So amazing
Really gorgeous sound. I also love the tempo- it's not too fast or too slow.
Absolutely angelic
Hello Jack...yes, Dr. Erb was one of my most influential professors...and I was a student under him in the Glee Club...a great experience for me. He also worked on "The Wakefield Mystery Cycle" presentation which was part of the Speech and Dramatic Arts plays series in the early 1970's. He certainly always encouraged us to try for excellence. He said if we didn't try, it would deprive ourselves of our true potential, and the world of any potential gifts that might result from that effort. Years after I graduated, I watched the 1995 movie "Nixon" and heard a gorgeous arrangement of "Shenandoah played under the end credit crawl. After being moved to seek out the arrangement to purchase...I found out, of course, it was his :) His excellence had transcended the years and brought me such a beautiful gift to hear. What a great man and great friend.
I'm jealous. We sang his beautiful arrangement at Shenandoah Conservatory in the 80s. Always my favorite arrangement
You have described him so well Rick!
I sang this in 1993. I remember it like yesterday.
I sang under James Erb for 4 years as a student at the University of Richmond, Virginia.
That must have been amazing! His version of Shenandoah is my absolute favorite.
