Lauren Walsh, who made some of my favorite art in the Tal’dorei Reborn book, has recently brought a new creation to life: a gelatinous cube adventurer named Woubble. This good lil guy really helped me get through my week, and I think they’d like to meet everyone. You can meet Woubble on Lauren’s Twitter, which also has links to their shop where you can get some Woubble in your life. He also has his own hashtag for fanart.

Matt's personality bleeds through when he puts in stuff like that. I don't attribute that to Character fluff; I attribute it to wanting the party to go in a particular direction or reinforcing a direction they were potentially going to go in.
As far as Gus and Olly are concerned, they are giant blinking arrows of "GO HERE!" And given that Matt had NPC's chatter at each other from himself, that further reinforces the theory.
Using two NPC's to justify some of the party's guesswork also does the same.
      Hardly likable. More manipulative DM.

    • @AshtonMonitor
      @AshtonMonitor Před 2 lety +193

@@devonsmith9519 Hardly. Ashton didn’t trust them, neither did Fearne. Had things gone differently (players withholding more information, for example) the two of them could have become hostile and tried to arrest the party, or listed them as suspects, or put out a bounty on them. Olly and Gus began opening up after the party grew more cooperative with them, compared to Olly’s aggressive questioning and Gus’s skeptical, standoffish behavior at the start.

She has a lot of ability to go nova and use all her sorcerery points in one go, but afterwards it just becomes a cantrip game.

To be fair I feel that this is a constant about many of his NPCs, how he goes 1st person into such a wide range of very different type of characters, and what impresses me all the better is how he "morphs" his body language each time depending on who he is acting as. I wouldn't be surprised he did and does tons of reading and research outside the range of what his domain is because I got that feeling of "real" many times, I think there is a reason why people love a lot of his friendly "NPCs" and rightfully hate those that are made to be hated.
To give some examples (do not read further if you didn't watch campaign 2) :
Marion Lavore : A very charming and welcoming person suffering from agoraphobia (or maybe I am mistaking for something else but, people who cannot stand to go out), and it was not obvious from the very beginning but signs were slowly showing that she lives a very secluded life and that so did her daughter, instead inviting a lot of people at her place, and does not like to go out, and Matt in one of Talks Machina was asked about it and he said it came from him knowing people like that, "beautiful people" according to his words, and taking inspiration from that. People loved her and she was played in a very convincing way.
Another one; Trent Ikithon. Now I am not an expert in psychology so I am not sure which one it is between sociopathy and psychopathy, but he is also brilliantly played as an individual incapable of emphathy, which made him so convincing and so hatable, even more frustrating knowing that hate couldn't reach him, yet as chilling as it may be I do not believe there is reason to worry that Matt can make an excellent impression of such a character other than incredible acting.
Phew, that was long sorry but lots of things to say.

He did a lot of smart thinks, and more or less he was the brain.
In c1 he played a dumm character one of the reason he was more focus on doing fun dumm stuffs.
In c2-c3 he is playing characters that are useful not only in combat.

It's a thing that happens a lot, albeit sometimes in different ways, in TTRPG groups.
I'm a part of a biweekly game where the party's voice of reason isn't the camp-counselor cleric...it's my flat-10 WIS *Kenku barbarian.* And that's only because she has a habit of saying something strangely appropriate that she overheard one of her bounty-hunting mentors say.
And for context on how scary this actually is, said rage-bird has unsubtly implied that she might want to kill one of the party's spouses, albeit because said spouse is a sketchy-as-fuck mafiosa with whom said other party member has an abusive, henpecked relationship.

Also, Travis is not CEO for nothing. He supports everyone else while being a really strong player. A cool thing to notice is how Liam, Sam and Travis has stepped back in this campaign to give more space for Marisha, Taliesin, Ashley and Laura. Not that Laura needs more space, so the detail with making her a servant at party really showed how much she loves to be in front - just like Jester hated healing in the M9 😀I love their dynamic friendship and how it shows in the game. Also, Ashley is AMAZING as Fearne. The perfect chaos agent.
