1 try is about a dollar and it doesn't guarantee you win so it can get very expensive but it is fun to play and you can get lucky

I like how they programmed the machines to win easy. That's how you make more money, people have more faith that they can win something.
That, and, you know, it's food that's the prize. If they made it hard to win, the food might go bad.

Eeh it depends on how they're set up, more expensive items are unsurprisingly a lot more challenging to win. What's nice about the Japanese crane games is that you can ask attendants to adjust things around for you if you're struggling.
These seem more like vending machines with a game element attached. Although, he did get some pretty good deals on some items.
in portugal the cranes dont have the strength to hold anything you grab with them.

Most claw machines are made to give way under a sertain load ! witch meens even if you grab the product as it comes back up it just slides out of the claws ! Most european machines are manipulated so you hardly ever win !

Played with an anime figures claw machine when I was in South Korea once. The boxes had weights attached to them and I spent 1000 won and I gave up.

If you are having difficulties with crane games in Japan, there’s usually a staff member around just let them know that you’ve tried several times and not won anything and they’ll adjust the crane so your odds improve 😆

I was an exchange student in japan. One day my friends and I went to an arcade and one of them won this game where a tower of this chocolate (I can't remember the name now) was balanced and if you hit a tiny tick mark you could make the tower fall. They then made me take most of it home because I had three younger host brothers. I don't think we ever ate it all.
I love the sounds of his videos, not too loud, not to quiet, the sound of people and i really like how he only takes one bite so not too much mouth sounds what so ever. 😊

It's most likely that the arcades you go to may rent their machines rather than having the machines purchased and owned and only having to pay to run and fill the machines. In fact some arcades here in Australia pay to rent Japanese machines and end up being more expensive to play.

@@SnowCrystal2222 no it's not, you can see that he switches the boxes when they go to the counter. I'm guessing the box in the machine is an empty one, because if they put a real one in there the weight of it would cause the claw to hardly be able to pick up the basket

This video made me really respect and appreciate the employees of this arcade for having to stack up those huge towers any time someone wins and knocks them all down! Some of them were great designs and stacked so tall. It would have to require a steady hand to stack the tallest and most intricate designs in the different games.

But as a Japanese I’d recommend you open your gifts outside or after you get home😅 it’s not against the rules or anything but something we Japanese would consider as “a strange thing a foreigner does”. Only in Japan can you win a full size cake in a claw machine! Good thing half of these look really easy (in theory), because my claw machine game is totally lacking (I learned this the hard way in Akihabara). This looked like a ton of fun, regardless, as well as pretty cheap (kinda).
I have a feeling that vending machine like this was invented by the people who wanted to sell their product but don't want to attend their shop. Like "give me your money and serve yourself buddy. I ain't doing anything for you."

My favorite thing about these crane games is that, unlike literally every other country that has them, even though it might take a minute these are still completely winnable. The balloon games are harder but it's still entirely possible to win a lot. Some of them are stacked so you could win the entire jackpot. Some are stacked to make it more difficult but you could win multiples.
These are difficult but not impossible to win. Which the games in the rest of the world are impossible to win due to flimsy design.
And once again we didn't get to see priceless reactions from the workers who help you to get that piece of cake

Fun fact, they literally rig them so that you lose. The people watch to see how many people win and they loosen the grip when they notice people winning too often.
The claw is controlled algorithmically. The owner can set it to grip harder depending on how much money is in the machine, semi-randomly, etc. Source: was an arcade technician.

These machines have a hidden menu, where the owner can set how much a player pays for one try, how much a prize costs, and how much profit the machine should make. The claw machine will then use tricks like grab without strength, or drop the prize a little too early so it doesn't fall into the chute, to make sure it earns enough profit before giving a prize away.
