meter right where our power comes in. Thanks Mike!

    Nice Jack, good to see how it’s wired, quite a bit different from NZ with the use of flexible conduit and the flush boxes attached to the gib.
    And I agree with one of the previous comments - carry a voltage detector like a Fluke 2AC so you can check for voltage on anything you are working on.

    Hello Everyone! All I can say about electricity ... BE CAREFUL! I know how dangerous it can be. I learned the one time experience from it. My careless landlord left a live wire hanging from the box; being the neat freak that I am, I went to tuck it nearly away and was thrown 2 feet. 🌩 QUESTION: Will you be dismantling those electrical boxes, meters that won't be used or were wrongly installed or will you work with them?

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance Před 4 měsíci

      Ooh definitely, I've been shocked once or twice myself, and it's not something I plan on doing again 😅 We'll be starting fresh, going from the source to the new install, and then eventually get rid of all the old dangerous bits.

  • @gingermonette7455

    Exciting progress! Question-- I thought all plasterboard was supposed to be laid horizontally to give the walls more stability and prevent plaster from cracking? Maybe that is only if the studs are made of wood. Idea--on your other kitchen walls, consider mounting a strip of plugs where your upper cabinets meet the wall. That way they are not seen, there's a plug wherever you need it, and you won't have to cut around plugs when installing a backsplash. It will also be a cinch to add under cabinet lighting.

    • @growinginfrance
      @growinginfrance Před 4 měsíci

      It is definitely exciting! Thanks for the tip about the plugs and lighting, that's a really nice idea! I think the direction you lay it on walls is more about reducing/hiding seams (it affects strength more on ceilings) and with the size of these walls, we'd actually have more seams if we went horizontal.
